When you focus on the negative side of things and allow yourself to remain in that pessimistic rut, you are staring at the proverbial "Closed Door". You are not moving forward or changing your situation. Quite possibly you are not going anywhere at all, and prolonging the pain and agony of the situation.
Anytime we blame others and complain about our situation, we are choosing to be a victim, When I choose the victim role I am learning that I place myself in an ineffective and weak position. I have also been learning that its virtually impossible to allow incredible miracles to enter my life when I choose to remain in this negative state. So....when I realize I am staring at a closed door, I am learning to consciously step away from it!
Consciously shifting my thoughts and focusing on the positive side of my situation, is not always the easiest task. However, if I dig deep enough I do find the positive. In finding the positive, I automatically walk away from the closed door and begin noticing all the incredible doors open all around me.
The open doors are the doors of opportunity. What's even more incredible is that the "open doors" have always been there. I was just too busy focusing on the closed doors to notice them...
Think about all the areas or situations in your life that you are unhappy about, complain about and wish were different. Write them down. You are staring at a closed door in each of these areas. It is time to step away from those closed doors. It is time to shift your thoughts and focus on the positive side of every situation. Next to each statement that you wrote down ask yourself the following questions...
1) How can I view this situation differently and in a positive way?
2) What do I really want? (framing the question this way allows for ownership of what you want and takes the focus off what you don't want)
3) What opportunities are there around me right now that will help me achieve what I really want in life?
After you have written down your answers, you will see a list of statements that can become a statement of intention that describes what you want to achieve.
By doing this exercise you have shifted your thoughts about the situation and are focusing on what you want to achieve. This shift opens your awareness to the many opportunities all around you. You may be shocked at how many opportunities are right in front of you. So...once you see the open door...move towards it.....and step through!
