Do you say Yes all the time? Even when you wish you could say No? Do you give, give, give your time and energy to others no matter whether you are overburdened or not? Do you bristle inside when a certain person asks you for a favor but do it anyway? If you answer Yes to any of these questions, you may be suffering from willpower diabetes.

You are being sweet to everyone but yourself, and you are suffering. You need to be careful or you could end up in a diabetic coma. You will be walking around nodding and smiling, saying yes and being sweet to everyone but eventually you will not even recognize yourself. When you wake up from this coma, you will say, like the famous Talking Heads song, “This is not my life, how did I get here?”

Saying Yes all the time shows a lack of will because saying No takes a lot of strength and willpower. You will recognize this when you give No a try. The people who are used to you saying Yes will be quite put off. They will try all sorts of methods to get you to change. Be prepared.

In the spirit of GlowTox, here is your injection for willpower diabetes. Your insulin for the times you are going overboard for others on the sweet scale. You are allowed to say No. You are allowed to put yourself first, because if you do not take care of yourself, then everyone who depends upon you will suffer.

When you put yourself first, you will be making a positive energy change in your life. Others may not like that. To give you strength, realize that whatever words they use, they are really saying, “Change Back!” Do you really want to go back?

I recently read a very interesting blog by Paulina Porizkova, a supermodel, which is a delicious example of the pitfalls of buying into the culture of beauty.

It is titled The Revenge of Old Age and can be found on www.wowowow.com. In the blog, she laments somewhat sarcastically about the loss of her looks and how it has affected her life. She explains how at the ripe old age of 36 she became hyperconscious of my looks… and began the battle of acceptance, something I have to do now almost every time I face a mirror.

Like many of us with average looks, my own "battle of acceptance" began much earlier than 36. More like 9 or 10, when girls begin to notice the differences among us-Who has the beautiful hair, or skin, or clothes. Like many of us, I struggled with these issues for much of my life, comparing myself to the magazine and Hollywood standards of beauty. It wasn't until later in my life that I learned that self-acceptance is not about struggling or hating yourself enough to make a change. It is about love and appreciation.

I no longer struggle with myself in a mirror. I smile and thank my body for taking me on this journey.

Paulina goes on further to speak about how the loss of her looks has diminished her power: Having been confident with the way my looks affected others, I was used to using them as extra cash. True this worked mostly with the male population, but that little extra I could get out of them- as I begged them not to give poor little me a ticket, or keep that door open just a second longer or try just a little harder to find an empty seat on that plane - I took for granted.

I have never experienced this extra "cash" available to physically beautiful people. I have discovered something even better, something that does not diminish with age but can actually grow stronger with time. It is the manifestation of inner beauty I call GlowTox. The other day I was out running errands, slightly preoccupied with getting everything on my list done, and I remember thinking to myself, "Why is everyone smiling at me?" I checked my shirt to see if I had a dryer sheet hanging out of it or something. And then I remembered, "Oh, it's the GlowTox!" It is becoming such second nature to me that I forgot its power.

So, Paulina, if you tire of that "battle of acceptance", the lasers and creams that you say did not work, and your decreased "cash" with the male sex, you might want to try a cosmic injection for your spirit. It works even for supermodels.

I am Dr. Kim and I have been a Dermatologist for the last 10 years.

I believe a good doctor listens to her patients but a great doctor learns from her patients. Many of my patients just feel overwhelmed and insecure from the constant pummeling by the beauty industry. Many women are convinced their outer beauty is their most valuable asset! I have to stop and think, “what is wrong with this picture?" I have to look at myself and my profession and ask myself “Am I a part of the problem or a part of the solution?" I choose to be a part of the solution!

Today I am reflecting on the death of a colleague. A senseless wasteful death by suicide. This man was a very talented plastic surgeon, I had referred many of my patients to him. He had helped me out in a pinch more than once. I had trusted him with my own skin cancer. And today I learned he drowned himself in a pond. I grieve for his family and for what the world has lost.

To outsiders, he would have seemed to have it all, technical skills to rebuild breasts after cancer, severed fingers after accidents, ears from too much sun exposure. He had a successful practice, a nice home, a fancy sports car. But that was not enough. It reminds me that we can never
measure someone by what we see on the outside. His spirit was broken and he could not see his way to continue in this world.

I wonder how his life may have turned out differently. I wonder if he was on the wrong path and he did not know
how to get off. I wonder if he reached out to someone and they were too busy to help. I wonder if he would have heard someone if they told him how much his surgery had improved their life. I wonder if God is angry that such talent is wasted.

Today I renew my efforts to tell those around me that appreciate them. I am thankful for my life and my family. I suspend judgment or jealousy of other people based on external measures. I choose to be a part of the solution.

