April Fools Day is celebrated all over the world with many variances. The day sees pranks and practical jokes played on friends, colleagues and family members with the intention of embarrassing anyone gullible enough to fall for the 'joke'.

Below are three of the most famous April Fools Day jokes played on the public:

In 1957 BBC showed the Swiss harvesting spaghetti from trees. People called BBC wanting to know how to grow such a tree. ?:|

In 1988 Burger King designed a burger for left-handed people with condiments slipping out of the right side. People actually ordered the left-handed burgers; others said they preferred the right-handed burgers. :O

In 1965 BBC conducted a test (Smell-o-vision) saying that they were sending odor over the airwaves. People called in reporting the success of the test. :^O

Wouldn't it be fun to act like a fool on April Fools Day? Webster Dictionary's definition of FOOL: "A man formerly kept in the household of a nobleman or king to entertain by joking and clowning." So to do silly things or play fun jokes is quite appropriate for today.

Go ahead, break your usual serious countenance! Be creative and play a trick, do silly things, 'fool' around. Celebrate the day!

Tell us about your favorite April Fools Day story!!! From your 'Fool' Friend - just for today,

Becky and Linda, I never heard of the sponge cake trick until both of you shared your stories!
It is fun to visualize something crazy being done like covering dry, colored sponges with delicious looking frosting! :-p

Also calling Dr. Bear at the zoo is a winner! :^O

Thank you for sharing girls!

One April Fools Day I was given a message to call Dr Bear. I called all day the line was busy. I was finally told at 5 pm I was calling the zoo.

I have also had fun making a sponge cake. I decorated it with white icing and gave it to a friend of mine for her birthday. I asked her to cut the first piece. She cut and cut....but was too embarrassed to realize it was not her fault. We still laugh about it today.

Have a great April.

Audie, it's so much fun when an April Fools trick works so well!!! The owners of the house probably would have loved to be in on the trick as well! Next time . . .
Happy memories!
Thanks Audie.

Alane, your brothers' unusual rubber band trick got a lot of mileage! Your brothers to you; you to your son; your son to his teacher and his teacher to her husband. It likely went further on from there. . . .
Lots of fun!

This is funny but true. When my Dad proposed to my Mom on April Fools Day he asked her to marry him on Independence Day (July 4th); she accepted. He called her the next day to make sure she knew he wasn't joking and to see if she had been. (She teased him then relented.) They were married 48 years before she passed away last August.
April Fool's Day 1990

My husband Dave and I decided to pull a prank on our 3 children ages 8 (twins) and 10.

At the time we were living in a not so desirable neighborhood and a very small home. We had talked about building a home and the kids were involved in the design of their bedrooms etc. So they knew it was for real that they would be moving eventually.

The English Tutor house that we had decided on was beautiful, we would all look at the plans often and imagine what it would look like on the inside. The girls had their colors and decor chosen for their rooms, our son was interested where all his electronic gadgets would live. Needless to say they were having a great time.

A few months into the house building idea, Dave and I were driving through a really nice neighborhood one day and saw the mirror image of the exact same house we were going to build. We couldn't believe our eyes. At that moment we both thought of the April Fool's prank we could pull on our unsuspecting children. I know it sounds a little mean but read on....

Being the type of parents that we are, raising our kids to go with the flow, we decided that they were secure enough to handle this somewhat nasty prank, and moved forward with our plan.

So we set the stage ... It was the morning of April 1, we told them not to ride the school bus home that day we would be there to pick them up, because we had a huge surprise for them that they were sure to love. They had all day to imagine just what the surprise might be.......

We picked up 3 very excited kids that afternoon. We didn't share the surprise until they were in the car. We told them we were not going to build the house that they had come to love (on paper). Our children are pretty good at expressing their opinions so you can imagine what kind of reaction that brought. When the noise level dropped we proceeded to tell them we had a much better idea than building a house that would take a long time to complete and we really weren't up for all the stress involved in building..... etc. At this point we were turning the corner towards the mirror image of the house that we were going to build, the house they were very fond of by now. We said the reason we are not going to build is because, as we pulled into the driveway, we bought this house, instead.!!!!

