A Brain in Your Heart?

Posted May 3, 2009 11:30 AM
The following article talks about the scientific evidence that the human heart has its' own intelligence. It also speaks to all the implications for us and especially our children.

Approach with and open mind, and especially, an open heart.
This is a excerpt from the interview, the link to the entire piece is below.

An Interview with JOSEPH CHILTON PEARCE
by Chris Mercogliano and Kim Debus
from JOURNAL OF FAMILY LIFE magazine, Vol. 5 #1 1999

"The idea that we can think with our hearts is no longer just a metaphor, but is, in fact, a very real phenomenon. We now know this because the combined research of two or three fields is proving that the heart is the major center of intelligence in human beings. Molecular biologists have discovered that the heart is the body's most important endocrine gland. In response to our experience of the world, it produces and releases a major hormone, ANF - which stands for Atriol Neuriatic Factor - that profoundly effects every operation in the limbic structure, or what we refer to as the "emotional brain." This includes the hippocampal area where memory and learning take place, and also the control centers for the entire hormonal system. And neurocardiologist have found that 60 to 65% of the cells of the heart are actually neural cells, not muscle cells as was previously believed. They are identical to the neural cells in the brain, operating through the same connecting links called ganglia, with the same axonal anddendritic connections that take place in the brain, as well as through the very same kinds of neurotransmitters found in the brain."

We've known that a stressed brain often means a racing heartbeat, a calm and at peace brain means a slower beat, but now there is more to it than adrenaline. When I hear something very sad I feel it and my comment is usually always that it hurts my heart. How interesting to find out the scientific facts. Thanks for this.
Hi Kathy,

I love Joseph Chilton Pearce's work - thanks for the reminder.

Awesome...thanks for sharing....just confirms the importance of having love in our hearts...and exercising that emotion of love....for ourselves first and extending as far and wide to as many as possible. It is obviously (now even scientifically proven) essential to our overall well being. Great stuff....thanks again!!
Yes Yes Yes I truly believe we have a brain in our hearts. Have you heard of Dr.Bruce Lipton? He has lectures on You Tube that are wonderful. This is so very interesting to me. I have been interested in this area for awhile and have found different modalities to heal heart pain. The most recent is The Emotion Code by Dr. Bradley Nelson. His method is so easy to learn and very effective. Also I love the Healing Codes discovered by Dr Alex Loyd. Thank you for posting this article. I had not heard of Joseph Pearce. I will be looking for more from him. Debbie/Springtime
Kathy, lots of thanks for posting this article. I absolutely love to read about new scientific discoveries like this one. It shows the importance of shrinking our egoic mind so that real intelligence in the soul and heart can expand!

You had me with the title. Wow.. Thank you for sharing.
No wonder my heart literally hurts when I have a serious problem (fight, disagreement etc.) with my boyfriend... and it feels light and free and open when things are going well (which is most of the time!). Thank you!

Jarmila

Wow, Kathy, thanks so much for such a rich article!

So much information on so many vital areas for kids and adults!

It reminded me that Virginia Satir said "We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth."

Hi Kathy,

thank you for sharing your wonderful post.

I propose we take our consciousness down to our heart chakra and watch ourselves, our whole world through the eyes of the heart. What would then our views and beliefs be like ? We can only try it for ourselves and see what happens.

Much joy to you,

Ruža
