Parenting About Your Child, the Internet and Sexual Predators

I am not one to watch TV, but tonight I switched on Oprah (who knew she was on at midnight!?). The program was about children, the internet and sexual predators. I believe what you focus on is what you attract, so most times I would turn a program like this off. Tonight I watched off and on as I worked.

I want to share with you why I believe I stayed with the program. It was to help Oprah spread the word! The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act was passed on July 25, 2006—20 years after Adam Walsh's abduction. The act established a National Sex Offender Registry law. This legislation was passed because so many Passion Parents called or wrote in to their state representatives.

Recent news reports reveal most states will not be in compliance with the law by the upcoming July 2009 deadline due to funding issues. If senators and state representatives don't comply with and fully fund the act, it will expire.
