Hello World

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” Ghandi
I have always loved this quote. Being a new member of Braveheart Women, and reading so much of what other women are doing to make this world a better place for everyone, has allowed me to learn how many different ways there are to make a difference. While I've done well over the years as a freelance writer, I realized the writing has always been directed at creating income. Creating a blog allows me to write about an issue that is important to me personally, and hopefully to others. This seems to be a great place to share and find out. You may also share with me at jadeh22@wordpress.com.

I am an animal activist and communicator. I have rescue animals in my life (horses, dogs, cats) and work hard to find homes for those I can’t take in. I’m appalled by the numbers (ranging from 2.9 to 13.5 MILLION) of animals put down in this country every year. I dont’ think that animals are “disposable items.” I applaud the people who have put their lives into rescuing/fostering the “throw-away” critters of all sizes and support them in whatever way I can. I want people to start talking about what is going on in your area and what you are doing to stop/help/publicize the abhorent actions of people who see animals as having no value – be it dog fighting, backyard breeders, horses with brands cut off being dumped in wilderness areas, race horses off the track – pick one – there are so many issues! By coming together and sharing information and ideas I believe we can ALL make a difference in the lives of these wonderful creatures who seem to love us unconditionally even when we don’t earn it or deserve it. Look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you, thank you. I, too, have rescued a few animals. In the woods next to my work, there are feral cats. Some are friendly enough to come down and visit. We provide food, water and shelter for any that will come down. A few weeks ago, I spotted a very young kitten stuck in the tree. I coached him down but he was spooked. Later in the day, the same kitten got stuck in a knot hole in a dead tree. We got him out and I brought him home. He is now my Jelly Bean. So now I have 3 cats and two dogs. all rescues. If I could afford it, I would have as many as I could. I could be the 'crazy cat lady' very easily! Thank you again for the beautiful post.
Jade, it makes my heart sing, when I "meet" someone like you,who honours all living beings.I know, that all that God created has value and I cannot understand, when animals are thought of as being nothing.
I always had dogs.I still remember my first dog, when I was about 7 or so.I cried so much when she died,we were inseparable.
I have three dogs at the moment, all rescues, used to have up to 5,because I cannot see a dog without a home. When I have a bigger home I will take in more.
My dogs are my angels and teachers. It is an honour to have them in my life.
We have an online "rescue" group of friends and their friends, etc, who help place dogs.Just by forwarding the emails,we have helped several dogs.
I always believe, that by the way people treat and think
of animals ,they show you the depth of their soul and compassion.
Thank you for being part of our community and for bringing awareness to the importance of loving and treating our animals with love and respect.

I applaud you. My husband has been training dog, helping with foster and rescue groups for 25 years.

Dogs are our life. We have 6 dogs and 1 cat- all rescues that no one else wanted. They are truly the joys of our life.

Keep up the good work.

p.s. do you know Anita Curtis, the animal communicator in Pennsylvania? I've used her a number of times and each time the reading has been right on!
I would agree with Ghandi and you, Jade. Shamans have known for centuries that animals are guides to us humans.

I love the quote! I too love animals. To date I have 8 dogs & 3 parrots. The dogs just keep finding their way to me through a network of people. Every time I accept a new one I say that is all and then another comes my way!
I also had two beautiful cats that I rescued and hand fed - they have disappeared and I fear that they have been caught and disposed of. We have done everthing we could to locate them and my heart is very heavy. They were the sweetest things and I loved them dearly.
Several of my dogs have communicated to us when there was a crises. My invalid mother fell in her bedroom and broke her leg. We did not hear her (this was in the middle of the night) and her little dog(who never left her side) actually came into our bedroom on my side of the bed and barked until I got up to see what was the matter.
We also had a small chihuahua that was brain damaged and we could not locate her when we arrived home. My little yorkie was frantically barking and running to a corner behind a couch and sadly there was poke-e-mon who had died while we were gone.
Now you cannot tell me that dogs don't communicate!!
I feel such sadness when I see the commercials on TV about the abandoned animals. Their eyes say it all!
God bless you and all you do!
