This is an image I painted with acrylics. The hair in the painting is a compilation of several women I have seen. My Mama, a friend of mine named Vada, a girl behind the hotel counter in Costa Rica and a photo of a woman sent to me by a friend of mine.
When I first finished the blue black hair, I painted her eyes big and mesmerizing like the girl behind the counter who was such a great girl to try to talk to. She couldn't speak English and I couldn't speak Spanish, but we both could use our hands to try to communicate. She tried so hard and the day I left she cried. Such a sweetheart. Well, she had long, blue-black hair and big brown eyes. When I tried to do the image's eyes brown, it didn't work. I kept working with them until I decided to do them the same blue that was in the highlights of the hair.
When I finished painting them and stood back to look at the piece, suddenly I saw my Mama's eyes staring back at me. She is not for sale. She hangs in my dining room where I can smile at her all the time.
