New York Here we Come!

Posted Jun 24, 2009 10:51 AM
This August I'm taking my family to New York. I have never seen a Broadway show, and I want us all to experience the excitement of the Big Apple.

I'm putting inspirational matters aside to ask my Braveheart Sisters for their recommendations for shows, restaurants, shopping tips and other sites to see while we are there.

I am traveling with my husband and a teenage daughter who loves to shop. We will arrive on a Thursday afternoon and leave on Monday morning. We are staying within walking distance of the Broadway district.

Any information is appreciated! Thanks for your input!

I don't have any great advice, as I've only been to Buffalo, New York. I will say that the hot dogs and pizza are good. My grandsons, who live in Buffalo, are quite the experts in these two food stuffs. Anyway, I just wanted to wish you well! Have a great time, my friend.

Peace and blessings.

The Metropolitan Opera House is the Crown Jewel of Lincoln Center It is a magnificent structure, and the front is entirely glass. An extraordinarily breath-taking chandelier graces the center of the front atrium - and on either side, visible through the glass are two Chagall Murals The Sources of Music, and The Triumph of Music.

The entire complex is stunning - located at 66th and Broadway. Swing by there!

The courtyard features a very large fountain - lit at night.

A wonderful part of the New York Experience!

This seems to be a good site for Broadway Show info

LET IT BE FUN!B-)
TKTS offer same day purchase of tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays at up to 50% off. I have saved thousands of dollars there! ;) Caveat: If there is a HOT ticket that you have you heart set on seeing - don't count on it being available at TKTS. I would advise you to shop it online and get it in advance. However - there are many bargains at tkts that will stretch you travel dollars! If you have never seen a Broadway Show, they all will thrill! Linda
Dear Linda: This is WONDERFUL information. I LOVE your description of the New York pizza!! The corned beef on rye also has my mouth watering.

My husband mentioned 3 things he wanted to experience in New York (Bagels, Hot Dogs & Pizza) so I think he will be happy.

A few questions:
Is TKTS on line? I will google that?
What is Chagalls at the Lincoln Center?

We are going in August so I have time to plan it all out... I SO APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!

Any show suggestions?
Aloha Claudia!!

I volunteer to be your personal Tour Guide!

There is a little matter of 6 thousand miles :O

I am wishing you a grand time and pleasant weather!

Tips:

* You will be walking allot - COMFY SHOES ARE A MUST

* EAT Pizza! Pizza is available everywhere - No Pizza in the world holds a candle to NY Street Pizza!! Fold it and let the grease run down your arm! Let it cool (takes an iron will) so you don't have that "roof of you mouth burn thing" going on!

* One sunny afternoon, TAKE THE CIRCLE LINE TOUR - and do it at the beginning ,like Friday afternoon - it is fun and a great orientation to NYC! I recommend it to all visitors - Have done it myself many times! AND - it includes a great view of the Statue of Liberty, without the long lines!

* TKTS - THE Place for theatre bargains!

* Send me a postcard:
PO Box 7533
Ocean View Hi 96737

* Go to the top of the Empire State Building! It's magic!

* See the Chrysler Building

* See Rockefeller Center

* Walk where the greats have walked and see the Chagalls at Lincoln Center!

* Carnegie Hall - and around the corner, THE CARNEGIE Deli - have a corned beef on rye that is impossible to get your mouth around!

* I have close friends at many theatres - let me know, and perhaps a backstage tour ( fascinating! ) can be arranged!

* It probably will be HOT - and take a wrap for the AC, and evenings

* PLEASE encourage your husband to put his wallet in his front pocket - he will never feel the "lift" - and really be mindful of your purse and cam and any valuables - "street smartz" are just plain good sense there.

I know I will have more suggestions immediately after posting this... Have a Blast Claudia!

NYC is like nowhere else!

*envious hugs*

Linda
