“Metaphysics is a volatile word. It provides the spark for many flames. The flame of anger for those who imagine that it attacks their beliefs. The flame of excitement for those embarking on the journey toward self-knowledge. The flame of distraction for those who use it as a badge to mark them as different and somehow special. Metaphysics has been used to denote poetry that has likewise been described as “highly intellectual imagery”. It has been used as a derogatory term. Yet, it is none of those things. The word itself simply means beyond [meta] the physical or external world [physics]. To assume its meaning without an understanding of the context in which it is used is a grave injustice. To react to it as a dogma is likewise in error. Metaphysics in the context of the Metaphysical Minute is not a dogma. It is an approach to enlightenment or self-knowledge that reaches beyond the idea that it is what we do that is important. Rather it is who we are in the quietness of our minds. It is an approach that searches always for the path that creates healing within one’s soul. It is an approach that seeks to shift the flow of energy from negative views of the world. It seeks to find solutions that serve all. It is an approach that accepts that all souls have an expression that is appropriate for them and honors their right to choose their path. Metaphysics cannot be pigeon-holed as a set ideology. It does not exist in that form. It is a fluid and wondrous approach that allows you and me to explore the same waters without prejudice or rules and receive from them the substance we need for our individual spiritual growth. Like the ocean, it is forever changing and forever constant. Universal laws always apply, but it is our use of them that changes. It is our use of them that reflects our spiritual growth. Unless we go beyond the physical to find the intimate connection that exists between our state of being and that which we call God, Source, Allah, or simply Creator, we cannot grow in spirit.” *************************************** ********************* This book of essays with journal pages is available through my web site.

“The universe constantly and obediently answers to our conceptions.” – Henry David Thoreau The question arises – just what are you asking for? Are you asking for things or are you asking for understanding? Do you accept that as your understanding grows, so does your consciousness, and that the nature of what you see as possibilities for your life experiences expands? Do you believe that there are possibilities for you that you can’t see at this moment? Do you believe that it is only through examining the knowledge you have acquired about yourself and life that your Truth emerges for you? Are you willing to access the love, courage, and wisdom that resides within you so that you can see who you really are and all that you are capable of expressing? Doing this changes your conceptions of who you are and what you desire, as well as how you approach bringing it into expression. Could something as simple as breaking tradition change your life? Well, I have to admit that something like having chili on Thanksgiving instead of turkey probably won't have an immediate impact on your life; however, it could certainly whet your appetite for the freedom of making your own choices about what you want to do in your life. All too often we do what everyone else expects of us despite having a strong desire to do something else. We go to our parents' house for Christmas when what we really want is to have a nice romantic Christmas alone with our significant other for once. We keep participating in some activity that we've lost our passion for because others expect us to...when all along we just want to experience the freedom to do what would nurture us. So, why does something like eating chili on Thanksgiving instead of turkey matter? It matters if you are consciously doing it to break loose from the hold that others' expectations have on you. Are you ready to take the chance of upsetting the apple cart (and all that goes with it!) in order to make choices for yourself? Even if you decide to follow-through on others' expectations, but you have consciously and honestly made the decision that you enjoy doing whatever it is—that it gives you joy—then you have made an important shift that contributes to your growth. In this journey of life, it is important as I say in Metaphysical Minute to make sure when life comes calling that you consume life rather than letting it consume you. When you are ruled by what others expect from you, you are letting life consume you. You cannot grow spiritually if you continue to do this. No matter what your choices, the driving force behind them cannot be anything that feels "one-down." So, whet your appetite for freedom and make a move today in some area of your life to consume life by taking back your power. All the best on your quest! I had an experience the other day that was uplifting. I was sitting in a restaurant when I saw a car back into another car. On impulse, I wrote down the license plate number. When I realized they were going to drive off, I gave the license # to the waitress in case they could discover the owner of the car that was struck. In a few minutes, a man came to my table. He thanked me and asked if I would give him my name and phone number. Later that night, his wife called. She was so grateful—not so much for the sake of the car because there was no obvious damage—she was grateful for another reason. She said I had restored her faith in people because she didn't think anyone cared enough anymore to take the time to do what I did or get involved. She was all choked up. It took so little on my part, but look what a difference it made in her life! So, when you go out today, think about the little things. Open a door for someone, smile at others. You never know—it might be the one act that helps them change their attitude about life. All the best on your quest! Dannye Williamsen MindSlap! 2x4 Therapy for the 21st Century

Guest Blogger: My husband, John Williamsen... For many years, I wasn't ready to admit that a visit home for the holidays traumatized me so badly that even after returning home, I was in a dark mood for days and sometimes weeks. I often justified my state of mind by blaming it on the long drive home or the pressure of catching up at work. But then I heard something from Ed Rabel that opened my ...

Yes, Virginia, there is a system in place that you cannot see that has brought to you all the things you've experienced in your life. That system is not controlled by others. It is controlled by you because it is your creative birthright. Those who tell you otherwise are wrong. They have been affected by the belief that they are so small that nothing they do could possibly impact the Universe. [continued]
