I am Dr. Kim and I have been a Dermatologist for the last 10 years.
I believe a good doctor listens to her patients but a great doctor
learns from her patients. Many of my patients just feel overwhelmed
and insecure from the constant pummeling by the beauty industry.
Many women are convinced their outer beauty is their most valuable asset!
I have to stop and think, "What is wrong with this picture?"
I have to ask myself, "Am I a part of the problem or a part of the solution?"
I choose to be a part of the solution!
I would like to open a discussion about laughter. It turns out I have
thoroughly underestimated the importance of laughter. I have always
been a fairly serious and intellectual person, being raised in a rather
stoic environment and pursuing a fairly serious career, cancer and death
and all that. I believed that my patients would want me to take them
seriously and to pay attention to their problems, so I have always
treated them with my version of respect, which was listening to details
with a soft smile but no jokes and no laughing.
This past year I have been working with spiritual teachers in order to
expand my abilities. Do you know what my first assignment was? Laugh!
Tell jokes! It turns out that God (or Spirit, or whatever word you prefer
to use) Likes to Laugh!! In fact, I am told, some of the strongest healers
in the world have been crazy by most standards. Meaning they knew how to
not take life so seriously.
As you may imagine, the transformation from seriousness to craziness for me
has been a bit of a challenge. At first I really worried that my patients
might not appreciate the change. I started slowly. One day I went into the
room of a man who had a suspicious spot on his scalp. "So, I hear you need
to have your head examined" I said, not sure of what the response would be.
Of course his wife loved that one! She became my instant friend.
This encouraged me to joke more with other patients. I did not get any
complaints. In fact, everyone, including my staff, appreciated the lightened
mood. I can actually go so far as to say light HEARTed-ness, because laughing
with people and joking with them in a fun way has allowed me to open my heart
to them. It has been nothing but a blessing.
Bringing this around to the GlowTox approach, I call a lack of laughter, or
any type of lack of enjoyment of life, Hypoxia of Spirit. Hypoxia is low oxygen,
and so I am comparing laughter to oxygen. Actually if you laugh a lot it changes
your breathing and you can get more oxygen to your brain and other tissues.
Sounds like a good thing, right? You bet it is. And as you probably already know,
laughter raises your energy and your vibration. So the next time you are having
a hard problem, and you think you need to work at it and get all serious about it,
just think about Spirit Hypoxia and how to cure it. Crack a joke. Make a funny face.
Dance. Just Laugh!!
Being a part of the solution has inspired me to start the GlowTox Community.
In the GlowTox Community we will look beyond the superficial culture that feeds
into the BoTox mindset and we'll look at creating a much more real culture.
Let's begin encouraging and supporting each other to build a culture
of empowered women where external beauty is not all that matters.
