Essential Elements to Wellbeing!

Posted Jul 12, 2010 01:26 PM
Good morning my BraveHeart Sisters! I have a question for you. How WELL are you?

As an organizational psychologist and marriage and family therapist, I often work with individuals and companies in helping them identify positive ways to improve their personal and professional lives whether that means improving their productivity, handling their emotions and stress or just improving meaningful relationships. While it might be easier to address these issues if they were independent of one another, they are not. That said, it has become important that we learn the essential elements to being well.

I love research especially anything related to personal and professional development, growth and wellness. Those, like me, who love information will appreciate this new finding by Gallup, Inc. Gallup, Inc. is the leading progressive consulting firms in the US helping leaders address issues related to business, government and social improvement. I share this with you because Gallup recently completed a comprehensive study of people in more than 150 countries revealing the "five universal interconnected elements that shape people's lives: Career Wellbeing, Social Wellbeing, Financial Wellbeing, Physical Wellbeing and Community Wellbeing."

As I read through their list and recalled my own passion and background in wellness, I couldn't agree more with their findings. In addition to these findings, Gallup surveyed over 136,000 people in 132 nations and found that wealth and happiness are strongly correlated...obviously. In addition, what they also found was that "everyday positive feelings have even a stronger connection to happiness and 'holistic' wealth." That caused me to think, what are we doing everyday to create happiness in our lives that can and will ultimately create holistic wealth?

In an effort to transform the soul, heart and mind of individuals by promoting a mindset for holistic wellness, here's what I would like to suggest to you as you pursue be-ing and living well and prepare yourself for RISE:

Wellness, in it's truest form, it not just about physical health. It's about focusing on all seven dimensions of wellness (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, occupational and financial).

Steps to Being Well !

Wellness is primarily a choice and a mindset. As we all know, our thoughts are powerful. What you think about daily affects what you feel daily, which ultimately affect how you behave or live our lives. Think abundance and wellness and the rest WILL follow.

Wellness is a daily activity of the body, mind and spirit. When each part is honored and given attention to, PEACE is present!

Wellness is constant personal and professional development.

Wellness is about having an awareness to live life purposefully.

Internal wellness (peace of mind) creates wealth for life.

Wellness creates stability, confidence and peace

Wellness is a strategic plan for being and living life well.

As I'm being encouraged by other BHWs to breathe, take one step at a time, nurture and take action for myself, I hope that I inspire you to do the same.

Live Outrageously Well and see you at RISE ~ Much love,

Anita

Much thanks to you Dr. Anita:) For your comprehensive approach to wellness, peace, mind, body and spirit. As I travel my own journey of wellness I realize more and more, it's the inner truth within me that thirst to be able to see my self in that place I so desperately would like to be. No longer neglecting any part, but slowly addressing many. Which ultimately allows me to live with abundance, to be able to breath, to cultivate my strength and to prosper in a way like never before.

Their were many day's when I felt such an overwhelming amount of despair, almost to the point of failure. But the older I get, the more I learn, for the path I take. As I begin to implement the necessary steps in order to bring me to that place where I would like to be inside and out. I know with out a shadow of a doubt I will RISE becoming that women of excellence and essence. A women to whom I could feel proud to be, ME.

I appreciate your dear words of wisdom

What an inspirational and informational post, Anita. I believe I felt every word. I especially resonated with

"Wellness is primarily a choice and a mindset."

in recognition of the choice I make each day (sometimes many times in a day or even a moment) to acknowledge and accept that

I am what I am,

to embrace and love myself without conditions,

to release what does not serve me and

allow the light of Divine truth to heal ALL of me

I have been focusing on wellness exercises within the mindset of healing my Mind, Body and Spirit. Although I was conscious of these other four elements, I didn't fully realize that I could widen my focus to include Emotional, Social, Financial and Occupational Wellness. Perhaps I thought that the last four would just 'automatically' heal themselves in the process of focusing on Mind, Body and Spirit.

Thank you so much for sharing, Anita! I am encouraged and inspired to, as you said,

to breathe, take one step at a time, nurture and take action for myself,

Looking forward to seeing you at RISE!
with much love,
Lisa
I have just read your posting and it says that what we think is what we get. I have heard this my entire life and I don't think it really works. I had a great job that I loved and I did it very well, I got fired because I read an email at work. This was not the first time I had read an email and I was not the only person at work that did it, the management even admitted it. I have been out of work for over a year now and have only the money from my SS to live on. I had a great idea, at least that is what everyone said, of how to earn extra money. So far I have not earned any money. I hand make shopping bags, they are upscale and unique. They can be used when one is shopping at the Mall or other department stores were everyone is still using plastic. My bags would eliminate the need for plastic bags, they are washable and noone has one like it. I was sure these would be great and went into making them with much high hopes and just knew they would sell. Well so far nothing. This has happened pretty much with everything. At this point I am ready to stop making the bags and stop trying to find any way to make any money. At this point I believe that no matter what I attempt to do it will not work out. Now if some one else did the same thing I have been trying to do I have no doubt they would be a great success. I must have a been a really terrible person in my past life and I am getting paid back this time. I have spent my entire life taking care of others and doing for them before myself and now I am being rewarded by having nothing for the rest of my life. It is a good thing I had gastric bypass done years ago because now I don't have enough money to buy much food. I have been sick for the last 2 months but I don't have any insurance and no money so I cannot see a doctor. I am hoping I don't get septic before my Medicare kicks in in August. So much for having a good attitude and everything will work out. No way, never has and never will happen.
