Affirmations - Are you using them for self empowerment, and do they work for you?

Late one evening, my 20 year old son came back from visiting some friends and upon walking into the kitchen said," Mom, what do you think about affirmations? Some of the authors, whose books I have read, appear to be changing their thoughts on the use of affirmations?"

Well that question certainly got us talking into the wee hours, and led me to do more reading and reflecting.

I would like to share the clarity I gained.

Affirmations are for you and me the individual, and not for the Universe itself. Affirmations are not to be used as a plea or thought of as a bargaining tool with the Universe.

Affirmations are simply a tool like many others to help us retrain our subconscious mind.

When we start using our chosen affirmations, it is very normal that at first they may not feel completely true. We are not to worry about that. We simply need to say them slowly, over and over again (5 minutes upon awakening and 5 minutes before retiring for the night), to help cleanse our subsconcious of false beliefs, and instead imprint a new and better belief.

N.B. A word of caution: Although it is normal that at first an affirmation may feel untrue and actually feel like a lie until it gains momentum, you will be better served if you can start with smaller steps. In other words, choose an affirmation that is more believable until you can move on to exactly what you want to experience.

Example: Rather than saying, I am abundant( and currently you cannot make your bill payments) try saying something like, "God ( use the label that fits for you) is the source of all of my supply. All of my needs are met in every moment in time and point in space. Every day I am advancing spritually, mentally, financially and in all ways."

Health, success and wealth are all in the mind. Dr. Joseph Murphy teaches this principle in much detail and clearly states that we really need to work much more on our minds than on our current conditions.

No it does not mean, you can sit on the couch all day and simply repeat words. What it means is that you take inspired action, as we are taught here in the BraveHeart community, while using your affirmations to help your personal growth and transformation.

The key to remember is that : Your deeper mind will come to accept as a fact, whatever it is that you repeat to it often enough, in slow convincing tones.

Ideas are imbedded in the subconscious mind with repetition; by having faith and expecting the desired results.

You must believe in the power of your word.

Just like the seeds that are planted in the ground, although you do not see them, they come to bear the plant and fruit... so too the seeds (thoughts) you
plant in your mind will come to bear their fruit.

When we water and fertlize seeds in our garden they grow better and faster. Your mind works the same way. Cultivate the new thoughts you are putting in your head. Give these positive thoughts frequent attention and pull out the negative thoughts.

You must know what you are doing with affirmations (retraining your mind) and why you are using them. For affirmations to work, they are not to be repeated in vain with no conscious thought.

My favourite affirmation from Dr. Joseph Murphy, that I use morning and night to retrain my subconscious is:" I am now writing in my subconscious mind the idea of God's ( again use the term that suits you) wealth. God is the source of all of my supply, and I know that God is the life principle within me and I know that I am alive. All of my needs are met in every moment in time and point in space. God's wealth flows freely, joyously, and ceasessly into my experience and I give thanks for God's riches forever circulating in my experience." Then I go about my day.

At first no matter how often a negative thought pops into your head, counter it with "God (use the term that is right for you) is my instant supply meeting that need right now." Or " God is my instant and everlasting supply and that bill is paid in Divine order."

After a while your thoughts of lack will lose their momentum and your new thoughts will gain speed. It is very important that we be patient with ourselves during the retraining of our mind. Most people start and give up much too quickly, thus confusing their subconscious.

If we keep saying things like "I cannot afford that or I can't buy that." our subconscious mind takes us literally and we block all of our good from coming to us.

Instead saying something like." That beautiful vehicle is for sale. It's a Divine idea and I accept in Divine order through Divine love."

Retraining our subconscious mind for all that is good and beautiful, will set the law of opulence in motion for us.

We need to feed our minds with patterns of thought that give life rather than with patterns of thought that cut off life.

We must not go into retraining our subconscious with struggle and strife. You cannot force your thoughts any more than you can force a plant to grow.

We must learn to calm our body prior to repeating our affirmations so that our mind is more receptive. It is a quiet mind that accomplishes things.

For the sceptic in us, if we think that words repeated over and over do not work, simply step back and think about what you were told as a child. Which words were repeated over and over to you by well meaning adults?

