Intuition… or Left Brain Logic…

What muscles do you use to make important decisions?

Do you base your choices on logic…researching statistics, on what others tell you or by writing down the pros and cons on a piece of paper? Then after weighing all the possibilities, you finalize your decision and hope for success.

Then once the decision is made, does fear sneak in when you realize that making decisions leads to new beginnings that can take you out of your comfort zone?

What about Intuition…that feeling in your gut that hangs on until you notice it?

Scientists now agree that intuition is the best way to go.
“New studies show intuition isn’t just a feeling, but the result of our brains subconsciously piecing together information and experiences,” says Lynn A Robinson, M.Ed., author of Divine Intuition.

Let’s think about the steps to recognizing intuition and understanding the process for decision making:

1. Trust your first impression! Many people believe this to be outdated, but it turns out to be remarkably accurate. You do not get a second chance to make a first impression.

2. Listen to your body! Your heart and brain gets excited to your very core when you have a positive feeling about something. However when the palms sweat, the heartbeat flutters and the stomach does flip flops, we have gone against our gut instincts.

3. Brainstorm! A simple exercise is to write down the pros and cons – whatever comes to mind. Doing this simple process releases the messages from your subconscious… and is very effective.

4. Sleep on it! Think about the question or decision before going to sleep. An old concept, yet very effective, this “programs” your subconscious and will harness dream power into your decision results.

5. Rely on your instinct! Trust your inner voice to lead you to success.

6. Envision success! Daydream about your question. Take time to let your mind have the freedom to roam…ideas and resolutions will come to you. Don’t be afraid of achieving your success and the new beginnings you will experience.

Anthony Robbins says in his book, Giant Steps – Small Changes to Make a Big Difference,
“The more decisions you make, the better you’ll become at making them. Muscles get stronger with use, and so it is with your decision-making muscles.”

So today, make two decisions you have been avoiding: one easy decision and one that’s more challenging to accomplish. Immediately take the first step towards achieving each of them, and follow-through with the next step tomorrow. By taking one step at a time, you will be building the "muscle" that can change your life.

Let your Intuition guide you to easier decisions! :-x

Hello Linda. I just took a test a few hours ago, and it said that I use both the right and left sides of my brain equally. But I've learned from personal experience that when that voice speaks I better listen. Excellent advice for all the world to hear. Best wishes and Happy Mother's Day.

Hi Linda

what wonderful wisdom Linda, thanks for your thoughts. I'm going to get my 18 year old daugther and 11 year old son to read this and i'm sure it will aid them in making the right decisions in their lives.
I wish i had been armed with that sort of wisdom and been confident to use it many years ago. We all learn these things when we need to, all part of lifes great plan.

Thanks, Linda..this is very helpful......thanks for sharing.

Hi Linda,

everything flows to us when we need them don't they?
Thanks for your wonderful article on our intuition, I absolutely agree with you. I am currently reading Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain and she describes a wonderful meditation exercise, it's called PINK Bubble Technique (pages 98,99)

in short:

1.First we need to deeply relax by breathing slowly and deeply
2. Then we imagine something we 'd like to manifest; imagine it already happened.
3. In our mind's eye we surround our goal in a pink bubble. PINK is the color associated with heart and when this color vibration surrounds whatever we visualize, then it reaches us in perfection and harmony with our being.
4. Lastly we let go of the bubble and imagine it float in the universe where it picks up and attracts and gathers energy for it's manifestation.

Yes, definitely we ought to rely on our intuition and applying it to all our life aspects

Linda,

You are so right on. Split brain research (the study of how the left and right sides of the brain function differently) shows that we process all information as images first, and words or thoughts, second. Therefore our, verbal, or left brain isn't really in the driver seat.

The right brain or intuitive brain is really in charge.

Thanks for this great blog! As a physician I think I have become relatively left brained and analytical full of all the facts, statistics, indications, side effects, etc etc however I truly believe that listening to our intuition is very important. Getting in touch with my creative right brained self is a priority in my life! Thanks for all of your excellent tips!

Even as a physician one of the most important qualities that a good doctor will develop is that first impression - it forms within 5 seconds after entering a room and it basically says SICK or WELL. This is very important to listen to and probably one of the greatest skills a doctor learns.

Thank you Linda for this article.

I have been "struggling" a bit with a career decision and I am glad to be reminded of the powerful resource of intuition.

Years ago I read a wonderful book (Living in the Light by Shatki Gawain) and the book focused on developing intuition and honoring the "male" and "female" aspects within. I think I need to find it and read it again.

I find it hard (some times) to read my body, because at times I have been plagued with unrational fears (fear of flying, fear of moving out of my comfort zone, etc). How does one know when a fear is intuitive and when it is unrational?

Does anyone have any wisdom around this? I'd LOVE to hear it.

I know and believe I will get clear and make a good decision. It's all good, but would love to hear from this huge resource of wise women.

Sincerely,
Claudia Carawan
Good evening Linda,

Thank you for your post - it is very timely - as I am faced with a major decision, and really need to connect with my Essence within, in order to make the choice that will be for my highest good.
I will use your valuable suggestions and see where my intuition leads me.

I really like the part where you refer to it as a mucle that must be used and developed. For too many of my adult years, I have been caught in the analytical side of my brain and have not trusted my intuition. Then when I really needed it - it was much harder to access.

Thank you for all you do and especially for being You! :)

Audie,

Intuitive inspiration in your words....from experience and from your heart. :-x
You have shared an important insight that ...
"One shouldn't fret over the past, but the time that is used analyzing a decision instead of trusting gut feelings is time that could have been put to much better use!"

Let's take inspired action and use our time wisely to inspire others...and be inspired!

Hi Linda,

I have been relying on my intuition for most of my life. I am fortunate that it comes very naturally for me.
Sometimes, though that second guessing brain action comes into play and I have given in at times, but I almost always go back to my original gut feeling that I had in the first place.

One shouldn't fret over the past, but the time that is used analyzing a decision instead of trusting gut feelings is time that could have been put to much better use!

It is a learning process, to train yourself to trust your intuition but it is very worthwhile.

Pawsitive thoughts,

Audie
Dear Debra,

Listening to all the chatter in your head comes from the "right brain - analytical" side.
Go with that first impression...that gut feeling.... called Intuition. It gives you a great feeling of peace. :-x

Be grounded and breathe...:)

Aloha Linda,

Making two decisions is the easy part... the challenge is taking those first empowered steps to accomplish them. ;)

Hi Robin,

We create our own challenges when we allow the "right brain" thinking to take over.
When we trust the process, our life flows with ease and we create the opportunity to listen to our intuition.

Thanks for the words of appreciation. :-x

Joy,
It often takes inner strength to really listen to that "gut feeling". However it is that "inner voice" that will lead us to take action towards our passion and purpose. ;)

In Gratitude, :-x

Linda (nulinda),

Growing our self-esteem is a journey that will empower us...if we listen to our intuition.
All part of believing in yourself and the inspiration you share with others.

Thanks for your energy. :-x
