WHERE IN THE WORLD IS DR. SUGAR? You would think your community doctor would be smart enough to work this system - - well I thought I had set up medical inspiration blogs to be released each day while I was away but a computer geek I am not - - haha - - I hope cyberspace is enjoying their dose of medical inspiration for the last week.! ☺ I hope all is well for all of my amazing Braveheart women. Let me bring you up to date on where I have been. For my birthday, my husband took me to Phoenix Arizona so we could have dinner at my absolute favorite restaurant called the PINK PEPPER – it is a Thai restaurant and the owner is absolutely the best at customer service. Whenever we get to Phoenix we always go to the Pink Pepper. While in Phoenix I had a morning at the spa that included the most wonderful facial ever as well as a full massage and a pedicure. After leaving the spa, I grabbed lunch at a very exclusive sushi restaurant called RA on Mill Ave in downtown Tempe – excellent… It was an incredible morning. We then spent 3 full days at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Lucas Oil Nationals. It was 3 days of the hottest & fastest cars in the USA racing ¼ mile down the track. We met most of the drivers and the kids got autographs and took pictures. They had a great time. I also had the pleasure of meeting Charlotte Lucas – the woman who owns Lucas Oil and also owns the Indianapolis Colts... oh yes and in addition to having a multicar team that drag races in many different classes , she also occasionally gets behind the wheel… - wow- talk about a BraveHeart Woman. She is truly amazing. Well that is where I have been – I returned home to a full clinic and a very busy Urgent Care – with flu season well underway we are seeing over a 100 people a day – many very sick. My work day that usually last 13-14 hours has bumped up to well over 15 hours a day. Medical Inspiration blogs soon but I have some exciting stuff to share tomorrow – so keep an eye out. With Love Wellness & Compassion Dr. Sugar

BLOG Where in the World is Dr. Sugar part 2 San Fransisco OK - I know I promised exciting news a couple days ago - and here it is. I have spent the last weekend in San Fransisco at Dr. John Gray's private ranch at a wellness retreat. I made a commitment to myself decades ago to be a LIFELONG LEARNER – this is truly one of the BEST COMMITMENTS YOU CAN MAKE TO YOURSELF. I find that at least 15 minutes DAILY spent reading or learning - over a LIFETIME is priceless. My MOM used to tell me to get my education. She would say that... "you can have money and things and these can be taken away or lost but that your education is something that is yours forever." I have never forgotten and will be forever grateful to my mom for this wonderful LIFE LESSON. As a part of this commitment, I have come to absolutely love personal development and I take every opportunity to learn from those who have gone before me in this journey. So about 2 years ago, I heard John speak at a great event in Aspen, Colorado and decided to learn more from him - - as part of this I got invited to spend a weekend at his ranch - - but had been unable to go until now. So I just had the opportunity to spend 4 days in Northern California with John Gray. Now mind you, this was a personal adventure that I went to with the love of my life, my wonderful husband of 16 years. I figured that after almost 20 years together we were ready to take our romantic life to the next level. - - - so who better to learn from than the Men are from Mars Women are from Venus Master.? So now you know my intention for going to the private event. Well in the past 2 years the event has changed a little … we got to SF on Thursday and had a salad for lunch before checking in to the event. We were then informed that John was doing a cleansing and it was easier and more fun for him to do this if his friends were also doing it with him ... so this was to be a CLEANSING event ... and that we would not be able to EAT again until Sunday. Yes ladies, that is correct NO FOOD for 72 hours. I am proud to say that Rick and I completed our first FAST this past weekend. Now my husband goes along with almost everything I ask of him but if you could have seen the look on his face when he heard this - - mmmmm - - so much for taking the relationship to the next level.... haha K- that is enough to ponder for now - will share more later To Your Total Wellness, Dr. Sugar

Hello - my BraveHeart Sisters! I have put in over 90 hours at my busy medical practice in the past week. Of course - doing my best to fit in 3 amazing kids, a great husband, and a busy family business into this as well and that left very little time for blogging this week - Seems as though it may not slow down this year - - historically we get a break in the clinic during late Spring and Summer but we are still quite busy. Now there is so much activity with the outbreak of Swine Flu... very concerning. I just wanted to say Hello and let you know that I wasn't lost Love to you all, Dr. Sugar

