There is tremendous power in giving. Great world leaders, high achievers and extremely successful people have always been the greatest givers. Napoleon Hill said, “I will induce others to serve me because of my willingness to serve others.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “One cannot sincerely help another without helping themselves.”

I am in constant awe of the Divine Universal Laws that play in the backgrounds of our lives. Even though these laws are always consistent, their beauty and magic continue to surprise me. The Law of Reciprocity is one such law.

When we give, we are opening a channel, creating a new energy that can be shared, forwarded, circulated and recycled over and over again. In giving, we are creating. And I believe our ultimate purpose for being is to create.

When I refer to giving, I’m not necessarily talking about money. I’m talking about giving of our time, attention, energy, assistance and kindness. All of these things are free and we have an unlimited supply of these things, so why not give them away? When you give, it is then that you receive and not sooner.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not advocating giving to get, but I will say that getting is impossible without first giving… it is Universal Law. I am advocating giving to give for the sheer joy it. In doing so, you’re creating positive energy on so many levels. On one level, your gift is helping the receiver, and on another level, you are raising your own vibration, which not only benefits you, but benefits everyone around you.

I’ve put this to the test. I love walking at my neighborhood park. There’s a running path around the perimeter of the park and it is usually populated with people morning, noon and night. I’m a friendly and outgoing person by nature and I smile at people as we cross paths. Not everybody smiles back, but most people do and when they do, I feel a surge of energy, and I am certain they do to. I would also venture to guess that they will have a smile to give to the next person they see…

Think about how good it feels when you receive something. Just yesterday I was shopping with my child for a memory card that holds music on a cell phone. While in the electronics department, we could not find one, so we asked one of the clerks. He couldn’t find what we were looking for, so he called over two other clerks. Together, these young men were determined to get us what we wanted. Their customer service was impeccable. Not only did I walk away with a memory card in hand, but even more importantly, I walked away feeling loved and honored that these young men were passionate about serving me. They didn’t get a bonus or reward for their outstanding efforts, but I could feel their joy and sense of satisfaction in a job well done.

To live an excellent life, we must be excellent givers. Giving truly makes the world go round. Look for an opportunity to give today and notice how good it makes you feel to give freely.

You remember the old ten, right? She was personified by the gorgeous Bo Derek in 1979 in the movie, “10.” She was model thin, stunningly beautiful, and the desire of every man, gay and straight. Straight men wanted to be with her, while gay men wanted to be her. She was the girl in the posters hung in auto shops and on every adolescent boy’s bedroom wall.

She was the woman who drove our American expectations about beauty into the world of make-believe and who drove “regular” women to anorexia, diet pills, tanning beds and self-loathing. It is true. Women have been hit hard in the area of self-worth with the onset of the old ten. We desperately tried to measure up to her, and in doing so, lost much of our self-esteem and lost sight of our true, authentic selves.

Well, here it is 30 years later and as the planet shifts into a more kind and gentle place, so do our ideas about what constitutes a ten. I’ve coined the phrase “The New 10” after years of working with women, young girls and myself in the area of self-worth.

The New 10 is a woman who honors and loves herself –her entire self: mind, body and spirit. She nurtures her femininity and revels in its magnificence. She is a beacon to women everywhere as her inner goddess shines brightly. She is kind and nurturing, while she is oblivious to the opinions of others and gracefully runs her own race. As she does, she invigorates and energizes everyone around her, giving them permission to expand in their greatness, inviting their audaciousness to the forefront.

The New 10 takes excellent care of herself. She is constantly monitoring what she consumes in the way of food, thoughts and energy. The foods she chooses are healthy and nutritious and contribute to her overall health and stamina. She reads, watches and listens to inspirational and educational information that contributes to her positive mindset. She chooses her friends carefully and spends her valuable time with people who uplift, inspire, love and support her.

The New 10 understands that her choices form her –that she is the master creator of her life. She is not perfect by any means, but learns from her every mistake, seeing them for the golden opportunities for growth that they are, and forges a new course that aligns with her true spirit. The New 10 knows she lives in a benevolent and abundant universe and never hoards her blessings. Instead she shares them with the world, knowing that is her purpose for being here.

Where are you? Are you The New 10 or are you stuck somewhere between the old and the new? I invite you to explore how you view yourself and how you treat yourself. Are you loving, kind and nurturing to every part of your precious being? Are you fully expressing your divinity to yourself and the world? If not, why not? As a child of God, it is your birthright, your calling, your purpose.

It’s time to redefine The New 10 for ourselves and for our daughters. Are you in?

Love and blessings,
Dawn McIntyre