Did you grow up believing that you were capable, worthy, deserving of all that is good? Or, did you grow up believing (and still believe) that you were stupid, non athletic, not capable of much and so on?

Summary:

Decide on what is important to you.

Word affirmations that you can start to use morning and night, to retrain your subconscious.

Repeat your new thought patterns over and over ( 5-10 minutes twice daily).

Have faith this will work for you.

Expect that by retraining your subconscious you will achieve new results.

It is becoming clearer, that in order to manifest our desired life, desired life conditions and even material things, we must continuously work at being a channel for the Life principle.

"Your future is of your own making. For the only law of infinite energy is the law of supply. The “Life Principle” is your principle."
Robert Collier

Being a channel for this Life principle requires that we focus on allowing the Life principle to flow freely, joyously, harmoniously and lovingly through us.

One of the ways we can do this is by rejoicing in other people's success, and in all aspects of their wellness and prosperity.

By wishing other people even more than what they are currently experiencing, you are actually wishing that for yourself.

When we think positively about another, we are actually starting to create the abundance, love and wellness we seek, in our own mind, body and experience.

I have just finished reading The Tao of Pooh, a fabulous little book, full of gems. It speaks of the Uncarved Block. This principle is really about the fact that things "in their original simplicity contain their own natural power, power that is spoiled and lost when this simplicity is changed."

This basic Taoist principle not only applies to things but to people as well.

A person who can keep their mind calm, focused, and committed, uncluttered from too much information, distractions, false beliefs, non serving repetitive thoughts - although not necessarily the glamourus or sexy one, is in fact the stronger one. Because through the calm - one's wisdom and inner guidance can actually bubble up,be heard and accessed.

It means that Tao doesn't force or interfere with things, but lets them work in their own way, to produce results naturally. Then whatever needs to be done is done.
Benjamin Hoff

By being like the Uncarved Block, comes the ability to see the beauty in and enjoy what is natural, simple, plain, and quiet - enjoy the moment. This also allows one to be spontaneous, and go with the flow; be in Flow.

We simply need to believe in the power that's within us, and use it.

The Law of Minimal Effort is another Tao principle that I discovered, while taking time out this summer.

This principle means you do what you need to do without combative, egocentric, hindering type of effort.

As we have all observed at some point while out in nature, water flows over and around rocks/obstacles rather than in a straight line forcing its way through something... this principle for women, means we choose to be in flow, evolving in life from an inner sensitivity to the natural rhythms of things and thus becoming empowered.

Our mistakes in life come from our overloaded and stressed out brains. We tend to separate ourselves from the network of natural laws, by interfering with how things are... by trying too hard, by forcing, and struggling and hence losing our personal power.

"Tao does not do, but nothing is not done."
Tao Te Ching

It is not our quick witted mind that is responsible when things work out. The credit belongs to our intuition, our sixth sense, that inner voice... that senses what is in front of it, and follows what is natural. In other words, putting the square peg into the square hole. No stress. No struggle.

A clever female wants to try and make niftier round pegs that will fit in the square hole. The knowledgeable gal tries to figure out why the round pegs don't fit in the square hole. The inspired woman doesn't think about it. She just does it. When she does do what she does... it can appear like she is not doing much. Yet, everything gets done and more.

When we try too hard to against the current, things don't work out. The best way to get confused, stressed, and frustrated is to let yourself think too much. I know, as I have learned this lesson more than once.:(

Through the ages women have separated themselves from Source, from God, All there is Energy (use the label that works for you)... in other words from the world of natural laws.

Our human mind often tries too hard and it tires itself out. Even those women who are brilliant can become inefficient. The mind ends up going everywhere and not being focused on the right thing - which is being in the moment.

When we paddle with the current of life rather than paddle against the current - things just happen to turn out. They work the way they need to .

We need to trust the Universe to orchestrate things, as we cannot do a better job of it. We should be sensitive to circumstances, listen to our intuition and our inner voice, because that iis the natural way.

"You don't fight force with force - rather you overcome by yielding."

What Have You Done to Improve Your Life?
by Jahiel Yasha Kamhi

I was seated with a group of people when someone said to me:

"What have you done to improve your life?"