Lana - I got such a laugh from your experiences that I must have attracted some of that electrical malfunction to myself.... but the cool thing is what I attracted NEXT...- As you all know (if you have been following my blogs for the last few days), I am in Los Angeles - came to meet and be hugged by AMMA. I am staying in one of the airport hotels near LAX. Today after conducting a little business, I took Mariah to the LA BREA Tar Pits. I told her we could go anywhere she wanted to go and she said she wanted to "See Some Bones" so we went and saw lots of bones. Then we went over to the Farmers Market for dinner and a relaxing evening. I love that place! Finally got back to the room ready to lie down and get some rest for a big day tomorrow and the television will not turn on. Worked fine this morning... now I don't watch television - so I could care less if the thing works or not right - but Mariah, on the other hand really required cartoons - so I called the front desk who sent maintenance up to check it out - result - the tv had suddenly broke and could not be fixed - said they would bring another one up - 20 minutes later - manager calls - there are no extra tv's in the hotel - really? Manager says - "Doctor - you are a preferred guest - would you mind if we moved you to a suite so you could have a working television for the rest of your stay" - SMILE - a suite - - "no I wouldn't mind at all - sure I would move - no problem and thank you so much!" Love It! Big Smile! Someone is definitely getting a hug for this one! Are you participating in my HUGGING EXPERIMENT? To Your Total Wellness, Dr. Sugar Your own Community Doctor- Isn’t that Sweet!!

Everyone in the World should be able to sleep without Fear, at least for one Night... Everyone should be able to Eat to his Fill at least for one Day... There should be at least One Day when hospitals see no one admitted due to violence... By doing selfless service for at least one day, everyone should help the poor and needy... It is AMMA's prayer that at least this small dream be realized. Mata Amritanandamayi Devi- "Saint Amma" - Embracing The World. DARSHAN with AMMA I was very blessed to receive a Hug from AMMA this evening as she visits the United States. My six year old daughter Mariah and I received the most Amazing Embrace - full of Love and Compassion. What a wonderful memory. I am filled with Gratitude for the opportunity to be in her presence! The experience was almost indescribable --- first of all the room was filled with such a presence of Peace and it was so easy to tap into this Incredibly High Vibration - There was time for Meditation and then the Darshan - where individual embraces were given by AMMA. It was such an amazing experience - - this one is definitely going into Cellular Memory on many levels. So for any of you who are not familiar with who AMMA is, I copy and pasted a bit of information from her website below - but in a nutshell - She is this Amazing woman from India - A Saint - Who goes all over the world spreading her message of Service - and HUGGING - She hugs millions and millions of people and in so doing is Raising the Consciousness and Vibration of Humanity. How cool is that! So bless yourself and someone else and give away lots of hugs today! Raise the Vibration! Love to You All - my BraveHeart Sisters. Have a great day. To Your Total Wellness! With Love, Wellness and Compassion, Dr. Sugar Would you like to join your Community Doctor? Who is Amma? Learn more at www.amma.org From her website: Meeting Amma- Darshan The Sanskrit term darshan means, "vision", and it is used to describe the meeting with a holy person, especially a Self Realized master. Amma's darshan in unique. As the embodiment of supreme motherhood, she welcomes every person who comes to her, listens to his or her problems, offers advice and guidance, and brings reassurance to a troubled heart. Over time, Amma's popularity has risen to the point where in India she has been known to individually hug over 50,000 people in one day, sitting sometimes for over 20 hours. Amma travels all around the world to receive all her children around the globe. Timothy Conway, Ph.D., author of the book Women of Power and Grace, describes Amma as "one of the most glorious lights to appear in the history of religion. Just her stamina - embracing these millions of people one by one, day after day, without a break, all over the world-is some kind of divine gift. No mere human resources could accomplish this." As Judith Cornell, an internationally acclaimed speaker, and an award winning writer, in her book, "Amma Healing the Heart of the World", says, "for eleven years, I had simply perceived Amma, as a sweet "Hugging Saint." As my limited vision expanded, it was awesome to discover that Amma was one of India's most illustrious sages. She heals on a massive scale - Far beyond that of any saint or healer, I had ever known or read about." One of Amma's senior disciples says, "Mother is an extraordinary saint, in the number of people she intentionally instills spirituality into - even to extent of hugging every single person who comes to her. Basically, every one is potentially what Mother is. Mother's presence is invoking that reality (of divinity) within that person."

