Are You Making Space For Silence?

Posted Feb 23, 2009 09:25 PM
Welcome to another brand new week...a good time to spend a few minutes in silence - either to de-stress, to re-energize, or even better gain clarity.

Here in central Canada - the cold weather is hanging on and though I am looking forward to spring with warmer weather - there is a wonderful stillness and silence that is present first thing in the dark morning as I step out, especially after a fresh snow or a very cold night.

A few moments of Silence can serve us well especially at this time, when people are experiencing more uncertainty and stress in the world than ever before.

"Silence is a pregnant state out of which can emerge worlds of possibility we have no hope of knowing so long as our lives are overfilled with words and noise."

People can actually live their entire lives today without a moment's peace. Sometimes the quiet actually feels more uncomfortable than the noise - we are not quite sure what to do with it.

Just like sleep refreshes the body, I believe silence cleanses the mind. Even my own un-mastered practice of silence is teaching me that knowing my own truth cannot come to me and penetrate the superficial layers of reality - that in fact I need silence to make that happen.

A regular practice of spending a few minutes in silence can actually be life giving. It will let you recognize how full of noise your life really is and what the source of that noise is. Try shutting off the TV, the radio, the computer, the cell phone - the noise you actually have control over.

By spending 10-15 minutes twice a day in silence, you will change your day, and your life. I am confident you will find like others who have done so, that you can access an inner peace, more creativity, and even inner healing.

Have a wonderful week,

Oh yes Lynette..there in lies the rub..how to stop long enough....when everything else is pulling and pushing at us?

One step at a time...one day at a time!

Excellent piece...made me really think!
