Wow! Where to start? Although folks usually suggest that the beginning is a great place to start, I promise I won't bore you with all the details of my life's passions and experiences that led me here.

What I will share is this...I am in awe of the miracle that is the human body! I never tire of reading and researching information related to how it works, how things affect how it works, and how to keep it working! I am also heartbroken and appalled at the state of health in the U.S. and around the world, especially the health of our children.

The resources and information that describe and discuss what the body needs to be healthy and to function as it was intended and designed are seemingly endless. So why is it that we are so sick? Why are our children suffering from dysfunction and disease that used to be reserved for middle-aged adults?

Have you heard that this generation of children…our children…is the first generation in the history of the U.S. that is predicted to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents? What can be done to “stop the madness” and reverse these trends? Is it even possible?

I not only believe that it is possible to reverse these trends, but also that it is possible to build a new paradigm that supports true health and wellness. I also believe that this paradigm shift has already begun.

People are starting to stand up and take notice. They are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and stressed and depressed and hate that the children in their lives are suffering the same…or worse.

They are beginning to ask the tough questions. They are beginning to realize that there is empowerment in knowledge and understanding and that it is easier and cheaper to be healthy than to be sick. There is great value in and countless benefits of being an educated consumer and taking control of one’s health and the health of one’s family.

The mission of this community is to serve as a conduit of information for Growing Healthy Kids and Sowing Healthy Habits from Toddler to Teen! It will be a place where parents, grandparents, teachers, health care providers and other caregivers to children can share their knowledge and experiences so that together we can accelerate the paradigm shift.

Our children deserve an opportunity to experience all the blessings of the long, vibrant and healthy life that awaits each of them.

Growing Healthy Kids is possible, and it begins with us!

Well said! Thank you for helping to get the word out about the health issues surrounding our children today! In this fast paced world we now live in, we often pump our kids full of processed foods and watch them get plugged into the latest techno toy. As you stated in other blogs, it is up to us to make a change! As a group of BraveHeart Women, we can change the world for our children!

To vibrant healthy futures!

Maria,
So true! and so sad. I think there are so many issues around our healthcare that are affecting the health of our children.

When I waas a child, we ran around the neighborhood until dinner time, we then all came in and ate a meal that was prepared by my mother, we ate at the table as a family. Just there so many things have changed. Most parents are too afraid of just letting their children run around like we did for fear of child preditors, we have a tendency to eat out more than ever at restaurants and the fast food ones are the worst for nutrition. We don't have the family bonds in many instances like we used to, eating around the family table. So many times we are running from one activity to another and eat on the run.

Our poor food choices, addition of preservatives and fillers, lack of nutrients in our fresh foods along with pesticides are also stacking the deck against our health as well. Doctors are giving out more drugs, parents are reaching for more over-the-counter medicines instead of letting the cold/flu/fever run its course. (Check out the Passion Parent blog post for information on alternative medicine).

The amount of data that our children receive is so much more than we were bombarded with as children. We have hundreds of more tv channels (I had three when I was younger), the internet, game boys and PSPs, and cell phones. All this input can stress our systems instead of the relaxing time spent reading a book.

I agree that people are becomming aware of all the things we have been handed off that are harmful... mostly by companies that are aware of the harm from their products in exchange for making more money on the product.... for example, partially hydrogenated oils extend the shelf life of the processed food, yet are so harmful that many countries will not allow them in their food.

I agree that consciousness is raising and this will positively affect the health of generations to come.

Look forward to hearing more from you on such an important topic!

Here's to being a Passion Parent!