Hello BraveHeart Sisters - what an amazing visit I am having in Los Angeles! I am filled with gratitude to be backstage on an amazing set in Hollywood - watching all the behind the scenes action that goes on. You'll never guess which set I am on.... it is a secret - but I'll give you a hint - you are all going to get to see what I am seeing very soon - The shows that are being filmed are SO incredible - you absolutely have to watch them - all of them - they are so so so good So we just had the biggest laugh with one of Ellie's co-hosts CLAUDIA JORDAN. She shared that as a child her family was not a big hugging family and therefore she wasn't really comfortable giving nor receiving hugs. I laughed and shared with her the prescription I just gave out to all my BraveHeart Sisters - .... if you missed the blog click here and read it because it is something I sincerely hope you are all participating in. So I explained the reason for the experiment and Claudia said that despite her discomfort, she would give it a try. Now that is a BraveHeart Woman! So with 30 hours down - I am anxiously awaiting your results. How are the hugs going? Go to my community and lets all share what results you are getting with the Community Doctors recommendations. Love to all my BraveHeart Sisters! Ellie and the co-hosts and guests on the show send their love! Are you participating in my HUGGING EXPERIMENT? What an inspiring day today in our BraveHeart Women Community.! This evening as I was preparing for one of my conference calls, we got a much needed rain - - actually it was more of a down pour. It was only about 30 minutes prior to the call starting - my girls were outside under the porch staring at the rain - - then Mariah (7) got an umbrella and started walking around in the driveway. Of course Malaya (2) had to follow her big sister and before I knew what was happening, I looked up from my laptop and saw them both out in the driveway in the rain - in their SOCKS. I went to the door and said - - "Girls, could you at least take your socks off.!" So they did and threw the dripping socks to me. My first thought was... "I really don't have time for this... I have to prepare for my conference call..." But then remembered a time when I was about 15 and my best friend and I were in a rain storm - - it was the middle of summer - warm - and pouring rain. We took our shoes off and went out into the street and danced in circles - - and laughed and had the best time. Oh what the heck - lighten up - it doesn't rain that often in New Mexico ... better take an opportunity to make a memory. So I kicked off my shoes and said "Come on Girls - - lets go find some BIG puddles!" We laughed and jumped and ran and danced and just as we were talking about how WARM the water puddles were, the sky opened up and absolutely dumped on us. Mariah and I got the giggles even though Malaya didn't think getting soaking wet was all that fun. "Hold you - mommy" Well - needless to say - it was fun, we had a great laugh and I got inside just in time to dry my feet off and get on an amazing call with my BraveHeart Sisters. I've had the great fortune to be spending the last few days at my soul-sister Ellie Drake's home in California. And I just have to share a little of the behind the scenes information about our upcoming LIVE event called RISE which is taking place October 2nd and 3rd in Los Angeles, California.... We had the producer of RISE over the night before last to mastermind about the event.... and the evening was so inspiring. I have to tell you my sisters - - that this event is going to be nothing short of spectacular. I was so impressed with the quality and extent of speakers and celebrities who are confirming their attendance at our event! I literally had to pick my jaw up off the floor a couple of times when I was hearing about all the exciting stuff that is being planned... This is an event that you are going to want to come back to year after year after year.... and I just have to tell you I am so sincerely impressed with Ellie's generosity.... for her to have the low low discounted prices on this event is to me not just incredible but actually UNBELIEVABLE. Ellie really is a woman who walks the walk. She is bending over backwards to make sure that all of our BraveHeart Sisters can be at the Event so if you haven't yet registered.... what are you waiting for.... take ACTION now before the event is SOLD OUT! Where do you see yourself six months from now... a year from now... Are you ready to take your life to the next level? I know you are and I know that RISE is going to be a way for all of us to SEE beyond our current circumstances and really tap into our Female Financial Prosperity Hormone and feel that True BraveHeart sisterhood. Wild horses couldn't keep me away from this event... because I know the power that will come to all those in attendance! I am SO looking forward to seeing you at RISE and anxiously awaiting meeting each and everyone of you with a huge OXYTOCIN HUG! With Love, Wellness & Compassion, Dr. Sugar I'll see you at RISE very soon my BraveHeart Sister -

