47 yrs old. Married with 2 children, 1 son 19 yrs. and 1 daughter 14. I'm here, because I am lost. No one understands my job and those that do are other dispatchers but not my friends. The one that is my friend is single and no kids. The divorce rate for dispatchers...well not really sure but I took a look at my own dept. and it was 75%. Yes, 75%! There are no books on being married and working as a police dispatcher. There are thousands for officers, but we are left out. So here I am. The one positive thing I can say is I have a beautiful family, but I am hanging on by a thread.
