Ethan Bortnick is barely seven years old but he's already making waves as a musical wunderkind.

Easter is a blessed time for the faithful to celebrate the life, death and resurrection of the Savior... and a magical time for children to enjoy marshmallow chicks , jellybean-filled Easter eggs and the Easter Bunny.

I have a favorite Easter story from when my children were young. I would give them undeniable proof the Easter bunny came to visit while they were asleep.

After they were in bed I would make stencils in the shape of a giant bunny foot. Then make a path with the stencils from the front door to their Easter baskets, dusting baking powder on each footprint.

They awakened with delight to see the footprints that led to their special gifts from the Easter bunny. My son had the most vivid imagination and was sure that his stepping in the magical bunny dust made him able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. My husband and I thought it was the sugar from his candy but we weren't about to burst his bubble.

Have a blessed Easter

Very good friends of mine have an interesting and intelligent teenage son, who we will call "J" for the time being.

"J" has two passions. One is to play video games the other, is the exact opposite, he loves to write poetry.

I have his permission to post one of his poems with the intention to get your honest feedback.

I know we have a lot of poetry writers out there, so feel free to critique. The not so savvy poetry person's comments are also welcome!

"J" and I will be awaiting your remarks.

Enjoy!

Yes We Can

A picture never shown is never utilized

A picture defines an image

An image defines a voice

A voice never heard is never followed

Our voices are heard, but they never lead

Our voices made the decision

The Voice made our decision

The decision was made because of an image, not a vision

There comes a time in everyone's life when we are faced with taking off our training wheels. When we need to embrace change and move from the baby bike right to the big girl bike.

Taking the risk of change can be unsettling and sometimes scary but if we support change and don't resist it, the outcome can be more than we had hoped for.

Is there something in your life right now that you are resisting?

Go back a few years and call up the memory of the first time you rode on your bicycle minus the training wheels.

Was it scary?....but once you started to pedal and picked up a little speed, did you feel a sense of accomplishment and sheer delight?
Was it worth the risk? Even if you fell a few times and scraped your knee eventually you were riding on your own.

Realize your dreams and celebrate change...it can be exhilarating!

One thing I have to say about the journey of life is that no matter how old we become there is always something new to be learned.

That is of course if we are willing!

What do you think about perfectionism... is it a disease? I welcome your thoughts on this topic.

This little guy named Jace is only 2 years old. His memory is absolutely incredible. Watch and enjoy this display of a child that clearly has been encouraged to expand his mental capabilities.

Wouldn't you agree that it pays to spend quality time with our kids?

As a parent of grown and on their own kids, when those ever so sweet occasions appear of knowing that your actions speak louder than words, it makes your heart feel good to know you have served them well.

For example my daughter had been given some news of a past love in her life that shook her to the core. She called me tearfully sharing the details. I have learned to jump right into their pool with them and swim but only for a short time.

I was about to take the next step which is to find the lesson learned and to be grateful for it. Before I had the chance to go there. She pulled herself together and announced to me that she was very grateful for having known this guy because he was the catalyst to the wonderful friends and lifestyle that she is living now.

Like I said it makes my heart feel good.....:-x

When I asked my daughter how her act of kindness made her feel...her reply to me was ... "I can't stop smiling"

This is a story about my amazing daughter and BraveHeart Woman, Alex.

For the last month she has been upset over the fact that a friend of hers lost all of his possessions and suddenly he and his dog were homeless as a result of a house fire. Unfortunately he doesn't have any family members to assist him.

She had been trying to come up with ways to raise some money to help him out but due to her heavy work schedule, the lack of time was a factor keeping her from getting a fund raiser together.

Last week she had an unexpected income that landed at her doorstep. Like for many others, this extra cash would have come in handy, instead she decided her friend could use the money to find a place to live and get back on his feet.

Today she invited him to lunch and presented him with her heartfelt gift. Because of this gesture he and his dog will be in a warm home celebrating Christmas together.

I could feel the radiance of her beautiful smile as she was telling me her story over the phone.

Right now I am deeply grateful to be Alex's Mom

For generations parents and kids from Iceland have been on a mission of mercy by helping these baby birds, known as 'Pufflings', survive.

It is inspiring to see these Moms and Dads instilling the values of responsibility in their kids. Teaching them that doing small things will make big differences.