Our family was very blessed to be able to spend our Thanksgiving holiday on a cruise in the Caribbean. We flew to Miami, Florida and boarded a ship bound for the Western Caribbean. Our first stop was Honduras where my husband and I took our son SNuba diving. I am an avid SCuba Diver and love going down almost more than anything so it was fun to take my son on an underwater adventure. I took him on his first SNuba dive about 3 years ago when he was eight and he did ok but this time he was fabulous and was able to truly enjoy all the sights of the reef. Mariah (aka Island Girl) stayed on the beach and got her hair braided into about 50 tiny braids and Malaya hung out with the monkeys. Our next stop was Belize. Here we took both Mitchell & Mariah to the “Lost World Cave” which was in a most beautiful and lush Rain Forest. Once here we went Zip-Lining above the canopies on 5 different zip lines and then Rappelled down two Canyon walls. The day was breathtakingly Beautiful, absolutely Adventurous, Exciting, Adrenaline producing (sorry Ellie) and super fun. Well here is where my saga begins. You see I didn’t intend to write this blog about my vacation (although it was a wonderful time) my blog series will start here with the critical error I made. While on a zip line and careening at a high rate of speed towards a tree that looked very hard – the guide instructed me to reach overhead and squeeze the line to slow my speed. Having never done anything like this before, I squeezed very tightly – as I did this, my entire body came to an almost screeching halt as my arm/shoulder was pulled violently backwards. At first all I felt was shock and actually very little pain and finished the day without incident. The following day we docked in Costa Maya, Mexico. I spent the day on a boat in the ocean doing two deep scuba dives. My husband and mother-in-law rented a dune buggy and toodled around the beach with the kids. I saw some amazing underwater life including moray eels, poisonous lion fish, giant lobster, barracuda, manta rays, turtles, and of course beautiful coral reefs and boo-coos of colorful fish. It was a beautiful day, which ended back on the ship with a trip to the spa with my mother-in-law for a facial, scrub & massage. The next day was a Sea day, which was spent doing yoga, hanging out at the pool with the kids, taking a pilates class, and I went to an art auction. The night ended with a trip to the disco where we danced the night away…. well actually to be truthful…. I went out dancing every night but you all knew that right? Haha So that is the good part of the story - - here is where the story takes a turn…. About 4am I awake with a terrible pain in my left arm. I get up out of bed and am shocked at how bad my arm hurts. We are talking almost as bad as child birth here…. Bad pain….. My first thought as a doctor is ...."excruciating PAIN…. left arm - - SH#$% surely I am not having a heart attack….am I?"... I am thinking call 911 - this hurts like a m!@#$!! - - and then reality.... wait I am on a ship in the middle of the ocean - there is no doctor - - - there is no 911 - - there is nothing... except me and I think I am about to pass out from the pain! I am Doctor Sugar and I’ll be back with more of this exciting story real soon. If you missed the beginning of this exciting story click here for part 1.... So here I am in the middle of the ocean – in the middle of the night and when I say my left arm hurt – my friend – I mean to tell you it really really hurt. I felt sweaty and short of breath and a little nauseous. I thought it was possible that I would actually pass out from the pain. And generally speaking I am pretty good with pain. There was a time in my life when my motto was ... "if you're not bleeding you're not playing hard enough"... yeah that was a long time ago but you get the idea. Now if I was anywhere near civilization at this point I would have been waking my husband up and saying “get me to the emergency room something is seriously wrong here!” But civilization was not near and neither was any