Carrying too much on your shoulders, feeling overwhelmed and helpless because of your increasingly long list of 'things to do' and the burdensome events in your life?
67791_overworked_boy.overwhelmed.jpg

Dr. Charlie Drake, our mentor and coach
, feels very strongly that we should not allow ourselves to become overwhelmed or feel overwhelmed. He has much to share on the subject.

Below is a simple process that I do when I am feeling overwhelmed.

It only takes one minute - or if you need it, two minutes.

1. Sit with your eyes closed or focus on a point in front of you.
2. Inhale - slow, deep, relaxing breath.
3. Short pause
4. Exhale - slow, relaxing exhalation

Repeat at least three times, or until you feel relaxed and clear minded (not until you feel light-headed!)

Tip:
As you exhale, visualize or imagine all of the tension from your brain/body leaving as smoke, bubbles or butterflies through the top of your head, disappearing from your existence.

If you have difficulty with visualization, stand at your sink with a glass full of water.
After you exhale each time pour out some more of the water, until the glass (you) are emptied of tension.

If you feel overwhelmed at times, you are not alone.
We all have periods when we feel we cannot do one more thing.

Empower yourself! The brain/body needs to relax like any other muscle.
Do the exercise after you finish each project, once an hour, or as needed.
Whatever works for you is perfect.

Would love to know what works for you!

Rebecca, I agree that EFT is a wonderful tool - easy to use and quick. Thank you for your addition! :)

Joy, good reminder to work on one part of a problem at a time. Breaking it down, or separating the challenge into parts that one can handle, is a wise way to proceed. Thank you for sharing. :)

Ruža, great idea to say an affirmation early in the morning or to state aloud one's intentions. :)

May I make an observation about your:
'I would add to it 2 positive affirmations in the morning when getting up:
1. I never get overwhelmed with too much work.
2. I only have as much work as I can manage in one day, I get it done easily and effortlessly with perfection.

Personally, I would delete number 1 to avoid the negative, "I never" and make number 2 my affirmation:

a) I only have as much work as I can manage in one day.
b) I get it done easily and effortlessly with excellence.

(perfection is difficult to attain!)

Thank you Ruža, wonderful suggestion!

All excellent additions and suggestions to help us manage our overwhelm!
Gratitude, :-x

Hi Rijuta, :)Thank you so much for sharing Dr Charlie Drakes, exercise for when you are overwhelmed, I do the deep breathing then I start to work on one part of the problem at a time, also I have learned to remain calm in most all situations. Thanks Charlie and Rijuta!!!! Love ,peace, happiness, calmness!!!!!Love Joy
Isn't it amazing how taking the breath relaxes us and brings us back to relax. I too follow Dr. Charlies advice on not being overwhelmed and using the breathing techniques along with some EFT that he turned me on too!!

Thank you Lana,
There are many variations on the theme and I appreciate you for adding what works for you. :)
The time/space you speak of is the 'sacred silence' that is most precious to all.

Hi Krista,

Don't you just love the spontaneous way animals and children play? With complete abandon, joy and playfulness! :-D

We need help in finding ways to let go and enjoy. I love your idea: 'What if we would take 5 or 10 minutes, let go, laugh, and play with great abandon? My dog, Bailey, appears to register shock when I try to run (only on two feet) and jump with him, but does it feel good afterwards!'

Thank you Krista,
You made me laugh when thinking about your dog, Bailey.
Show us a photo of him when you can.

Playtime everyone!
With love,

Hi Lauren,

What you are saying about journal writing is so appropriate, especially for our readers. We have hundreds upon hundreds of BraveHeart Women who write every day, either as a blog or as comments. This is simple and easy self-expression for most. New realisation about my own writing, Lauren!!!

Thank you for your own experience: 'So I suppose my writing has always been a means to release the struggles of life.'

Next shopping trip ladies, buy yourself a beautiful Journal!
Thank you Lauren! :-x

Hi, Rijuta!

Thanks for this post about being overwhelmed!

In reading these posts, comments about the donkey in the picture have ranged from letting go of the savage beast within to being light-hearted and gay. As fellow sentient beings, we have much to learn from non-human animals. They truly know how to enjoy the simple things. Many of our four-footed friends feel and express emotion. When they play, they play full- heartedly.

Animals can have those crazy moments of savageness. Humans as animals definitely have those freak-out moments! What if we would take 5 or 10 minutes, let go, laugh, and play with great abandon? My dog, Bailey, appears to register shock when I try to run (only on two feet) and jump with him, but does it feel good afterwards :)

Hi Rijuta,
Thank-you for reminding me to do what i've known to work, yet seem too often, to forget. Interesting how the mind works. As I read the comments, I noticed they kept refering to the "donkey" and I had to go back and study it's features because I honestly thought it was a horse. Since horses have been a favorite animal, my mind automaticaly saw a horse. Interesting too, that in a story I had written years ago, an analogy of my life in corporate America, I used the race horse to depict the main character. So I suppose my writing has always been a means to release the struggles of life. So I strongly reccommend journal writing every day. It helps sooth whatever savage beast we seem to be or carry.
Thanks,
Lauren:-x
Bell, excellent reminder: "Letting Go" of the things I didn't get done for that day & being okay with it. And, adding it to the list for the next day!

Thank you for sharing what works for you Bell! :-x

Dearest Rijuta,

I Agree... Deep Breathing from your core throughout the day helps the oxygen flow to your brain... Giving you more clarity... And, it keeps you grounded...

In addition to Breathing... What helps me is "Letting Go" of the things I didn't get done for that day & being okay with it. And, adding it to the list for the next day!

Rijuta, thanks for sharing this Empowering exercise with us! :-x

Lovingly,
Bell Rushing

Hi Poonam,

Your painting the picture for us of 'feeling like a donkey' ;)is helpful in order to move ourselves out of the consciousness of 'burden' and 'overload' to one of 'lightness' and 'humour'. :-D
Thank you!

hi rijuta ,
nice steps and its true that meditation helps us alot to releive our daily tensions and whenever we feel like a donkey :) , we should give a pause and meditate for a while :) .The Donkey is perfectly chosen to make the things light and to laugh at our burdens :)
'Hay' Oksana, I love your sense of humor! :^O

I have the feeling that you handle your overloads very effectively.
I'm sure your sense of humor helps as well as your 'green' environment.
Health on the inside and health on the outside!

Thanks for your input!

Ghislaine, learning to say, "No", is sometimes very difficult, especially when we are in a work situation! :|
All admiration to you for choosing to please yourself first.
Only then can we begin to please others.
Happy that you feel much better now! :)
Warmly,

Deborah, once we place more value on our soul-power self, we do what is necessary to get ourselves back into the sweet 'flow'.
I like your 'relief is sweet now and getting sweeter'. :)
