About a few weeks ago I was flicking through channels and I came across this interview that was being done to Mark Gungor which immediately caught my intention basically because I found myself interested on the topic and the very funny way he goes about while explaining about relationships between men and women. Two days.

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry,
two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares,
its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.

We cannot undo a single act we performed;
we cannot erase a single word we said.
Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow
with all its possible adversities, its burdens,
its large promise and its poor performance;
Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.

Tomorrow’s sun will rise,
either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise.
Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow,
for it is yet to be born.

This leaves only one day, Today.
Any person can fight the battle of just one day.
It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities
Yesterday and Tomorrow that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad,
it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us, therefore, Live but one day at a time.


Today I smiled,
and all at once things didn’t look so bad,

Today I shared with someone else,
a bit of hope I had.

Today I sang a little song,
and felt my heart grow light,

And walked a happy little mile,
with not a cloud in sight.

Today I worked with what I had,
and longed for nothing more,

And what had seemed like only weeds,
were flowers at my door.

Today I loved a little more,
and complained a little less,

And in the giving of myself,
I forgot my weariness!!

I came across this information that is included in my study guide that I want to share with you.

Men and women respond to stress differently. Men's responses to stress can be charatcerized by a fight-flight response, whereas women's responses tend to be more of a tend-and-befriend type. Although social learning is certainly a part of this difference, another part relates to different levels of hormones in men and women. In particular, men and women differ in levels of testosterone, oxytocin and estrogen.

Levels of cortisol and epinephrine are similar in males and females during stressful events. However, in males, testosterone levels increase significantly with acute stress, and that increase is associated with greater hostility. Females, on the other hand, produce more oxytocin and estrogen to stress than do males.

These hormones mediate the effects of cortisol and epinephrine, resulting in nurturing and relaxing emotions. Instead of responding aggressively, women respond to stress by enhancing relationships and seeking greater social support. This response has been called tend-and-befriend.

Awhile back my husband’s nephew asked if I could give him a ride back to his home. I answered yes but with a little bit of trepidation since I was not yet familiar with making my way around. Once we reached our destination I had pen and paper ready on hand to map my way back. My nephew smiled at my pen and paper to his amusement. He reassured me that it was so simple for me to get back that I had no need of sketching a map. “Keep it small,” he said. “It really is simple.”

He was right by the way. After following his instructions I did get back and that phrase has stuck with me ever since.

How many times I perceive unfavorable results from a certain challenge only to have it go the other way? How many times I make it seem to be much larger than what it really is? How many times have I felt overwhelmed by a particular task instead of just breaking it down into smaller manageable tasks?

Keep it small. That little phrase helps to remind me when I start to feel overwhelm to do just that. If I get tempted to mentally predict a negative outcome of a challenge I remind myself to keep it small. The majority of the times I go about predicting mentally negative outcomes turns out to never be. What a relief to realize that I am not an oracle! If I were, what a lousy one I would be.

So remember to keep your challenges simple and small. Trust yourself that whatever the situation, you will come out of it. Help yourself to keep your thoughts within the proper perspective and give yourself a mental pat of approval when accomplishing it. You deserve it!

Have you heard the phrase “You do not know what you have until it is gone?” Well , for me that phrase really hit home during the two weeks before, during and after mother’s day when my mom was hospitalized for 19 days. Thank God her health is improving but things could have easily gone the other way.

Take the time to appreciate and give thanks for the people in your life and for the blessings that they bring you as a result of them being a part of yours. Life will still pass us all by regardless what of what we do with it, including procrastination.

Step out of your daily routines(doing the same thing over and over and over again pretty much desensitizes you anyway). Spend time with the ones you love. Remember time can’t be placed on hold so instead of waiting for the right moment, go and make that visit or call.

It will totally be worth it.

Where is the mind located in the brain? We know it exists because we have conversations with ourselves all the time. Brainstorming, rehearsing what words to say to gently breakup with your partner, what I can or can not do, how do I see myself... You get the point, right?

Two high school students named Evelyn and Dianne had the chance of getting their articles published in the school's paper. After their articles were appraised by the editor, he returned the articles with notes recommending on them as to what needed to be improved before considering them for publishing. He had also expressed to them that he liked the articles and that they were very promising, before handing them over.

Dianne took the advice as to what needed correcting as evidence that she was not talented enough to write articles. So she thought to herself, "My Dad is right. I'm no good at this writing stuff." With a heavy heart, she trashed it and headed down to History class.

Not so with Evelyn. She was so focused on her vision of reaching her goal to become a professional writer, that she worked on the article with the recomendations in mind. Her article got published.

You might be thinking, "Well it was Dianne's father's fault for telling her she had no talent."

I had not mentioned before until now that the two girls share the same father. That's right. The two are sisters.

Both were exposed to the same situation at home of being told that they had no talent in the writing department. Yet it was Dianne that took her father's statement to heart and not Evelyn.

Thoughts can make you or break you. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt and follow what you are passionate about. At least you will not ask yourself down the road, what if I had only tried?