I didn't expect that kind of question, so I asked for clarification.

"I mean," he said, "What have you done to study, improve or change your life? Probably, you've studied many years to get your credentials, but how many years have you spent studying your life?"

Fortunately, a friend of mine solved the problem when he declared that today's topic was "How to improve our lives."

This article is actually adapted from a conversation between friends about the topic I mentioned above, with no indication of who said which statement.

The very first question was: "Do you really need to improve your life?" We all agreed with one clear and obvious conclusion: yes, you do need to work to improve your life.

Your whole life is actually a permanent school for you. Only people who pay attention to the quality of life can expect satisfaction. Life is a process of learning not only job skills but also life skills.

To improve your life, you first need to learn who you are. Do you know yourself, or you are just guessing? Knowing yourself is crucial, because everything starts with you. Can you improve yourself if you don't know yourself? If you don't know where you are now, you might be heading in the wrong direction. I hope not!

Do you have a personal goal or a destination as a fixed point to reach in your life? What do you do for life, not just for living?

Write down your answers and read them on a regular basis, checking to see where you have improved. Learn what you have done for your life that particular week and try to get closer to your goals every week. After a couple of months or years, you will see improvements. Having a goal or a fixed destination is the best way to do something about your life.

Goals are important, but you must have more. What about meaning in life? Do you believe that meaning is within you or not? Who is "in charge" of meaning in your life? If you expect someone else to find meaning for you, unfortunately you're on the wrong track!

Can you answer these simple questions:
What's your reason for living?
What do you want from life?
you have a real fascination about life?
Are you living for ... or for ....?

The only one person who can answer these questions is You. To live a full life, you need to know your reason for living. Is your reason for living a healthy and good family life, or is it maybe your professional success?

Think about your reason for living. It will shape your destiny.

If you, like everyone else, think about how to get more money, or how to get a better position on the professional ladder in your work place, this is not a bad thing.

A bad thing is if you don't do anything to improve your spiritual dimension of life (this isn't necessarily religious). Your soul wants to grow and help you to live a life with meaning, reason, goals, and a destination. Spirituality is part of a healthy way of living and you need it, especially when you are looking for any kind of mental support.

A person who applies his entire mind to living is not only a great human being; he is also a rich person. If you know how to apply your mind in everyday life, you will live an intellectually and spiritually rich life. Sometimes, your mental and intellectual potential is unused. You have the power to access that potential: each person's life has purpose and meaning if you know how to discover it.

Have you learned to forgive yourself first,
and then to forgive others? Forgiveness is the key to inner peace, for inner peace is not determined by circumstances.

How "high" or "deep" is your life? You must learn this because your life is your source of wisdom, inspiration and meaning. Your personal inner wisdom is the basis for your knowledge of what is needed in your life, and it will determine your personal growth. Can you reach a higher level of being?

During our friendly conversation, we asked many questions and answered many of them with the sincere intention of bringing more knowledge into our own lives.

We know: there is no single recipe for a joyful and meaningful life; it's the individual's creation.

We all understand and agree with this message:

When we try to change things in life, the same life responds perfectly well. Help yourself to feel good because it's your responsibility to do that. We need to be able to purify our spirit by making changes to our inner state.

Our quality lies in what we are, not in what we do for a living.

Jahiel holds a degree in Medical Biochemistry and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. He is passionate about writing, and conveying positive ideas that help people live life with more passion and purpose. His mission is to promote a good mental and physical health. Jahiel's core message is to inspire and encourage people, to give them hope and help them live their everyday life. Being thankful for what is good in life rather than focusing on the negative is his message. With hope, all things are possible. Yasha can be contacted at jasakamhi@hotmail.com

"Gon Out. BackSon. Bisy. Backson."
from the Tao of Pooh, Benjamin Hoff

Are you a Bisy Backson (Busy, Back Soon)?

"There was a man who disliked seeing his footprints and his shadow. He decided to escape from them, and began to run. But as ran along, more footprints appeared, while his shadow easily kept up with him. Thinking he as going too slowly, he ran faster and faster without stopping, until he finally collapsed from exhaustion and died. If he had stood still there would have been no footprints. If he had rested in the shade his shadow would have disappeared. "

A Bisy Backson is almost compulsively active. Of course, there are different types of Bisy Backson...

