January 11th - are your intentions and resolutions right on track leading you to self empowerment or are they already out the door? Or, perhaps you have decided to wait till Monday morning to get started?
Either way, there is no right or wrong - it is not about doing guilt. I believe people are well intentioned and they do the best they can given their circumstances. However, you can certainly do things to stack the deck in your favor, rather than spend your time judging yourself harshly.
"Fear melts when you take action towards a goal you really want." Robert Allen
Over the years I have come to realize that often because of the way the intentions are set for the New Year, they have little chance of survival.
First of all, you must really know what you desire and make a commitment to achieve it. Clarity actually comes along after commitment. When we hold off truly committing because we are waiting for clarity - we will rarely find that clarity. The Universe does not respond favorably to a lack of decision and a lack of commitment. Once the commitment is truly made, circumstances, events and people will flow into our life to assist us along.
It is also crucial to set an intention that is meaningful to you - not to your significant other - not to your family and friends - but something that appeals to you - that makes your heart sing.
Secondly, intentions can fail due to their size. The new habit that is desired or the goal that is set is often large, and quickly appears overwhelming once the daily routine is back in force.
If you are already feeling overwhelmed, it might serve you well to consider breaking your intention down into manageable chunks. Break a larger desire into parts where you can get something done in 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 6 months and then 12 months.
Make sure you know how you will recognize if your intention is on its way to being achieved. What will be the sign posts? And, allow yourself the opportunity to celebrate the small wins along the way. Acknowledge your efforts.
Sometimes the lack of desired results is due to setting too many intentions at once - and then you get just plain overworked and tired. Your enthusiasm starts to vanish.
To help you stay focused and disciplined - because after all - getting results requires self discipline - take the time before going to bed, to write down 5 tasks in order of priority, that need doing the next day. Then when you get up - start doing what is on that list. Do not move on to number two till number one is done.At the end of the day, whatever is not accomplished needs to be first on the list for the next day.
"How am I going to live today in order to create the tomorrow I'm committed to?" Anthony Robins
The last tip that I will leave you with is - write down your intentions on small cards and carry these with you or keep them where you will see them. Pull them out several times a day and read them.