Being a part of the solution has inspired me to start the GlowTox Community.

I am Dr. Kim and I have been a Dermatologist for the last 10 years.

I believe a good doctor listens to her patients but a great doctor
learns from her patients. Many of my patients just feel overwhelmed
and insecure from the constant pummeling by the beauty industry.
Many women are convinced their outer beauty is their most valuable asset!

I have to stop and think, "What is wrong with this picture?"
I have to ask myself, "Am I a part of the problem or a part of the solution?"
I choose to be a part of the solution!

I would like to open a discussion about laughter. It turns out I have
thoroughly underestimated the importance of laughter. I have always
been a fairly serious and intellectual person, being raised in a rather
stoic environment and pursuing a fairly serious career, cancer and death
and all that. I believed that my patients would want me to take them
seriously and to pay attention to their problems, so I have always
treated them with my version of respect, which was listening to details
with a soft smile but no jokes and no laughing.

This past year I have been working with spiritual teachers in order to
expand my abilities. Do you know what my first assignment was? Laugh!
Tell jokes! It turns out that God (or Spirit, or whatever word you prefer
to use) Likes to Laugh!! In fact, I am told, some of the strongest healers
in the world have been crazy by most standards. Meaning they knew how to
not take life so seriously.

As you may imagine, the transformation from seriousness to craziness for me
has been a bit of a challenge. At first I really worried that my patients
might not appreciate the change. I started slowly. One day I went into the
room of a man who had a suspicious spot on his scalp. "So, I hear you need
to have your head examined" I said, not sure of what the response would be.
Of course his wife loved that one! She became my instant friend.

This encouraged me to joke more with other patients. I did not get any
complaints. In fact, everyone, including my staff, appreciated the lightened
mood. I can actually go so far as to say light HEARTed-ness, because laughing
with people and joking with them in a fun way has allowed me to open my heart
to them. It has been nothing but a blessing.

Bringing this around to the GlowTox approach, I call a lack of laughter, or
any type of lack of enjoyment of life, Hypoxia of Spirit. Hypoxia is low oxygen,
and so I am comparing laughter to oxygen. Actually if you laugh a lot it changes
your breathing and you can get more oxygen to your brain and other tissues.

Sounds like a good thing, right? You bet it is. And as you probably already know,
laughter raises your energy and your vibration. So the next time you are having
a hard problem, and you think you need to work at it and get all serious about it,
just think about Spirit Hypoxia and how to cure it. Crack a joke. Make a funny face.
Dance. Just Laugh!!

Being a part of the solution has inspired me to start the GlowTox Community.

I choose to be a part of the solution!

Today's discussion is about guilt. If we believe that lack of forgiveness
is a scab on the spirit, then guilt is an ulcer. An open gaping hole,
allowing energy to leak out and giving negativity a pathway to get in.
Guilt and forgiveness are entwined because guilt basically means not
forgiving yourself.

As women in this society we carry around abnormally large amounts of guilt.
Some of us find it relatively easy to forgive others, but we are so hard
on ourselves that we cannot internalize that forgiveness.

I was with a group of women recently who were talking about how in years
past we were told to let our children cry themselves to sleep at night.
These women were feeling guilty for following the advice of their child's
pediatrician, they were wondering what damage they had done to their children,
how it could be repaired years later. To this I say, You were doing the best
you could with the information you had. The same holds true for any situation
in life, you do not own a crystal ball, you can only work with what you have.
As women we need to support our sisters in their decisions, we need to believe
in good intent and not judge.

As a physician, researcher, and mother, I understand how all the information
we are fed leads to guilt. One day we are told to do breast self-exams and
mammograms, the next day we are told it doesn't matter. One day oatmeal helps
cholesterol, the next it doesn't. Often this comes down to statistics and
semantics. But if you are the one in 100,000 that has a rare event or side effect,
what does that statistic mean to you? Nothing.

Guilt is not healthy for our spirit. It wastes our energy and by doing so it
robs us of our ability to grow and create positive change in our lives.

The GlowTox treatment for the ulcer of guilt is a powerful wound dressing called
collagenase. This substance dissolves the dead part around a wound, so in this
case we will use it to dissolve our guilt. We will apply this dressing like a warm
blanket whenever we feel guilt. Nothing will be left but a nice clean healed surface.
The great thing about knowing this treatment is that it can be used in any situation,
whether you tend to open up your own ulcer of guilt, or whether a friend or family
member begins to pick at those fragile newly-healed wounds you have been working on.
Remember, GlowTox says, forgive everyone. Even yourself.

Being a part of the solution has inspired me to start the GlowTox Community.
In the GlowTox Community we will look beyond the superficial culture that feeds
into the BoTox mindset and we'll look at creating a much more real culture.
