A job is becoming a dim memory for many unemployed

"Watching savings dwindle to zero and finding yourself unemployable due to age and often skill set, can be heartbreaking." - Janet ... (Italics added.) Dear BraveHeart Janet, Thank you for sharing ... I confess I just read what is posted here and will go to the extended post in a while, but ... I did wish to comment on the above ... especially what is italicized ... I made some comments months ago about some amongst the unemployed "being unemployable" ... I think that people need to "get real" and do whatever they can to improve their skill sets and/OR learn to become independent of an employer ... Times ARE a'changing and people NEED to wake up to the changing landscape. I learn sooo much from "Fareed Zakaria GPS" and listening today to the interview he had with Thomas Friedman who wrote The World is Flat many years ago ... was very inspiring and very disturbing at the same time ... Too many of the Boomer generation and the Gen X generation came from the perspective of "borrrow and spend" ... We were too much in a hurry to built ... to travel ... to experience life as we saw on TV ... The expectations culminated in the "SubPrime" debacle ... People buying more house than they could afford ... THAT is at the root of our problems because what was once perceived as the "ATM" asset we could always turn to when we needed that extra cash for college educations and weddings and other life events ... for some ... suddenly was not there ... Many found themselves underwater - more debt than house to collateralize the debt ... Some who didn't have the core value which stated we are ALL responsible for the documents we sign ... walked away ... Hmmm ... Americans and others worldwide who did that ought to face facts .. No one forced them to sign on the dotted line and no amount of rationalizing will change that ... hard fact! Responsibility is a BASIC CORE VALUE for many of us ... but ... sadly, too many "walk away" ... Too many let others "solve the problem" ... Sad, indeed! ... So, I hope those who are UNemployed recognize that they need to find a solution ... AND ... they may need to get out of their comfort zone and LOOK and FIND what their TRUE VALUE is ... and they need to take an honest assessment and go about making themselves marketable ... and/OR employable ... but ... most definitely ... financially viable ... There ARE solutions and people need to set about DEFINING what that solution looks like for themselves ... There IS hope ... There ARE solutions ... but ... people NEED to "get real" ... Don't rationalize ... Don't play the "blame game" ... Just "get real" and "get on with it" ! ... Those who seek to solve the problems that confront them will FIND what they are looking for ... and they will indeed be better for it! ... With profound and abundant gratitude ... my deep respect ... my love and many blessings ... Aloha pume hana, Barb