For example, the athletic one is very concerned with physical activity. She is preoccupied with getting fit from the outside in instead, of building up from the inside... often confusing work and exercise. And usually works when she plays.

In other words if you want to feel relaxed, and healthy, you can simply watch what a Bisy Backson does and do the opposite.;)

The Bisy Backson is always going somewhere, doing something... going somewhere she has not been, but not really present where she is at right now.

Somehow society has made us believe that there is a wonderful reward waiting for us somewhere and that what we have to do is spend our life working like a mad person to catch up to it.

Somehow the reward is always down the road... ahead of where we are at.

Of course, all of this goes against our natural tendency. The Backson is in fact just too hard on themselves, and in fact too hard on the others as well.

Another characteristic of a Bisy Backson is their obsession with saving time. The problem here is very simple: You cannot save it. You can only invest it wisely or foolishly. The Bisy Backson gal has practically no time at all because she is too busy wasting it by trying to save it. :(

All of this to say, it does not mean that our goals, and aspirations are not important and should not count. In fact our intentions/goals are very important, because they cause us to go through the process.

It is the process that is important ... The process is where the growth and the learning occurs, where the delicious anticipation can be felt... and more importantly it is the process that makes us wise, that gives us joy and brings meaning to our life.

Having fun while going through the process takes away the false beliefs of the Great Reward and of Saving Time.

Your goals have to be in alignment with you, and beneficial to you, in order to have a process that is good for you.

"Everyone is special!" Sometimes it just takes us a long time to recognize our own worth and to empower ourselves.

My learning and experiences have shown me that in order to take control of our lives and accomplish something of value, sooner or later we have to anchor into belief. We need to BELIEVE.

No one has to hand their responsibilities to someone else or sit around and wait for Fate to come knocking at our front door. We simply need to believe that the power lies within; in our own minds, heart and hands.

When we finally acknowledge what is within ourselves, and stop trying to be someone else, things begin to work out.

Playing it safe, not recognizing one's own abilities, and not stretching to even overcome the smallest of risks keeps us away from our own great contributions.

Once we determine what a situation is, what we can do about it, then it is time to utilize whatever we are, whatever we have and find along the way, to accomplish the desired result. Quite often, the resources we need are already there - it is a question of seeing them with a fresh set of eyes, for the first times.

What is already in You and around you that can help propel you forward?

The Importance of Pausing
by Kristina Jansz

Imagine reading a book in which there are no commas or periods. Page after page, all the words run together making it near impossible to decipher the intended meaning.

Imagine listening to a piece of music that doesn't have any rests in it. What you'd experience is a cacophony of meaningless noise.

Imagine getting into a car and driving it from point A to point B. At your start point you press the accelerator to the floor and, without stopping at stop signs or traffic lights, you don't release your foot until you reach point B. This action will cause chaos and destruction to you and those around you.

The commas and periods in written word and the rests in music are what give context and meaning to these forms of expressions. Using the breaks while driving allows you to interact with others respectfully and safely on the road. All of these are examples of Pausing and they create order out of chaos.

In the same way, taking time out to Pause brings meaning to the energy you output in your life.

* Pausing and being fully present in the moment gives deeper meaning to your actions.
* Pausing before reacting to another greatly enhancing meaningful, respectful communication.
* Pausing and turning your attention inwards helps you re-center yourself so that you can hear your truth. It allows you to reconnect with your emotional center of gravity.

Pausing also allows you to press that internal reset button and reconnect with the place within where your mind, body, heart and soul meet. From this point of being centered you can then go out to meet your day, week, challenges.

Now, will it be possible for you to go from living at break-neck speed to being fully present in every single moment, right away? Probably not, however small steps repeated consistently over time generate extraordinary, long lasting change and that's something that is achievable!

So, take time out to Pause as often as you can during the course of a day. Right now it may only be for a few seconds at a time, and that's okay. Make it your goal to become fully present in the moment, for instance while sipping your morning coffee or sitting at a traffic light or speaking with your child. Be in this moment as if nothing else in the Universe exists but this moment.

