Hello... Is There Anybody in There? Just Nod If You Can Hear Me: part 1

Posted Feb 9, 2009 06:06 PM

What’s the conversation you are having with yourself? You know the one, that voice in your head that speaks to you with the “taped message recordings”... the voice telling/stating to you, over and over, the same declarations. The voice that can, and most likely has, lead you to anxiety, self doubt, fear, depression, anger, sadness, and perhaps (in the end) loneliness.

Shhh…listen... Yeah... that’s the one...The Narrator-Teller of Tales…the one that accompanies you day in, day out.

What is that voice in your head saying to you right now? Perhaps it says, “Take no notice of what this Lesley person is saying”...” Skip on to the next blog”... “This would be a good time start a load of laundry”...

Come close, yes a little closer... let me tell you a secret. There was a time, not so long ago, when I had not even, EVER, stopped to reflect on the fact that this, what I now call The Narrator – Teller of Tales, voice-in-my-head thingy was not ME!

This revelation was put before me in a just think about this manner by a mentor in my life. “Consider that the voice in your head is not you, who you truly are.” At first I didn't get it. The Narrator had kicked in and swiftly moved to a defensive play. He began by charming me in a seductive voice, and cajoling me to dismiss my mentor out of hand. Then I felt a sudden shock, like lightening! It started in my chest and shot both ways, making my toes curl and my hair stand on end simultaneously.

One of life’s defining moments, to be sure. I had “ a whack upside the head” awareness that it was the man-behind-the-curtain syndrome…The Narrator- Teller of Tales…was indeed just as the Wizard of OZ, seemly all knowing and powerful, hijacking my thoughts and worst of all, masquerading as me!

Think about it, be honest with yourself. Are you in “command of your own ship"...are you being the true you..your authentic self, or is there a Narrator voice in your head manipulating the levers of sounds and light in your life??

Off with you for now...go away and think about it.

Until we meet again….

Bravo Lesley!

There is a song I like to hear everytime that "voice" gets noisy and obnoxious, it's called "I'm Gonna Take That Mountain" by Reba McIntyre. It is a great song to remind me not to let anything slow me down. ;)
Dearest Lesley,

I can releate to the "VOICE" in the head that speaks to YOU...

As a matter of fact, TODAY was the DAY I said, “NO" to that VOICE and "YES” to Conquering a Fear I had with the Mountain!

Hello Lesley,

You are so right.. how often have we each listened to a voice inside of us that really is not us..???

And how liberating it is when we discover that we can in fact shut out the fake and listen to our deeper truer self.

Thank you for sharing...
