Well, I don't know.......the friends I used to pick were just like the family that used to trash me.......I now have a better understanding of why one member of "any" family is designated the peace-keeper, the care-giver and the scapegoat. One who "puts up with" family members that have yet to grow beyond the emotional age of high school! (I am being kind.....usually it's emotionally the age of 12).
Because we're family, we are more apt to allow this juvenile behavior to find the "nitch" in our emotional armor.......the protection and nuturing that we now need to foster within ourselves. Losing my dad, the glue that held our family together, was devastating.
There was no one there no translate the emotional ego trip other members were on. I can only take so much, so I used to resort to "water-blasters," ice cubes down blouses, and other comical one-sided satisfying emotional play-outs. When I was asked why, I would smile and state the hurtful thing. It didn't ttake long, for it to either become "playful," on both sides, or the snide comments to cease from the otherside.
