This video is an extraordinary effort of Mark Johnson who documented the singing and playing of the song, "Stand By Me" in many cultures around the world from South Africa to the ancient Middle East and even to some remote areas of the Himalayas. I really feel that music is the thread that runs through all of us and "tunes" us together as soul's and beings of Love. En Joy!! Kathy Bibby

I was extremely touched by the memorial service for Michael Jackson yesterday. It is obvious to me that his death will probably have more of a positive impact than his life.

Yes, he was a weirdo to some who only saw what the press, et al, made him out to be. Granted he was eccentric and was even grotesque to some who saw his physical changes as mental illness. But who is really to know? (this is a sincere question on my part)

It was obvious by the service that Michael Jackson's legacy is what he gave to us in terms of entertainment, inspiration and a deeper look into who we are...Love, Peace, and Light..."We Are The World."

I send my prayers to his family and his friends and will commit to letting my light shine!

I recently learned about a gathering that takes place in the high elevation of New Mexico, near St. Cristobal ....it's a gathering of women who annually "Sing in Circle" for 4 days. The link below will take you to the website to learn more.

A friend of mine who went last year said that there was something magical there that somehow the voice turns into the essence of spirit

She also made the comment that the teachers' (listed on the website) voices get attuned to a different level that takes them to that depth of spirit that makes us so special. She believes the environment has a lot to do with it

I knew I wanted to go before but after hearing this, I was there!!

The website's below. If this resonates with you, I'd love to meet you there! But, don't delay, the retreat starts Aug 12 - 16, call the Lama Foundation directly for a reservation.

I can hear our voices now.....((big smile)))

For the past 5 years, 4 gifted musician/vocalists/teachers, all women, have called for a "Singing in Circle" retreat at the LAMA Foundation, high upon the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range just north of Taos, New Mexico.

The teachers are Melanie DeMore, Terry Garthwaite, Kate Munger, and Becky Reardon. The first 3 are from the North Bay Area near SF and Becky hails from Taos. All four have diverse styles. My connection is with Kate Munger who founded the Threshold Choir. This is my first year to attend.

My intention was to go another place that I haven't gone...to sing a cappella in front of others. I was shaky at first but out came my voice and it was a blast! If you sing from your Heart, I think the entire body follows!

The women who attended were from all over the US (there are more abroad) For a total of 5 days we sang by day and by night. Before bed, we would gather up in the adobe and wood dome and sing lullabies by candlelight under the most awesome canopy of stars you can imagine.

One night, I was inspired to sing, "When You Wish Upon a Star" but couldn't remember all the words. A voice from across the room came through the darkness and sang the complete version with the total beautiful operatic voice!! She later recorded it for me.

Each teacher presented us with their music. At times the music would take on a different life of it's own and other times, the teacher was insistent on following them. We even ventured into improvisational theatre, using our voices rather than words to act out a particular theme.

All the music was written by each musician and was based on consciousness raising and/or spiritual concepts.

By the end of the 5 days, we were all in another world for sure. Even the people who served us meals joined in with us and the last night we had them lay on cushions while we surrounded them and sang them lullabies. It was beautiful!

I ended up driving to both LA and then to New Mexico with a friend so after 5 days of being "up in the clouds", we were able to let ourselves down slowly by driving back to the Bay Area through the most enchanting canyons and vistas imaginable. No wonder Georgia O'Keefe loved New Mexico!

We experienced Chaco Canyon (my personal favorite), Ojo Caliente Hot Springs, the wilds of Abiquiu, where Georgia O'Keefe painted, and Arches National Park at sunrise was drop-dead gorgeous! Not to mention the petroglyphs (I feel a tattoo coming on!)

Our last stop was in Elko, Nevada. Did you know that Elko is a Basque community? I didn't. (Lot's of handsome cowboys for sure!)

My total time away was 12 days....it's been a long time since I've pulled a road trip like that and of course, when I returned, my computer decided to take a vacation at the doctor's and various other things began to overwhelm me and so it goes....

I'm glad to be back and am looking forward to seeing many of you at the RISE event!

PS If you would like to see more, check out the Photo Album section of my community. Of course that means you're invited to join us!

I welcome you with open arms and ....

To all my BraveHeart Sisters that love to sing:

I would like to invite you personally to join the One Voice community and to join us on stage at the upcoming RISE event as we formally introduce One Voice choir to the BraveHeart Community. Our purpose is to uplift and inspire…and have a lot of fun!

We’ll start with a really easy song that doesn’t require a lot of range and is easy to learn.

If you’d like to sing with us, or if you would like more information, contact me right away by leaving a comment here on my blog or sending me a message through your message center. I’ll send you more details right away.

P.S. Feel free to share this post with others in the BraveHeart Community that you feel might appreciate the opportunity to sing.

“The years on a road so narrow and long
Taught me to listen to life’s sacred song
Can’t you hear it?” ~ Michael Bernard Beckwith

I know that some of you will remember Peter, Paul and Mary

I saw them perform a few times and was impressed that they managed to remain friends for so many years. They were one of the first progressive folk groups to jump into the limelight prior to the Beatles and were a major influence on many within that genre, including me.

Mary Travers passed away yesterday

"With its warp speed whoosh, the futuristic technology and message of peace in Star Trek have deeply influenced modern culture since the first appearance of this iconic vision over 40 years ago. The phenomena’s unique aural landscapes came from the electronic imagination of Alan Howarth, who created many memorable sound effects for the first six Star Trek movies. In the meantime, the film composer/sound designer has continued his own trek into the world of sonic space. Based on his research at the Great Pyramid of Egypt and its Mayan equivalents, Howarth has made startling discoveries about the role of sound and its profound implications in our lives.

I received word from Kate Munger, the leader of Threshold Choir, that
the song that One Voice Choir performed in LA at the Rise was written by Faya Ora Rose Toure from Selma Alabama.

With gratitude and love for Faya Ora Rose Toure.

I do think we added a special BraveHeart touch to the pieceB-)
