Veronica Stellas Is one of our members and this is a story she shared with us about, how she found her long lost family with Imperfect Action!

I took imperfect action when I was 18 years old to find my father who I did not see for 17 years. This was 27 years ago! I didn’t know were to begin looking because my father was from Greece. I had never been to Greece. I was a year old when my mother divorced my father. As a child, I remember praying and crying myself to sleep at night, praying that my father would come for me. I also said the same prays for my grandparents (my father’s parents).

My desire to know my father and my grandparents grew to be my only desire! At 18, I decided to search for my father. I knew that he was born in Syros, Greece which is a very small Island near Turkey. So, I decided to take action and call Syros to hunt for my father. Of course, I quickly understood that I could not understand the language and took action to get an operator to translate for me. I called everyone that had the name “Stellas” living on that Island until I reached someone that said they didn’t know where my father was but they did know my Grandmother, “Veronica Stellas”, (we have the same name). The person on the phone said if you call back in one hour, I will have your Grandmother at my house so that you can speak to her. After one hour, I called and sure enough my Grandmother was there. I had someone translate that I was looking to find my father and my grandmother informed me that my father lived in Astoria, NY.

It was the first time that I had connected with my Grandmother and all I could understand that she said was “I LOVE YOU”. From that conversation and my imperfect action to search for my father, I was able to find him a few days after that conversation with my grandmother. The next day after connecting with my father, he was at my home in Georgia to see me for the first time in 17 years. I spent the next 15 years sharing my life with my father who I loved deeply until his death 12 years ago. It was the most rewarding imperfect action that I have ever taken.

In addition, I took action to travel to Greece by myself to meet my Grandparents and other family (Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins). It was an incredible experience. Those relationships and experiences changed my life forever, towards the better. I found a family that loved me dearly. I have been able to travel to Greece every 2 or 3 years for vacation to see my father’s sisters and brother, as well as, their children (my cousins). If I didn’t take that imperfect action to find my father… my life would have been very empty without knowing their love.

When things go wrong as they sometimes will; when the road you’re trudging seems all uphill.

When the funds are low, and the debts are high…

And you want to smile, but have to sigh…

When care is pressing you down a bit - Rest if you must, but do not quit!

Life is strange with its twists and turns; as every one of us sometimes learns.

And many a failure turns about, when he might have won had he stuck it out.

Don’t give up thought the pace seems slow- You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out; the silver tint of the clouds of doubt.

And you never can tell how close you are; it may be near when it seems so far;

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit; it’s when things seem worst that you must not quit!

In 1908, Henry Ford produced the famous Model T. and by 1918 half of all automobiles in the U.S. were Model T.

henry_ford_001

Two years later General Motor and two other automobile makers came out with cars that offer a variety of colors and added features. Henry Ford was so confident with his company’s position in the automobile industry that he refused to change his motto of providing affordable vehicles. Ford insisted on offering only black and with limited features in order to keep the cost down.

As a result Ford lost his number one spot. Then Henry Ford closed down the factory to regroup. A couple months later Ford open up shop again and he launched Model A and the V-8 motors. Henry Ford was once again the number one automobile maker in America.

Henry Ford is one of world best known entrepreneur. His success wasn’t because he never made mistakes. In fact all successful people had to have their share of mistakes. So if we let our fear of making mistake stops us from doing, than we will never find out what we could have achieved.

“Even a mistake may turn out to be the one thing necessary to a worthwhile achievement.” ~ Henry Ford

You don’t have to be perfect to be successful. You just need to get started!

Have you ever heard people say, “I used to have no fear and I took risk?” or “I used to be spontaneous and life was fun!” How about this one? “I used to be happier.”

child20playing20by20hector20rioWho is this “used to be” person? What happen to that person? Life happened to them? Some of us are fortunate enough that we are still that person with no fear, spontaneous and happy…

But others had been conditioned throughout their lives; that life is full of things to be afraid of, risk equal lost. Everything they do must be planned out. Happiness is for the young and free, adult got responsibility!  You see these people had forgotten what it feels like to have their heart pound with excitement and their spirit soars! They have allowed life to deplete their passion. Believe me when I tell you “Life will beat your passion out of you, if you let it!” So, don’t EVER let that happen.

Get back in touch with the person you used to be. The person who would look at a situation with the eyes of possibility and not the eyes of fears. The person who will say “Yes, to life and ask Why not”? The person that have time for happiness… You see, that is the real you, the ‘You’ before life done a number on you.

Wouldn’t you want to show up every day in the real you? Leave your baggage of history behind, everyday is a fresh new day. It don’t matter what happen the last 10, or 20 years. Be willing to set yourself free from you history. Today is a new day, choose to show up in the real you? All it takes if for you to be willing to start.

