“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy is a proverb. It means that without time off from work, a person becomes both bored and boring” – Wikipedia -- As I add more and more tours around the sun to my life experience, the more determined I am to grow wise and strong, but
never up.
A friend scolds me whenever I use the words “I
used to have a lot of fun….” Unless pre-empted by height, weight, other physical restrictions or legislation, there is nothing fun we used to do that we can’t do now.
Which is why, this past beautiful Saturday afternoon I was preparing my blog for today and boiling water. Don’t start. No, I don’t have to boil water to write my blogs, that’s not my point at all!
My point is I had been a responsible citizen all day. I’d taken my vitamins, said my prayers, performed household chores, cleaned the kitchen, started laundry, eyeballed my checkbook, eaten within healthy parameters, exercised, and consumed three 8 ounce glasses of water. (I’ll pause here to let the riotous clapping subside.)
So at last, with all the To-Dos, to-done, I went into the kitchen and dyed Easter eggs. Not because I had to, not because I was supposed to, and not even because hard-boiled eggs are an excellent high protein go-to food to keep on hand.
I colored eggs because it’s fun.
And silly.
And necessary.
I don’t know Jack about Jack, but know this Jane goes stark raving mad without fun in her life. And sometimes, you have to depend on yourself to go stir some up.
Ooooh, Wheeeeee.... What shall we stir up today?
Soldier on!
