I would like to hear about some good stories from the elderly community. What do you wish people knew? I have learned alot from working with the older population. I find them to be smarter and more entertaining than people believe. I would like everyone to realize what they are missing by not talking to and asking questions of the elderly community.

Don't forget that the elder people in your life are celebrating a new years too. This could be a depressing time for them if they are alone. 2011...can you imagine how old you would feel if you were born in 1930. Take time to talk, hug and simply spend a little time with them. Ask them about what they remember the most from their life. You can learn so much from the elders.

I resolve this year not to make a self centered resolution. I am going to work hard to make my business of caring for elders successful. I am no longer just going to talk about how horrible they have it and I am going to do something about it. I am going to work on educating families and the elderly population.

Women are the main care givers of elderly family members. It can be frustrating and lonely. I think education is key to being able to handle everything that needs to be taken care of. Whatever you do, you need to take time to hug the elder. They can suffer from "skin hunger". That is an unfulfilled longing for human contact. Contact receptors are less sensitive with age, so a hug has to be firm to be truly appreciated.
No matter how busy or frustrated you get, a hug will make you both feel better.
