Looks like I may have to change my profile soon

Posted Feb 5, 2010 04:27 PM

In my profile I said I loved to write but I had nothing published.  In the few days since I joined Braveheart Women, I have received a reply from the Editor of a magazine to say he liked my article very much and that it will hopefully be puiblished in April.

I was thrilled! This is the first time I've actually sent anything in to a magazine, or anywhere for that matter, and it just goes to show that you can only succeed if you try.

I'm 48 yrs old and though I've written a number of things for friends and for social groups, I've never before tried my hand at an article for my line of work.  The magazine is a national monthly glossy for business managers and people in the field of occupational safety... not exactly everyone's cup of tea.  But I had something to say, advice to give, and I did it.

It was a small step that feels like a giant leap right now.

Just in case I start getting too big for my boots, I have a couple of critics (my bosses) at work who manage to shred everything I write for the company blog. But I had a whole afternoon of euphoria before the joy-vampires sucked all the good feeling from my veins.

Congratulations.... Helen

It is so important to Share what you Have to SAY; You Touch Lives.

Thank You so much for sharing.

Much Love,
Fahti

Thank you Vikinghear and Audie! I do need to learn to take criticism more gracefully so perhaps the critics are serving a higher purpose as long as I don't let them discourage me. Thank you so much for your good wishes.

Dear Helen,

Good for you to follow your inner guidance. When the critics speak out just go back to the place that you were in when you did your writing. It takes the sting away and adds comfort.

This is just a little something I have picked up along the way.

Hope it helps

with love,

Contratulations Helen! My mother always said "life begins at 50". If she was right then you have only just begun.

As for the "joy-sucking vampires"- that brought a smile to my face. It perfectly describes the negative, nay-sayers that are out there and how they knowingly or unknowingly try to drain the fun out of life.

Keep on writing!
Thanks, Claudia.

I will most certain let everyone know when the article comes out in print :)
Hello Helen:

Congratulations! There is NO TURNING BACK NOW!

I love that moment when you cross into new territory and reach a goal.

Do keep us updated so we can read your published article.

P.S. As for the joy vampires.... they are doing their job well. You are tougher, wiser and stronger because of their negativity (I'm just guessing here... but that is usually the case)

Thank you, Joyce, for those great words of encouragement. I guess we can't please everyone and I shouldn't take the critics to heart unless it's info I can use well.
Congratulations, Helen!

Awesome you! About those critics . . . well, if they have any comments worthy of your attention, that's good. If not, enjoy the ride!

I know what you mean about being kept humble. Two mornings ago, I opened an e-zine that's been publishing my articles each month for a while now. On the front page, the editor gave me and another regular public acknowledgment. Was that a high! I get emails on occasion from public readers, but this was different. As I was jumping for joy, a reader of my own newsletter opted out :0) That made me chuckle.

Trust your writer self. You have something to say and share, and there are people who are waiting for your words.
