Time & Balance

Posted Jan 19, 2009 09:12 AM
As I prepare today for my grandaughter's eighth birthday party, I delight in her excitement of being another year older.
She is excited about her friends coming, and celebrating with her. In truth, she is probably more excited about presents and the attention given. It is her special day.
I tried to recall my eighth birthday, but the recall button wasn't working so well. I will have to try the refresh key. What I do recall however, wasn't specific presents, but the fuss my parents made. Always having a cake and doing something special just for me.
In reflection of time spent as a family, I am so grateful for the lessons taught. For the TIME spent and for the family experiences that were shared.
As I look at the two little girls and what is important in their lives, I can see that the most important thing I can do for them, or any of us can do for children, is to share of our TIME. It rushes by so quickly. To quickly.
Balance in our lives is essential. Balancing family time, business time as well as personal time. It is easy to get caught up in any area and then feel overwhelmed because we may feel we have dropped the ball in one of the other areas in our lives. How do we manage balance? We don't. We don't try to manage anything. We let go, take a step back and focus. When you are working...work only. When you are with your family...be with your family. And when you have personal time, use it wisely for without that personal time you may miss some great insight. Personal time is the fuel for continued energy, continued growth.
In contemplating a new 8 year old, my goal today and every day, is to be sure she knows she is loved and is special.

I bet your granddaughter has a year's more of confidence, curiosity, and activity all rolled into 1 little girl. Precious years, so enjoy them immensely, even though she may be able to outlast you in energy. My 10-year old granddaughters energy and enthusiasm never wanes.

Balancing of time in life is the key. Oh, I could do a much better job a second time around. Now I'm in that second time around (maturity stage) and so grateful everyday what I learned by succeeding and failing in the past. I have many good answers now and learning more every day.

Happiness to you, Grandma Mom! This is a great title and awesome community for special people.

I so agree with you, Carol.
The time we spend with our family is so precious, and our children grow so quickly that those special times seem to race by even faster. Balancing those times with the other areas of our lives on a daily basis takes focus. It is important to recognize each area of time and to be in the moment, at that moment.

Every moment of time is an opportunity for a new beginning and a time to be more creative and productive. It is important to recognize how special everyone is and appreciate each day.

Enjoy your special time with your new 8-year-old today !!!