What can we learn from a 9 months old?

What makes a successful person?

Is it their education? Is it their intelligent? Is it because they come from a wealthy family? Is it because they are lucky? Is it because they are well connected to the right people?

Key

Not all successful entrepreneurs have a great education, take Henry Ford for example; the founder of Ford Motor Company.  Henry dropped out of school at the age of seventeen.

I am sure all of successful people are Intelligent. But I would boldly guess that very few of them are genius.

No, not all of them came from a wealthy family. Take Martha Stewart she was born in a middle class family.  Yet, that didn’t stop her from building her empire.

Thomas Edison the inventor of the light bulb. He tried over two thousand times before he finally got a working light bulb. So, it wasn’t luck for him.

What about if you were born into slavery and orphaned at the age of seven like Madam Walker; the first self made female millionaire in America. She got her start by selling her own hair product door to door back in 1900’s. I would say most likely Walker wasn’t well connected to start with.

So what is it? What is the key to their success? The answer may be simpler than you think. Although some successful people might have the education, is a genius, came from wealthy home, have the best luck or well connected with the right people. In reality most successful people got their success without all of the above.

The real key to it all is that they take action! They are the doer! The money is in the doing! The success is in the doing… Despite what popular believes; knowledge is not the key. If you think about it, anyone of us can pick up the medical books, law books but that doesn’t make us doctors or lawyers. It is the doing that make one a doctor or lawyer.

So whatever your heart desires, don’t sit on the side line. You have got to put Action into it. You have got to do it. The Money, the payout…is all in the doing!

None of us are kids any more, so we all know about the facts of life. One of the fact is - Life is not peaches and cream every day, so from time to time life is going to get tough.

Personally I believe that is the universe’s way to give us a chance to show what we are made of? So whenever you are facing a challenge, you need to trust that it is in your best interest to face it head on. Have faith that it is within your ability to handle it. Even though you might not have the answer and that is Okay. It is a challenge so; therefore, it is meant for you to figure it out as you go along.

When I started my computer company, the first big deal I sold. I had no money to buy the inventory for the project, and I did not know how to go about doing that project. None the less, I close the deal first. I took all my money including my mortgage to fund the project, I hired sub contractor with the skill to do the job. Come to think of it, I risked my mortgage for deals quite a few times in the beginning in order to get my start.

The great explorer Christopher Columbus; not only did he discover America. Moreover, he also proved the rounded shape of the earth. Christopher Columbus must have faced a lot of challenge and done a lot of figure it out as he was going along.

The world famous Bill Gate who got his big starts because he sold Dos; a product that he did not even have. He had to figure out how he was going get his hands on Dos, so he can fill the biggest order of his life.

These people set off to do things that they have no idea how it is going to be. All they know is the end result they seek. I knew I wanted my business to take off. I have decided to do this computer business and failure was not an option. Christopher Columbus wants to prove that the world is rounded. At the time the longest trip was 30 days in the ocean; his trip would have to be much longer than that. He just got started and figures it out as he goes. Bill Gate knew he wanted that deal with IBM, so he closes the deal first. Then he worries about filling the order.

So, I guess when the going gets tough the tough get going… That is how you will find out “What you are made of?”

In 2004 Brian Boyle was a high school graduate, like most young man his age. Brian has goals, his 3 goals were to go to college, swim on the team, and compete in an ironman triathlon one day.  A month after graduation, on his way home from swimming practice. Brian was involved in a near fatal car accident with a dump truck.

In a blink of an eye Brian’s heart was ripped across his chest, his ribs/clavicle/pelvis were shattered. His lungs collapsed, his kidneys and liver failed. He lost his spleen and gallbladder and lost 60% of his blood, severe nerve damage to his left shoulder. Brian was in a coma, on life support for over two months and he died eight times while he was in the intensive care unit.

No one knows if Brian would walk again due to all the extreme injuries and his shattered pelvis. His future did not look promising. Just like his body, his dreams were shattered. But, Brian didn’t give up!

After the coma, Brian underwent 14 operations, 36 blood transfusions, 13 plasma treatments, he lost a total of 100 pounds and he went to rehabilitation center; where he learn how to talk, eat, walk, shower, and live independently again.

After that agonizing experience, Brian spends a few months in a wheelchair. Brian began to take baby steps to walk on his own. It was a miracle that he could walk again, but Brian wanted to prove the doctors wrong and not only walk, but RUN! After he accomplished that, he wanted to get back in the pool again. After a few lung tests, Brian was able to go in the pool a little bit each week.

After a few months of swimming with his training partner, Brian decided that he was not going to let his injuries stop him from living his dream. Six months after that Brian went to St. Mary’s College where he joined the swim team. And in 2007 Brian Boyle competed in his first Ironman World Championship.

