Setting Intentions...One Weave at a Time

Posted Jul 22, 2011 10:42 AM
Every morning I engage in a ritual, whereby I set my intentions for the day by braiding my hair. My hair is very short but I grew a thin braid on the left side of my head which is now 10 inches long. As I weave, I recite an intention for the day. So I might say, "Peace...Love,...Happiness...Organized. ..Self loving...Fun...Wisdom...Authentic," which are examples of how I want my day to unfold.

I started doing this about five years ago and I watched how my life began to change. At the time, I felt like I was simply going through the motions of life...Working, care taking, housework, feeling unloved and wondering ....Is this all there is to life? My needs were unmet and I was unhappy.

So, I started to recite my intentions with the word, "happiness." I recognized that I deserved to be happy but didn't have the "specifics"...Within a year, I went through some "endings" and shortly thereafter, entered a committed relationship with the love of my life, and have never been happier!

Being conscious of our true needs and trusting that the Universe will provide for us, allows us remain in a state of love, not fear. The Universe works for us and never against us. It continues to provide opportunities to move us to the home of the heart, where we can remember who we are and who we came here to be.

With peace, love, and joy,

Nice blog, Kathleen!

So that's the symbolism behind the braid.
