Self Improvement Starts With Self Acceptance

Posted Jan 27, 2009 05:40 PM
"No amount of self improvement will make up for a lack of self acceptance." Robert Holden

How true this quote is. We can work on improving ourselves as long as we want and attend all the personal development seminars that are out there, however if we do not accept ourselves for who we are, no amount of personal growth will be able to bring us the joy, fulfillment, and success that we are seeking.

Unless we learn to feel worthy and deserving of the best life has to offer it cannot come to us - we will subconsciously sabotage ourselves. We need to let go of fears, self doubt and self criticism. It is also important to learn to relax and enjoy life.

Personal development is available to help us shed limiting beliefs and maximize our potential. However, it is crucial to understand that you are not flawed and broken. Each one of us is whole and complete as we are... we have simply forgotten that.

Perhaps it was our upbringing and our cultural beliefs, perhaps it was our lack of success (as defined by ourself) along the way or perhaps we had a rough start in life and we were led to believe that we were somehow flawed. Know that you are not flawed.

You may have made decisions in the past that were not right for you and now you are seeing the results. The circumstances you are currently experiencing are simply a result of past thoughts and behaviours. However, your past does not need to equal your future. You can choose differently - right now! Simply take responsibility for your decisions and actions.

The first decision being the decision to accept yourself as you are!

Hi Lynette, I will never forget our conversation in California while we were taping "Inspiration In Action" Infomercial. It was as inspirational as this blog is now. Keep up the powerful sharing with others.

Hi Lynette,

Yes, How true! We can do all the personal development out there, but it must begin at the beginning....who we are...and gosh darn it...I'm good enough....Have you ever seen "Stuart Smalley Saves his Family" with Al Franken? I'm laughing now...it just came to mind...it is funny and real. I am also thinking of something Lisa Nichols said in her interview "my spirit is not available to be broken"........we are whole...right now...and cannot be broken unless we allow ourselves to be...

Thanks for reminding me to accept myself...even though I was on the phone with a technician today and didnt even have the knowledge to explain my problem....I accepted the level of knowledge I had, asked questions, and raised my level a little bit today. If I had sat there and thought I can't do this, I'll never do this,blahblahblah....no matter what kind of help I got....i wouldnt have been open enough to learn anything.

Cheers Lynette,

Debra