The noise level was back in the intolerable range once again....
Dave and I were enjoying the moment but suddenly we realized we had to break the April Fool's news when they went charging to the front door to go inside and take a look at their new home. This wasn't so good because it wasn't even for sale it was occupied! The words 'April Fool's' loudly came blurting out of our mouths just in time before the front door was bombarded. I never did find out if the owners were watching this or not, it is probably best I don't know.

Remember the noise level I spoke about before... didn't even compare... this one was off the charts!!!!
As you might guess they were a little upset but after the initial shock of the news wore off they began to laugh really hard (I love to hear them laugh) and all was well when we said we were still going to build....they are really good sports.

Fast forward 2 years... It is now April 1992 and we are moved into our new home with most of what they had imagined for their special places and Mom and Dad's 'nasty' trick wasn't so bad after all.

Every April Fool's Day for the last 17 years all 5 of us remember the prank of 1990.

Happy April Fool's Day to all:^O

I think the funniest Aprils fool joke I have heard is one my Son-in-love shared. When he was a little boy his favorite cake was sponge cake so after school on April 1st. his mother made him a sponge cake, he was so very excited to see the cake. When he started to eat it he realized it was made out of real sponges. I love to listen to him tell of this favorite childhood memory because he laughs and laughs. He now has a new baby (my beautiful Grandson) and I am sure he will do something equally funny when his son is old enough to play a trick on.

Happy April Fools Day!!!!!

I must figure out the button trick for my grandson! So funny! Well, this is what my stepdaughter did to her kids. The boy sleeps in a Pirate ship bed made by his dad and the girl has a very girlie PINK room. After they were asleep, they switched them. Here is what happened!ok,Phoebe woke up at 1:45 a liiiitttttle upset sniffling over my bed in my favorite wake up/poltergeist move that she does so well "mommy, I woke up and sniff I sniff was in ELI"S BED!! Where is ELI?" He's in your bed sweetie, April Fools! "WHERE do I sleep??" Hop in... FF to 4:30 "mmmmooooooommmmmmmmyyyyyy" come on in Eli! "..Somehow I woke up in Phoebe's bed" I know, April Fools! "Why was there a cat on me then?" I don't know how the cat got it, the joke was switching beds. "OH, giggle giggle, well a cat showed up too!" Hop in...thank goodness for a king sized bed. Had I known that this "funny prank" would wake mommy up at all hours...I woud've short sheeted the beds!
Okay - Okay - I LOVE to laugh - I love a good joke when it's played on someone else. <smile> My son was six years old when I bent a bobby pin wide open, threaded an elastic band though the two holes in the center of a button and then attached each end of the elastic to each end of the bobby pin by twisting the rubber band over and over again until it was very tightly twisted up. I then placed it inside a small white envelope and sealed it gently - just right where the cover comes to a point. I then handed it to my son and told him there was a surprise inside of it for him. He quickly began to open it and ... <huge smile> The rubber band sprang into action unwinding and forcing the button around and round inside the envelope! It sounded like a rattle snake and because it actually was moving it scared the "poop" right out of him! He threw it in the air and yelled! (Just so you know, this is a trick my brothers played on me when I was younger and my reaction was quite similar!) Well, my son LOVED it after I showed him the trick and he had me re- set it so he could bring it to school. So, naturally, I did. I suspected that he would "get" one of his friends - but, no. He played the trick on his teacher in front of the whole class! LOL. Well, she didn't think having the "poop" scared out of her in front of her classroom of students was very funny at all. <Huge, huge smile> Derek (my son) had to stay after school - and when I arrived to pick him up - I got the lecture of a life time from a kindergarten teacher for sending my son to school with such a thing -- I desperately tried to keep a straight face but was unable to. LOL - thankfully by the time we finished our meeting she began to laugh and asked if she could borrow the trick to play on her husband that night! <smile> Have a blessed day everyone.

My youngest son last year decided to place a transparent rubber band around the kitchen sink spray attachment so that when my wife used the sink, she was greeted with a shower! She laughed and chased him around the house.

This year when he tried the same tactic, she was on to him. So he put a rubber snake inside the coffee canister and attached it to the lid so when my wife went to make some coffee... well, I am sure you can picture her surprise!

She told our son to be alert the rest of the day, because he will be no match for her! LOL

Enjoy!
Paul
