Diabetes- Are you or your loved one is at risk?

Just came back from Diabetes Walk and Health Fare that I was able to organize with the help of my office staff and my friends.
Novemeber is Diabetes Awarness month.
It is very concerning that there is over 6 million of Americans that walk around not knowing about having this devastating disease.
Obesity rates are ramping up, Diabetes and its sequale- heart disease and stroke, blindness, amputations, kidney failure, premature death...
We are what we eat, or rather what we absorb and our lifestyle can dramaticaly improve quality of our lifes.
Did you know that living in US is a risk for Diabetes?
What do you know about your other risk factors and ways of preventing the disease?
Awarness is the first step.

Hello ewa konca. :) .... How are you?
Thank you for awareness.... and you brought up some very important points on diabetes and I hope that the walk was productive and raised awareness. Diabetes and Hypertension is a concern of mine and is in my family's history. I have not been diagnosed with either however; i do concern myself with recognizing the signs.

Awareness and lifestyle to me plays an important role in prevention and for those who are living with diabetes or hypertension should be aware and know their numbers. I am seeking to lose the weight that i have taken on over the years, by eating healthier more sensible. To also exercise more and do my best to take care of my mind, body and spirit. Also to be aware of the messages that my body is sending me and when doing this i will feel much better and my chances for developing conditions associated with diabetes, hypertension and other diseases might be lessoned.

This brings to my attention about a vision I have... and cause dear to my heart is, for our young adults to have good healthy habits through Lifestyle, Awareness and Prevention for better health. Some of our young adults today could be at a greater risk of developing diabetes and other diseases because of their lifestyle and eating habits, obesity and unhealthy eating habits and a lack of exercise or maybe it can be in their family history.

My thoughts are that we as parents should find a better way to reach our young people when it concerns their health, if the old way is not working. A plan and different approach that would work to their advantage which is always a great cause and with this plan to have the young people be a part of the process to be healthier on a grand scale.

The thing is we have to be a bit more creative and make it a fun process at the same time, letting them know, how important good health is for them. What a better time to start practicing good health, is into kids early years and i find kids to be fascinating small people. It’s much easier to work with kids and get them involved in a healthy way of life early on when they see others leading by example. In this case towards a healthier lifestyle which can be a fun learning experience for children and young adults and still get the message across.

My beloved mom had both type two Diabetes and Hypertension, which worsened and she ultimately lost her battle to it in June of 2010. This is a serious issue and a great cause for you to bring to the forefront of the importance on awareness and to educating ourselves on these and other issues pertaining to health. With the growing cost of health insurance and prescriptions, i think it would be in our best interest, to invest in good health.

To answer your question ewa konca..." Are our loved ones at risk” I would say yes, because there is a history of the two in my family. We cannot prevent certain health conditions from arising however, we can be aware of the signs that our bodies are sending us and to continue to educate ourselves on diabetes and other diseases. Here is to finding a cure for diabetes and other diseases and through awareness and prevention for others to know the signs and to work towards better health.
