beach family.jpg"The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof." Richard Bach, "Illusions"

Having grown up in a semi-dysfunctional home, I always thought this was a wonderful quote. I still love it, because so many of my Ohana, or family, are not blood related.

Now raising my child in an environment where we are living Authentically, there seems something lacking... the family that lives authentically has a bond that is both the bond of blood and the bond of respect & joy. That is what I have been desiring since I was quite young.

I am blessed!

Authentic Family Living is an inspired action taken by a dear friend of mine, Rain Fordyce, after being informed that she did not "FIT" into the group with the label "Unschooler" that she had called herself for years..... what did that mean? What was she then? Who made that rule for the LABEL?! Why was that rule (there are no rules) made??? (she has a non-negotiable in their family that everyone brushes their teeth! that goes against the RULE-- there are no rules!).

After many conversations, Rain and I realized there are many people ready to step away from the labels. We decided to take Authentic Family Living to the next level--- Bust outta the Box! Bust through the labels we use to feel comfortable, realize the limitations (and benefits!) and journey on, creating the life that feels right for us RIGHT NOW. It may change tomorrow- and hey, that's OK. It's a journey!

We are learning, creating, growing... and along the way, we find we could have done things a little different... sometimes A LOT different. But, we always have the right to readjust and move forward. AND, when we are sharing our journey with others, we ALL benefit from the experience gained along the way! How cool is that!

I imagine, I intend to surround ourselves with like-minded parents who respect that we are all on a journey. Some similarities and many differences.... I bet we find our similarities will always be more. I am so excited to create a place with you where parents can explore possibilities, ideas, inspirations and OOPses. Where we can support each other in the frustrations and celebrate in the joys!

Rain, thank you for realizing you no longer need the labels to define your family. You are an inspiration and joy! I love being your friend, you stretch me to areas I may not have discovered... at least for a long while!

The sandbox is open! Let's play!