form of help so I took 10 vagus breaths and began giving myself a quick little physical exam. Ok left arm pain - - does my chest actually hurt – NO – good then I am probably not having a heart attack…. But just in case I am going to take a couple of aspirin. Pulse - - little fast but strong and steady - -ok good aorta must be in one piece. Left arm mostly hurts in the shoulder but the pain is shooting all the way down into my elbow and then down into my little pinkie - - does my arm move ok – YES – I have full range of motion at the shoulder joint – good no rotator cuff tear. Neck - - feels pretty ok – can move it in all directions – that doesn’t seem to affect the pain in my shoulder - - so I guess my cervical spine is ok - - thank goodness. Unfortunately, my thumb and first two fingers have now gone completely numb and my arm doesn’t have a whole lot of strength. Hmmmm s o what the heck is causing this pain? Why oh Why does it hurt so D!@#$! much and what can I do about it? I like to ask people “How Old Would You Be if You Didn’t Know How Old You Were?” For me I would be somewhere between 26 and 28. Full of life – Working Hard, Playing Hard - - Having Fun and Loving Life - - - You can sleep when you die…. That really is me in a nutshell. Suddenly in a flash this 26 year old was shocked by the reality that my body isn’t really 26 anymore and believe me I did NOT like this reality. So I lay back down and suffered until morning at which time I told my husband I was dying. He laughed and said – “come on get in the shower – lets go see the Bahamas.” So I got up and got in the shower and the hot water did help a little. Other than the fact that there was absolutely no comfortable position I could get in, I was able to get dressed and get off the ship. As soon as we hit shore - -there was a massage table set up on the beach offering BEACH MASSAGE - - and my husband said - - “Babe, why don’t you try that - - maybe that will help your arm”…. Great Idea So.... Day 1 Therapy 1 BEACH MASSAGE Price: $75.00 Time: 25 minutes Results:Pain 9/10 at beginning of massage Pain 7/10 at end of massage Main benefit: at this point I realized that all this pain was coming from MUSCLE SPASM in multiple muscles and trigger points in and around my left shoulder and scapula and the muscles were in such a tight spasm that they were actually restricting blood supply to my arm and squeezing the nerves so tight that my fingers were going numb. Once I came to this realization I felt much better ( mentally) although not that much better physically. The masseuse said I should get in the ocean and swim and this might help loosen up the muscles so I grabbed the kids and we threw on some snorkel masks and we snorkeled for the next few hours. The arm actually felt pretty good in the water. Rating: Thumbs up for ambiance (who doesn’t like a beach massage) and for peace of mind (at least I am pretty sure what is going on now) I am Doctor Sugar and I’ll be back with more of this exciting story real soon. These are the pictures from the fateful day when I damaged my shoulder. Looking back now it is pretty clear that as I reached behind and above my head and grabbed the top line, I strained/stretched the muscles in and around my left scapula/shoulder. There are also some tears in the ligaments and the whole area is in spasm. So getting back to my story... We are now back on the ship after the nice little beach massage. I am still looking for some relief to my shoulder. If you have missed the beginning of this shoulder saga click here to get the scoop. I have some aspirin but it doesn’t seem to touch the pain so I called the spa and asked if they had any appointments for acupuncture. I was in luck. The doctor was in! Yes! I have been receiving regular acupuncture for quite a while now. My friend Dr. Tara Perry who was on a BraveHeart View and was one of the guests at RISE is a very gifted Doctor of Oriental Medicine who practices in Beverly Hills, CA. I make it a point to see her every time I visit the area. I recently underwent a minor surgical procedure and my wonderful, wonderful friend Dr. Perry came to my hotel room and did an acupuncture treatment within 48 hours after my procedure and then again 5 days after the procedure to assist with healing. (That is a true friend) I currently get acupuncture about once or twice a month primarily for stress relief and to balance Qi. I enjoy it immensely. Ok back to the shoulder problem. I meet the doctor, explain the problem and remove my clothes and lay down on the table. He inserts the needles and then leaves (as is