President Obama's Tribute to His Mother (Video)

Posted May 4, 2009 06:02 PM
President Obama said of his mother, "She was the beating heart of the family." To continue in celebration of Mothers Day, this video reveals striking qualities of the mother of the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama. President Obama remembers his mothers "joy, her capacity for wonder; she was the kindest, most generous spirit I have ever known and what is best in me, I owe to her. "What I want is a family that transmits the values that I inherited . . .: hard work, honesty, self-reliance, a sense of empathy, respect for others, kindness, faith." A mother, now made famous, by the election of her son, reveals some of the 'stuff' that makes for good men. Rijuta Tooker Soul-Power Community

Dear Nazeelah,

You have learned many life-supportive lessons from your Mother.
Her passive strength and her earth-mother femininity deserve your admiration.
I acknowledge you for turning your mother's weaknesses into your strengths! :-x

Dear Rijuta,

I was just telling a friend a couple of days ago how we are products of the parenting or lack of parenting that we receive in our tender years.

This video is powerful and I appreciate you for sharing.

My mother was very passive and because of her passivity she withstood verbal and physical abuse with such submissiveness. I witness this and somewhere deep in my soul I resolve to not be passive. So even in her weakness she was teaching me to be strong.

It is as if she held up a mirror to me and said you want to be stronger than this. Even so, she gave me a sense of passion by teaching me how to be a lady. she would pamper herself with bubble baths and good smelling perfumes. she loved flowers and nature and I would watch her repotting a plant and it gave her so much joy to have her hands in the dirt. From this I learn to appreciate nature and to connect with the nature around me.

again thanks for sharing because it has helped me to finally tie the loose ends in my life regarding my mother.

Peace and Love,
Nazeelah
Anita, I agree: 'It is good to see a man, and a President, have such loving words to say about his mother.'
A man who has the sensitivity to say loving words about his mother is also a man of strength.
He is living his truth and revealing his warm heart. Not always easy for a man in our society.

Anita, happy that you were also blessed with a wonderful mother! :-x

Dear Krista,

That is so wonderful that you were able to illumine and transform those things that prevented you from loving your mother! :-x

Granted this is not easy, but thanks to the love of your father and sister, 'Victory' welcomed you with open arms.

Thank you for sharing about your family, Krista!

Dear Rijuta,

Thank you for sharing these words and the video with us.

The video was very loving and very powerful with President Obama's voice describing his mother as we viewed pictures of her, her family and then President Obama with his beautiful wife, Michelle, and daughters, Malia and Sasha.

It is to my father I owe deep gratitude, love and special feelings usually reserved for mothers. And through my father and sister, I have finally come to love my mother.

Krista
