au·to·mat·ic (ô t -m t k) adj. Acting or operating in a manner essentially independent of external influence or control We’re almost there. If you’ll do today what you started doing January 6th, or if you just won’t do what you stopped doing January 6th, then you’ve almost got your habit under control. YOUR control.
If you’ve been working to breaking a habit, then you fully appreciate the idea of being free from an external influence! When I was enslaved to nicotine it had me completely under its control – total domination. My every waking thought (and much of my dreamlife) was consumed with tobacco. Buying it, using it, ruing it.
If you’ve been working to make a habit then whatever it is you started doing over and over and over is already becoming second nature – automatic.
How fun it is when something is so much a part of us we no longer invest a lot of energy in the doing of it, it just happens automatically, or as I like to say, automagically.
There is a certain degree of magic involved with mastering a new program or conquering a bad habit -- along with some effort, some guts, and some glory, MAGIC!
The finish line is in sight! Come on, let’s sing a few bars of the Pointer Sisters together: “It’s totally automatic…”
Soldier on!