general practice - - usually the needles are inserted and you are left to meditate while the needles work their magic). Unfortunately, (although this is usually a very pleasant part of the procedure) for me and my shoulder this was not the case. At this point my muscles went into major spasm and I was in tears. Literally taking a vagus breath every 2 seconds to keep from flying off the table with needles sticking out all over my body. To say it was miserable is no understatement. When the doctor returned I explained that the needles just weren’t giving me the relief that I had hoped for… so in addition to the needles he also began doing acupressure to some of the trigger points that were in spasm, which helped immensely. So.... Results: Therapy 2: ACUPUNCTURE Price: $177.00 Time: 35 minutes Results: Pain 8/10 at beginning of acupuncture session Pain 10/10 during session Pain 1/10 at end of acupuncture/acupressure session. Unfortunately this lasted only about 5 minutes until I put my bra and shirt on and then the muscle went back into spasm again and the pain went back to about 6/10. Main benefit: total relief for 5 minutes which again re-assured me that I didn’t have a serious internal injury. The DOM (Doctor of Oriental Medicine) recommended two products to me. I will do another post in a few days talking about all the products that I have been taking both topically and internally…so you’ll have to wait on the edge of your seat to hear about those. Rating: Two Thumbs up for 5 minutes of relief and peace of mind that what I have is going to be ok ... it is just a matter of time. Also for my belief in Acupuncture in general and for previous excellent results. One Thumbs down for cost. Granted I was on a cruise ship but I felt like $177.00 dollars for a session was not cost effective for the results. I am Doctor Sugar and I’ll be back with more of this exciting story real soon. When you have a medical questions simply click on my picture and go to my profile to see a wide variety of videos and blogs about wellness and self esteem. I’ll see you there!! Would you like to join your Community Doctor? **Ratings** Pain Scale 1 to 10 with 1 being like a paper cut and 10 like childbirth or the worst pain ever Thumbs Up Scale 1 to 3 (good – better – best) Thumbs Down Scale 1 to 3 (not effective – wouldn’t take the time/money to try it – definitely would NOT recommend it) The information contained in this blog is not medical advice. As many of you have already expressed to me your strong connection or feelings for the legends of Avalon, I ask that you connect with the spirit of the divine feminine tonight. This evening I will do a Peace Ceremony on this land in preparation for our gathering. Thank you to Satya for your vision and calling out to me with your message… In your mind’s eye, for a few minutes if you can, please cross with me through mists of Avalon tonight, (one of us is actually in Glastonbury this night) holding the image of us joining hands in a large circle surrounding the sacred labyrinth which is at the heart of Grail Springs. And in amongst our feet are gathered all creatures of the forest that we have beckoned to come and join us, and all creatures of the sky, and the creatures of the surrounding lake. Let us also invite the first Nations who walked these lands before us, the women, the men, their children, and let us invite the settlers who forged a new life, let us invite all those who have walked these land before us to hold this space with us tonight and throughout the faire… Let us all stand together in this circle of oneness and hold the essence of ‘Gracious Peace’ in our hearts and our minds. Let all past battles be complete. Let the necessary healing ignite and be allowed to come to peace and wholeness. The land, the people, the creatures, our planet, let us all be joined in the realization that we are indeed One and need each other to each play our part in the magnificent orchestra of life (for all you musicians out there!) Ladies - the dates of the Grail Lady Faire falls between the most potent time of the year – specifically – the cosmic energies are set up for major world transformation. We are bookended by a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse. Imagine… I am counting the nights…. to be One with you All…. Much love and Light, Madeleine "In your light I learn how to love In your beauty how to make poems You dance inside my chest where no one sees you But sometimes, I do And that sight becomes this art." -Rumi So looking forward to seeing you soon at RISE To Your Total Wellness, Dr. Sugar