Brian Boyle’s story is about recovery and comeback; he proofs that miracle do happen. Never give up and trust that you can do anything!

Back in October 2008 I wrote a blog post called “What is your theme song?”

It was about if we all have a theme song that embodies the best of us. And whenever we get lost emotionally or spiritually we can simply just play our theme song, and it will remind us who we are, and what we are about. That would be the easiest inspirational thing any one of us can do, is to play our song.

Hugo & Roxanne from Believe Achieve  wrote, “ Our lyrics would go something like this….”Believe Achieve….Believe in the Beauty of Your Dreams….Discover Your True Potential….Live a Life of Pure Happiness….Today is the Beginning of Your New Life….”

CW from Fabulous at 30,40, 50 and Beyond rewrote “Through The Years” by Kenny Rogers.

I can’t remember when I lost my drive
My will to really strive
In all I meant to do

I swear
I’ve been through everything there is
I can’t remember anything I missed
I can’t remember when it was I killed my dreams of youth

Through the years
I never got things done
I watched the world go on
I wandered round and round and round and round…..

Agnes said, “ TESTIFY”

All the colours of a rainbow
All the voices of the wind
Every dream that reaches out
That reaches out to find where love begins
Every word of every story
Every star in every sky
Every corner of Creation
Lives to testify…

Todd Jordan from The Broad Brush said, Amazing Grace.

For me is our song “Imperfect Action!”

What is your song? Would you write you own? What would it say? Share with us?

Claudia Carlet Is one of our member and this is a story she shared with us about, how she found her inner voice with Imperfect Action!

Here’s a story I want to share with you all and it involves you Giovanna as my inspiration to take action. I work in an office; a lot of my work is done via emails to customers and colleagues. I like the company I work for and the people I work with but something was amiss. I used to find my job quite impersonal and this caused me unhappiness. I like to know myself as being a positive, enthusiastic, witty, lively person but I felt blocked in the expression of my personality. THEN I came across Giovanna’s website and the ‘ Imperfect action is better than no action’ philosophy. As i repeated this sentence in my mind over and over again something ‘clicked’ in me and suddenly the decision ‘Yes that is what I am going to do from now on, I am going to follow my inner voice, let my personality shine, be more spontaneous no matter what’. From that day I started to be more personal in my relationships, I started to be my true self. My relationships with my customers and colleagues are much more satisfying, positive and productive. I have had since a new flow of energy and much more self-confidence and initiative because I have allowed my true self to come forth, to shine. I have believed in myself through what it seemed initially an Imperfect action. I didn’t know at that time if I was going to be successful with my new approach…Well guess what? I am so proud of my imperfect action and of loving myself just the way I am. By being who you really are you can never go wrong.

Here are a few that have served me well over the years!imperfect-action-12

“I think there is something, more important than believing: Action! The world is full of dreamers, there aren’t enough who will move ahead and begin to take concrete steps to actualize their vision.” ~ W. Clement Stone

“Success will never be a big step in the future, success is a small step taken just now.” ~ Jonatan Martensson

“Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.” ~ Napoleon Hill

“You see, in life, lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take action.” ~ Anthony Robbins

America’s first “self-made” female millionaire—Madam C.J. Walker, she said, “I got my start by giving myself a start.” Madam Walker was not born into riches; in fact Walker was born in 1867 into slavery.  Life wasn’t peachy for her; she was an orphan by the time she was 7.

Madam Walker was married at the age of 14 to her 1st husband and when her little girl was 2 years old. Her husband die and Walker became a 20 years old widow. Walker raised her daughter Lelia by herself for 7 years before she would marry her 2nd husband. Her 2nd marriage lasted 9 years.

At the time Madam Walker was losing her hair and in her experiment with homemade remedies came her fortune. She created her product line and in 1905 Walker was selling her products door to door and giving scalp treatments. And it is during her time in selling door to door that she met her 3rd husband Mr. Walker. However, that marriage did not last more then 6 years. Mr. Walker was the last man Madam Walker marries.

14 years into the business Madam Walker had expanded her company internationally to Jamaica, Cuba, Costa Rica, Panama and Haiti. Walker employed 3000 people in her factory and has over 20,000 agents in her enterprise.

Madam Walker was one of only 15 women inducted into the National Business Hall of Fame at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry; she recently was listed among Business Week’s top thirty American entrepreneurs of all time.

“I am a woman who came from the cotton fields of the South. From there I was promoted to the washtub. From there I was promoted to the cook kitchen. And from there I promoted myself into the business of manufacturing hair goods and preparations. I have built my own factory on my own ground” - Madam Walker

So, if a woman whom was born into slavery, an orphan at 7, a widow and a single mom at 20, 2 failed marriages… got her started at selling door to door hair product in 1900’s can made it to be a millionaire. Wouldn’t you agree that there is hope for everyone?

