“Metaphysics is a volatile word. It provides the spark for many flames. The flame of anger for those who imagine that it attacks their beliefs. The flame of excitement for those embarking on the journey toward self-knowledge. The flame of distraction for those who use it as a badge to mark them as different and somehow special.
Metaphysics has been used to denote poetry that has likewise been described as “highly intellectual imagery”. It has been used as a derogatory term. Yet, it is none of those things. The word itself simply means beyond [meta] the physical or external world [physics]. To assume its meaning without an understanding of the context in which it is used is a grave injustice. To react to it as a dogma is likewise in error.
Metaphysics in the context of the Metaphysical Minute is not a dogma. It is an approach to enlightenment or self-knowledge that reaches beyond the idea that it is what we do that is important. Rather it is who we are in the quietness of our minds. It is an approach that searches always for the path that creates healing within one’s soul. It is an approach that seeks to shift the flow of energy from negative views of the world. It seeks to find solutions that serve all. It is an approach that accepts that all souls have an expression that is appropriate for them and honors their right to choose their path.
Metaphysics cannot be pigeon-holed as a set ideology. It does not exist in that form. It is a fluid and wondrous approach that allows you and me to explore the same waters without prejudice or rules and receive from them the substance we need for our individual spiritual growth. Like the ocean, it is forever changing and forever constant. Universal laws always apply, but it is our use of them that changes. It is our use of them that reflects our spiritual growth. Unless we go beyond the physical to find the intimate connection that exists between our state of being and that which we call God, Source, Allah, or simply Creator, we cannot grow in spirit.”
