How are you celebrating Earth Day?

Posted Apr 22, 2009 10:39 AM
I heard a question recently and wanted to share it with everyone: Has the economic crisis crushed the green movement?

The short answer is a loud and resounding “no.” Even the littlest things can benefit our earth.

I am very fortunate to work for an environmentally conscious firm (www.greenworkspc.com). GreenWorks PC is a Portland-based design firm specializing in landscape architecture and environmental design.

Today, GreenWorks will be working with the Portland Public Schools doing landscape maintenance for a selection of stormwater bioswale swales and rain gardens. The school system is always hesitant to add new features because of maintenance needs. Pulling weeds, replanting, pruning, and clearing out litter and debris from the stormwater systems will improve the overall functionality by diffusing and infiltrating rain water. This cools and replenishes our groundwater table, rather than overflowing into our swollen rivers, a significant benefit to rearing trout and salmon.

What activities will you all be sharing in today? Let’s help inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth’s environment…not just today, but everyday.

Happy Earth Day,

Alex

Alexandra, it seems that more people are now taking an interest in going green due to the economic issues. ;)

Are You busy?
Hi Alex;

I got an e-mail today that I thought was pretty good.
I have bathed our 4 paws and I have 4, (- 2 small and 2 very large doggies) in Ivory Liquid Dish or Dawn (Original) soap and it kills the flee's from the pet.
Today, I learned if you take a fluffy cotten ball, sop it with the dish soap, rub it in a circle about 15 rubs, it will lift a tick off of the animals - no need for harsh chemicals on them again.
I know in Oregon, you all do not have that issue but in the South, it is a major issue.
Maybe others can use the "green" idea, Saving your pet from chemicals.
Blessings,
Linda
