  • I have a non profit organization called GIVE CHILDREN A CHOICE.
We are a small charity founded in 2002 by my husband Dori Shimoda. He wandered through Southeast Asia and saw so many young girls not going to school, hanging around their poor villages barefoot and caring for their young siblings while their parents were days away in fields working from dusk till dawn. They were carrying buckets of water from the river to wash and drink. They did not have the opportunity to attend school. So in seeing this, he decided to help them elevate some of their suffering. He returned a year later and built a water tank and electricity to 17 homes so they could work in the evenings. Later he decided to build preschools. I met him in 2003 and share his vision for a better place for the children in Laos. I am a nurse and I decided to give the children free immunizations to prevent them from attracting childhood diseases that could easily be preventable, but deadly if not protected against them. 7 years, 30 schools and 20 medical missions later, we have just deliver 11 tonnes of multivitamins to one of their most bombed provinces in Laos. all children ages 3-5 are now receiving multivitamins for one year. THis september 2010 we will be shipping over 22 more tonnes there. The children are chronically malnourished and stunted both mentally and physically because of generations of starvation. This is the mission of Give Children A Choice.
