Living In Gratitude

Posted Feb 25, 2010 11:07 PM
There are many times in our lives where we experience an awakening to what is truly important in our lives. Yet so often we take alot of our daily existence for granted.

Since my niece had been in a coma for a couple of weeks, it brought to my attention how many simple, daily things I am grateful for. She brought an awareness to "living in gratitude". I am grateful that I can breathe, easily, on my own. That I awaken each day, can speak, move my arms, feet, fingers, tongue, eyes....all at my own will. Thankful that I can walk, even across the room, that I can remember yesterday, last year, or even farther back.

While I have been taught through different mentors the importance of writing a gratitude list daily...there are times it becomes routine..saying things like I appreciate my body, my family, etc.., but what I now realize is how much we should all express this gratitude in a heartfelt manner. Really FEELING grateful for every part of our existence.

My niece is awake, she is doing great, her current challenge is being able to walk...her legs are not yet doing what she tells them to do. We pray for her continued healing and her ability to walk again. Thanks to all of my wonderful braveheart sisters and friends for the continued support....I am grateful.

Hello Rebecca :^ ) First of all hurray for her progress, it's a hard thing to watch those you love or anyone for that matter in pain. In my opinion, if everyone made even the slightest effort to alleviate the discomfort of another human being, even in the smallest way, then the suffering would be more bearable and the world would make more sense and get on the right track.
Sometimes all of us forget that medicine alone is not enough, the true healing process is love and the desire to help another human being.
We don't have to be saints to do this, we just have to have some compassion.

Thanks for sharing your story, it resonates with all of us, and I'll keep her in my thoughts and assume she's going to make a full recovery.

Have a happy day, Liv

Becky, Tonight, I just clicked on a link, joined the braveheartwomen group and found this inspiring blog topic. I am so pleased to hear that your niece is doing better. It's funny, but it seems we don't really appreciate and feel grateful for people or things in our lives until something "bad" happens.

A young mother in my "extended" family just reminded all of us that we need to be grateful of what we have been given. This 28-year-old mother of a 2-year-old girl had been stricken with a blood clot in her brain. Inoperable, all that the health care providers could do was treat her seizures and mini-strokes with medications and hospitalizations. With the prayers of many, she is now at home with her loving family and recuperating while being able to see her child at play. The clot is not gone, but due to love, prayers, grace and some good medications, it is fading. This brave young woman is expected to make a full recovery. ~ Kindest regards, Kat

Hi Rebecca,

I am so glad that your niece is recovering. I pray that she will recover quickly and be awed at her "new" self.

I had a friend that was in a coma for weeks also. He was a horse trainer. He had a stroke at the time and a heart attack too. Every one was sure he would just give up.

His love for horses and his desire to be back with them helped him to get out of the rehab center while others less affected languished.

Over time, he regained his memory, his speech and his mobility. He even showed horses again...high powered Saddlebreds at 5 gaits.

I have no doubt that you will be able to empower your niece to find her passion for life...perhaps a new passion that will create new life within her.

With love, comopassion and empowerment,

animal lover Amelia
Dearest Becky,

You radiate gratitude! I have felt it first hand. What a woman of great inspiration you are. So very happy for your niece. I know she WILL continue to heal.

You have reminded me to be more grateful for the blessings that I have in my life. Having just lost my Father, I know the importance of being grateful for what we have today. Live in gratitude TODAY.
Thank You for being an example of a gracious woman.

See you soon my friend!
Love,
Mari Chavez

You are so Right,we tend not to look around and just be grateful for things.
I keep a gratitude journal that I try to write in everyday but I have noticed the same recently that it can become routine and this blog you wrote help me to not forget that we must look to be grateful and really appreciate things.

Every single time, it's just breathtaking to see what's unleashed by prayers and love. How lucky are we to witness it (well, sort of witness it. The internet's powerful but it's not THAT powerful. :) )

What an important difference it makes, doesn't it, to feel the gratitude? It's something magical, how as it swells up, so swells so much super energy. Sometimes, it almost feels like cheating to get so much bliss, to be so connected, with so little effort.

Maybe that's exactly what the plan was. Is.

Love, love, love love love.

I am grateful for you Becky as you have reminded me to be appreciative for those things than become so commonplace to us that yes...we take them for granted. We don't know what we have til its gone.