Ask your senses to shake off their drowsiness and fully experience everything that is happening. Challenge yourself to discover beauty in each of these moments. Dare yourself to find something for which you are truly grateful. In doing so, you will greatly increase the value and meaning of each moment you're living and ultimately the quality of your life.

Kristina Jansz, Life-Skills Trainer, Writer and Speaker works in Barrie, Ontario, Canada and offers Personal Empowerment Programs, Workshops and Talks. For more information visit Kristina Jansz.com.

This past week, my personal development has more specifically focused on the concept of self honoring.

Self honoring is necessary in order to honor your truth, to be your authentic self, and in turn be able to live your purpose and passion... and maximize your potential.

We can honor ourselves in some areas of our life while not doing so in others. The goal is really to move toward a complete integration of self, to drop the masks, accept ourselves fully as we are and be our authentic self at all times.

The first step in honoring your self is getting to know who you are at your core, and to connect with your source. Unless you really do know who you are, what you value, like and therefore want... how can you expect to take actions that are right for you?

How does one get to know oneself? Well, there are many ways of doing so. You can tap into personal growth and transformation books, videos, CDs, seminars and other materials on the topic. You can choose to get coached and mentored starting in a particular area of your life.

Remember there is no wrong way. You simply need to make a decision and get started.

Every once in a while a perfect event comes along that will allow you to connect with yourself and in a short period of time make a large shift. The upcoming BraveHeart Rise event is one of those perfect occasions.

You will have a chance to connect with like minded women, engage in inspiring and enlightening dialogue, expand your horizons, make valuable connections, gain new business ideas and tips, have FUN, laugh, and tap into the best of yourself... and oh so much more.

Attending the Rise event is a perfect way to honor the self. So step into Rise from where ever you are on your life path and let the magic of BraveHeart carry you forward.

Only 4 sleeps and we will meet face to face!!! :-D Be sure to say hello!

Are there times in your life, where you feel you have read the books, followed the strategies, and you have done what the successful have suggested and yet you are not quite where you want to be?

That is normal and it is ok... all part of the process. Just do not be too hard on yourself! ;)

At such times, you need to stay grounded and make sure you are in alignment in body and mind. It is a time to tap into your creativity and ingenuity. You can do this by again connecting to your Essence/Higher self within, and ask some important questions to Essence?

Are there other ways for me to get through this so called wall or obstacle? Am I too close to the wall and therefore cannot see the open door? Can you help me to step back and see the open door?

If we never tap into our creativity and allow the flow of this creativity we may very well keep repeating the same patterns over and over again.

If you are in a place where you keep repeating the same patterns... tell your Essence: "I need to think outside of the box. Help me tune into a different thought pattern." Ask for clarity, for wisdom and the ability to tap into your calmness. "Essence I am open to .... I don't know the answer. Please help. I am open to the creativity to come through. I am open to new ways."

Then do step back and allow Essence time to work with and for you. It could take hours, days, or weeks to receive new intuition, ideas and solutions.

Know that if the situation is serious it usually takes less time to get an answer. Be open to receive it.

Accept what is. Make the best of it. Do not resist what is, otherwise it just hangs around for longer.

Then what will appear to be something out of the blue, perhaps a resource, out of nowhere will come your way, perhaps a "ladder" to make your climb or descent more gentle.

Sometimes before we get our answers there simply needs to be some time for the alignment within us to occur. The annoyance you feel in the waiting actually serves a purpose. But keep your thought focused on a desired result. Keep thinking better feeling thoughts.

In a nutshell:

1. Take a step back.

2. Connect within and ask for help in seeing a better way. Allow your creativity to come through.

3. Think in new ways - let go of the old patterns.

Making this my morning journal entry is perfect as I needed the above reminder today.

Learn to Be Your Own Wizard. :)

One more sleep and I will be on the plane from cool central Canada to warm L. A. I am so looking forward to connecting with you at Rise and feeling the presence of those who are with us in spirit. Know that in one form or another, we are all together Rising.
