None of us are kids any more, so we all know about the facts of life. One of the fact is - Life is not peaches and cream every day, so from time to time life is going to get tough.

Personally I believe that is the universe’s way to give us a chance to show what we are made of? So whenever you are facing a challenge, you need to trust that it is in your best interest to face it head on. Have faith that it is within your ability to handle it. Even though you might not have the answer and that is Okay. It is a challenge so; therefore, it is meant for you to figure it out as you go along.

When I started my computer company, the first big deal I sold. I had no money to buy the inventory for the project, and I did not know how to go about doing that project. None the less, I close the deal first. I took all my money including my mortgage to fund the project, I hired sub contractor with the skill to do the job. Come to think of it, I risked my mortgage for deals quite a few times in the beginning in order to get my start.

The great explorer Christopher Columbus; not only did he discover America. Moreover, he also proved the rounded shape of the earth. Christopher Columbus must have faced a lot of challenge and done a lot of figure it out as he was going along.

The world famous Bill Gate who got his big starts because he sold Dos; a product that he did not even have. He had to figure out how he was going get his hands on Dos, so he can fill the biggest order of his life.

These people set off to do things that they have no idea how it is going to be. All they know is the end result they seek. I knew I wanted my business to take off. I have decided to do this computer business and failure was not an option. Christopher Columbus wants to prove that the world is rounded. At the time the longest trip was 30 days in the ocean; his trip would have to be much longer than that. He just got started and figures it out as he goes. Bill Gate knew he wanted that deal with IBM, so he closes the deal first. Then he worries about filling the order.

So, I guess when the going gets tough the tough get going… That is how you will find out “What you are made of?”

If somebody is clear on what they want and know the way to get what they want. How is that they still can’t get what they are after?

Would it be fair to say that most people would like to be 10Lbs liter? Would you agree with me that those people are clear about wanting to loss 10Lbs? If that is the case than why are these people 10Lbs over weight? Is it because they don’t know how to go about losing 10Lbs? Have they not heard about eating better or less and moving their bodies around more? My guess is that everyone knows the basic things to do for weight loss. So what is the real issue?

This post is not about weight loss, this post is about procrastination…

Let me tell you a story about a man name Joey. Joey will be retiring from his job in 3 years. Joey’s problem is that his monthly retirement check will be $300.00 less than his house payment and not to mention other issues he will face with money for food and everything else.

Joey had been working on starting a business on side for a year now, knowing that he need a way to have extra monthly incoming in the future. However, Joey have yet to do anything money making activity for his business. Joey had come to the conclusions that when he is at work he does his work load every day, but when it is time for him to doing his own business work. He would always find something else to do instead, such as cleaning, researching etc.. Then at the end of the day he would say to himself I can do my business prospecting tomorrow. So for the last year, Joey had a very clean house and he read a lot of information on his business topic. Ironically, Joey hates vacuuming yet often he choose vacuum over building his business.  So one day Joey had an epiphany to take on a more immediate goal instead of normally he was look to start to build a business that will paid for his survival in 3 years. This time Joey’s goal is to get his first sell, and then to hire a housekeeper for once and have someone else vacuum for him.

I wish Joey luck. Do you think Joey’s short term goal will work better him this time? Having a smaller short term goal can be helpful to a Procrastinator.

A little boy alone in the baseball field, he tossed the ball up in the air, and said: “I’m the greatest hitter in the world,” Then, he swung at the ball, and missed. “Strike One!” he said.

The boy picked up the ball, tossed it up in the air the second time and said, “I’m the greatest hitter in the world!”  When the ball came down he swung again and missed. “Strike Two!” The boy said to himself.

The boy then paused a moment to examine his bat and ball. He spit on his hands and rubbed them together. He straightened his cap and said once more, “I’m the greatest hitter in the world!” Again he tossed the ball up in the air and swung at it. He missed. “Strike Three!”

“Wow!” he exclaimed… “I’m the greatest pitcher in the world!”

Your attitude determines how circumstances impact your life. The little boy’s circumstances hadn’t changed, but his optimistic attitude prompted him to give an encouraging meaning to see what other things are possible instead.

What difficult time are you going through right now? Can you do something to change it? If you can, don’t wait another day… make the needed changes. If you can’t change the circumstance, can you change your attitude? If you do, you’ll discover that your circumstances don’t have the last word.

The world is setup in a way that if you wish to enjoy its pleasures, you must also endure its pains. Like it or not, you cannot have one without the other.

Success is not measured by what you accomplish. It’s measured by the opposition you encounter and the courage you have in your time of struggle against the odds.

You’ll find most things are difficult before they get to be easy. The greater your obstacles, the more glory it will be in your reward when you finally overcame. So, make your decision on what you want out of life, be prepare to pay the price. Sacrifice is part of the package. The road to success is a like a Toll Road, you have to pay first before you enter.

You might have to find out that you are not the greatest hitter first, before you learn that you are the greatest pitcher.

When things get difficult, stay optimistic and keep going. Don’t give up and you will get your answer soon enough.

Support System

Support System

The road to success has a lot of speed bumps. There will be hard times. There will be times when the risks you take fail. There will be times when the outside world doesn’t believe in you, or tries to hurt you. These are the times when you need someplace safe to come home to.

Your support system is that safe haven.

The key to creating and nurturing a good support system is having good communication skills, and developing good communication skills starts at home. It’s easy to fall into the trap of taking our families for granted. After a hard day we come home tired and just want to relax. We forget to pass on the common courtesies to our family that we’d give to a complete stranger—things like saying “please,” “thank you,” and “how was your day?” You can’t let this happen! The foundation for good communication skills starts at home and it starts with the little things. Treat your family right. That means, be polite and treat your family the way you want to be treated. Think beyond yourself and do what’s best for the family, not necessarily what’s best for you personally at that moment. Work at building your support system at home so you can fall back on it during rough times.

Always remember if you want to be heard, listen.

It’s a common misconception that having good communication skills means being able to speak well. Wrong! Listening is much more important. We have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Whether it’s your spouse, a friend, coworker, client, or competitor, you need to seek to understand before being understood. There are two reasons for this. First of all, people want to be understood. Once they feel you understand them, they will let their guard down and listen to you. Secondly, by listening and understanding you will have a better grasp of how to communicate what you have to say effectively.

In a way, all interactions with people are like negotiations; it’s not a time for you to preach, but rather a time for you to open up a two-way street, to create a dialogue. If you can listen, you can understand, and when you understand the other person, your job is then to communicate clearly what you have to say.

You can create and nurture a great support system by, treating everyone the way you wish to be treated and communicating effectively by find that healthy common ground where everyone can benefits the most.