Few weeks ago I spoke with a group about what was the best thing they ever done?

Here are some of the answers:

Becky in the group said: “The best thing I ever done was one day I woke up and I was so sick of being fat and unhappy. I walked into the local gym and hired a trainer. The first week I thought I was going to die, and I wanted to quit. But my trainer wouldn’t let me quit and I am so happy about the new me.”

John in the group said: “15 years ago, I was working in this company for 10 years and I kept getting pasted up for promotions. The company later down size and I got lay off, I was scrambling for a new job. Then I ran into my first boss. He was a kind of like a father to me, he was the one who got me started. 2 years after we work together he got a big promotion and he was send over to Japan. We lost touch shortly after he left for Japan. Anyway, my own boss told me he is starting his own company and he wants me to work with him on his start up. I remember thinking to myself – I really need a job with pay checks. But a part of me really wants to work with my old boss again. Well, long story short…I became the VP of our company.”

Jamie shared her story about her ex husband who was abusive. Jamie stayed with him for years thinking that it was good for the kids. Then one day she saw the looks in her daughter’s eyes, during a fight between her and her husband. Jamie left home with the kids with no place to go, Jamie and the kids spend their first night at a shelter. That was 14 years ago, and today one of her daughter is happily married and the other one is engaged to be marry in June.

More and more stories came out, and one thing that is consistence in every story was that each one of them had the courage to take action to make a change in their lives. None of them knew how it would turn out. Of course being who I am and how I view things, I would say that each one of them took Imperfect Action!

What is the best thing you ever done?

A baby was born without vision, his arms and legs can never be straighten. This child will never be able to walk.

As this child grows to be 9 months old, he begins to play the piano. At the age of 2 this little boy would take request for songs.  This child is Patrick Henry Hughes.

Patrick Henry Hughes is an inspiration to us all. His story reminds us that none of us have anything to complain about.

When Patrick’s parents discovered his amazing gift in music, his father John said, “Ok, we are not going to playing baseball, but we are going to play music together. Let’s see how far we can run with this!”

By the time Patrick got to the University of Louisville, the band director told Patrick that he wants Patrick to play in the School Marching Band. Patrick said, “How am I suppose to MARCH?” His father John said, “If the Band Director is passionate about it, and Patrick wants to do, by golly I Will Give It My All…” So that was it, they decided that Patrick would play and John would push Patrick’s wheel chair. The father and son team became a part of the Louisville Marching Banding.

Patrick said, “God made me blind and unable to walk, BIG DEAL! He gave me the ability in the music gifts that I have, and great opportune to meet new people.” When people ask Patrick about his disability, Patrick would say, “Not Disability, More Ability!” Each one of us have the Ability, Opportune and Potenital inside us. All we have to do is to put it into action.

Today, Patrick Henry Hughes has his own music CD and his Book title “I Am Potential”. He also travels around the country to perform and give Keynote speeches.

Alltop - created by Guy Kawasaki is a digital magazine rack and it is an excellent site for information search and it works even better than Google in a lot of ways. For example: It you put a search on Google for inspiration you will get 102,000,000 sites. That is just too much information for most people. On the other hand, if you go to Alltop and search for inspiration you will see 34 high quality sites under inspiration. And I am proud to say that this blog Imperfect Action is one of 34 sites.

As you can tell being listed on Alltop is quite an honor. And to think just 4 months ago, I was viciously attacked by a PHD. She attacked me on my inability to write, my grammar and spelling etc. Honestly that did hurt and she did stop me from writing my blog, for about 5 seconds. Then I think to myself, I represent the “everyday people”. The ones that might not have: the perfect grammar, spelling or the perfect life… And I cannot let people like her stop us. The world is full of these un enlighten individuals. They work for a Monster call “Perfectionism” Their job is to stop us the “every day people.”

I decided that Ms. PHD can scrutinize me all she wants, but I am still going to continue to write. Because I know this is the only way I will get better, is to keep writing. I have to say I am so glad that I kept writing and I am getting better and better at it. And today I am listed on Alltop along side with all the other great bloggers!

Thank you, Alltop for believing in me.

Ever since I did my blog post for Today is Human Rights Day, I discovered that I really wish to make a difference for young girls in China. I was speaking to someone about this just the other day, and she said, “Yeah, when I was your age I wish to help girls in Thailand – my country, but then I came to realized that there are just too many girls in Thailand and I cannot make a difference…”

So I told her the following story:

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “It made a difference for that one.”

From the book of “The start thrower” By Loren Eiseley.

I believe that I can start to make a difference for one girl at a time!  Everyone can make a difference to help one person at a time.
