Love Is A Verb

Posted Aug 13, 2009 12:29 PM
When love is a noun
It feels strangely like own.
It is clawing and clinging
And can’t be alone.

It demands to be treated
To all of the best.
It will follow you endlessly
Without any rest.

When love is a verb
It has movement and flow.
It is generous and giving
With no need to know.

It assumes that the magic
That shows up each day
Is a part of the natural
Dynamics in play.

Thanks Anita and Chickee for taking the ride!

I was attempting to put words on a long-time struggle with being told "I love you" so many times, yet, instead of it feeling enhancing and nurturing, I found that the feeling that was consistently created in my gut was constriction, tightness and a feeling of being trapped.

I started playing with words. "I love you so much! I just want you to (fill in the blank). Then I would replace the sentence told to me with: "I OWN you so much! I just want you to (fill in the blank).

I discovered that when I replaced the word love with the word own, the constricted, trapped feeling made perfect sense! This poem is my attempt at expressing that important awareness that allowed me to claim more ownership of my own life.
Love it! Thanks for sharing!
Clever rhyming and economy of expression, Susan. :)
