Laid Off - Now What ...How Do You Feel?

How Do You Feel?

Being laid off is not just a financial trauma, it is also a mental, emotional and physical trauma.  With that being said, the most helpful approach to regaining control of your life is to take a well balanced approach to recovery.

The first step to making a recovery after being laid off is to “STOP,” get in the moment, forget about what is happening around you and concentrate on what is happening in you.   How do you feel about being laid off?   What does it really mean?  Do you feel that this is the end or a new beginning for you?  Are you sad about being laid off or are you happy because you hated your job?  Are you resentful or are you just numb? Are your fearful or do you have and understanding that it will be all right?  Are you anxious or are you indifferent about the whole thing, realizing you are good at what you do and you can and will find another way to earn a prosperous living using your skills, experience and education.   Are you in shock or are you apathetic about it?  These are some questions you need to ask yourself and you should answer them honestly.

It is normal to have a healthy concern about paying your bills or maintaining your life style.  You will miss your coworkers and the fulfillment of performing your work, however, it is also good to understand this too shall pass and you will make new friends, continue to do fulfilling work even if it is in a new location or with a new employer.  This is only a challenge that you are more than able to overcome.
