BELIEF - Your Own, or Theirs?

You have many beliefs. How do you know which beliefs are your beliefs and which beliefs belong to someone else? ?:|

As children we tended to internalize the beliefs of those family members and friends within our immediate circle. :|

As we grew older we tended to internalize the beliefs of those in our schools and our local society. As an adult we continued to internalize the beliefs of those in our workplace and in our government. :8}

We must be aware that our beliefs are also formed by all of the forces that surround us on a daily basis. Our beliefs are constantly being shaped as we open ourselves to read the newspaper, to watch the news on TV or to join in a discussion at the post office. Each time we say "YES", either internally or in conversation, we are anchoring those beliefs.

So if we are constantly internalizing the beliefs of others, then how do we know what our own personal beliefs are? Good question ~

Simply, our beliefs are something we hold to be true for ourselves, something for which there is no proof. For example, long ago, it was commonly believed that the earth was flat :^O but there was no proof. Of course we now know that is silly because it has been 'proven' otherwise.

Most of us believe what we see with our eyes. Some of us believe what we hear with our ears; what we hear is usually from others. But when you believe something with all of your heart, :-x then you know that THAT is your own personal belief - no right or wrong.

Our beliefs create the quality of our consciousness. So perhaps you would want to cultivate a particular belief that would help to expand or heighten your consciousness. If so, then you can mix with those persons who also hold that same belief.

Practice testing what you believe, not with your eyes, not with your ears, not with your mind, but with your HEART. :-D
In that way, you can determine if a particular BELIEF is your own, or theirs!

This is so very true. Some times I find it hard to tell if I really believe something or if it's what I was "raised" to believe.

Dear Ellen,

Wonderful that you have so often recognized that others' beliefs were coming forward in your affairs!

Many people, if not most, are not even aware that some, or most, of their beliefs are not their own.

Love your: "Along the way it's easy to miss the sound of our own sweet authentic voice amidst the cacophony of other noises and sounds." :)

Gratitude,

Oh you packed so much wisdom into this post! Bless you. How many times I have thought or felt something and stopped myself and said, "No, Ellen, that's how your Dad felt" or "No, that's what your ex/boss/colleague believed".

Along the way it's easy to miss the sound of our own sweet authentic voice amidst the cacophony of other noises and sounds.

Thank you for the awesome reminder to be clear in our own beliefs.
