Self Worth

I recently met a gentleman who spoke Spanish. He spoke to a group of us early morning prayer warriors about his life in the mountains of Peru along with his interpreter. After sharing his life he asked my name, it became translated as Dorotea.:-D

Then I wondered how I could ask him his wife's name. I pointed to my wedding ring and asked the interpreter how to say wife? He responded that his wife's name was Doris, and in his culture they didn't exchange rings because someone could steal them. The love for each other was safe & secure in their hearts. Oh, isn't that sweet! ;\

As a young woman I remember how vastly important that ring was. I just wanted to be able to show everyone that I'm valued. In 1975 my ring cost $275. A lot of money back then! I see young women today who also must have the perfect ring, only that costs have increased by thousands. So things haven't changed much about a woman's self worth. How many women attach the value of their ring to their self worth?

In my mid-life crisis, I recall buying a ring just for myself to prove I was worth being loved again. That ring was $225. To reward myself yet again a few years later, I told my husband I was going to buy a more expensive ring. He said, "No you're not, I will buy it for you!" I gratefully accepted it. Today I don't need proof that I'm worth being loved. The little girl in me KNOWS that I am loved by God and so are you. He proved he loved us by the death of His son Jesus.

Dear Dorothy,

This man and your husband are very sweet. While a ring is not mandatory, I feel it is a nice symbol and reminder of love and commitment. It matters less the monetary value when compared to the sentimental value. Objects themselves dont mean much but how they make us feel, the memories,etc....mean alot to me.

I bought a sliver bracelet for myself for much the same reason.;)

Love:-x

True that our ring doesn't equate with our worth, but what I like about my ring is that it's a reminder of the love that can keep people together for a long time.
...and God is Love which is indeed POWER-FULL, Dorothy.:-x
