Wednesday Wondering

Posted Apr 16, 2009 01:37 AM
The wonderful world of music is something I am wondering about today. I've been touched by 3 different types in this one day.

Brain entrainment is a regular part of my day. When I don't have headphones on while organizing my day in the morning listening to the binaural beats of my favorite nature mp3, I'm a little off-kilter... It is interesting that sound has a calming and focusing effect on me. What about you? Are you more centered when listening to background music?

I've hear that music really is the space between the notes, between the vocal sounds, the silence between each sound. I wonder about that sometimes, because I am so affected by the voice of a singer. It is the vocal instrument that I love most.

I was affected by vocals today: One from a woman whose Youtube debut brought 10 million views! Susan Boyle, an unknown contestant on the UK's version of American Idol, wowed Simon Cowell and company with her angelic voice.

Her dream is coming about, she is living it, because she dared to let her gift out to the world in this way. I was filled with tears as I listened to her beautiful rendition of a song I'd never heard, but knew! I was teary and inspired and lifted up and invigorated to begin anew on the path to the dreams that I am in the process of creating too.

I sometimes like just silence, but when you really listen to silence, there is a surprising amount of sound. From the rustling of wind in our eaves, birds twittering just outside the window, cars passing by, the coffee pot spluttering, the daily background of our lives has a rhythm and beat to it that is music in my work at home atmosphere. I wonder if it's the rests between notes or the notes themselves that really give me the most peace...

Another gifted voice I listened to today, that of Josh Groban, speaking of his work in Washington, DC, not as a singer but as an advocate of the Arts. It is truly a time of awakening in our world today. I wonder how it will all turn out? I know with voices like I heard today and I am able to hear every day as part of this community of vocal women, it's easy to see the good news in the world!

best for now,
Mary

Mary - thanks for sharing that inspirational video- - that brought the biggest lump to my throat and I was jumping up and down by the end - - I LOVE LES MIS - - that is my FAVORITE musical and WOW what a performance of a beautiful piece of music!

Hello Susan Boyle - - WOW - now that is a great example of a braveheart woman. Yesterday I blogged a bit about self esteem and this is a perfect example of what I am talking about - - this woman had the courage to do something she loved and dreamed of doing - even though many in the audience prejudged and even laughed at her as she walked on to stage. If she didn't believe in herself, and if she would have allowed the voices in her head to keep her locked up at home where it was safe - not even believing enough in herself to try - imagine what the world would have missed. Good for you Susan Boyle for taking a huge leap, stepping out of the comfort zone, and believing in your dreams. The world was blessed with that performance. BRAVO!

Chineme - if you are reading this you and your british buddies must hit the road and find this woman and bring her into our community - - She was awesome!

To Your Total Wellness,
Dr. Sugar
