One case. One woman. One Victory. One OF MANY MORE To Come!

To all of you BraveHearts Sisters who responded to my recent posts and sent either protests or signed petitions to save Sakineh from the awful fate of death by stoning, Thank YOU!

Thank you for being a person who cares enough to take time from your busy lives to help someone who was not able to help herself.

Thank you for having faith that if we stand together against injustice, we can, and will, make a difference.

Thank you for having the faith to toss your pebble into the pond and send your small but important ripple across oceans, to help a woman you don't even know. Only that she needed your help!

You have played a part in something amazing!

We need to keep up pressure on Iran to set Sakineh free, but for right now, this is a great victory for all women. This has also made stoning less likely in the future, as this remark from the Iranian embassy shows. We can hope that this incident will bring about an end to this brutal form of execution all together.

"It is notable that this kind of punishment has rarely been implemented in Iran and various means and remedies must be probed and exhausted to finally come up with such a punishment," the statement said.

BHS was not the only place where these protests were coming from, people around the world stood together against this unjust and brutal execution of Sakineh.
Still, the battle is not over. We need to see Sakineh released from prison and returned to her family.

Sakineh has suffered terribly because of this conviction. Not only did she have the awful sentence of death by stoning looming over her, she has already spent 5 yrs in prison and suffered the punishment of 99 lashes. Now she deserves be finally returned to the waiting arms of her children, who have had to live motherless for the last five years.

All too often, the problems of the world seem overwhelming, and we feel voiceless, helpless.
This time people did not sit by in hopeless silence. This time we raised our collective voices and cried out against injustice.
This time, perhaps with your help, the cry for justice was heard.

THIS TIME RIGHT WON OVER WRONG! THERE IS NO REASON THIS CAN'T HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN, ALL AROUND THE WORLD,
IF WE WORK TOGETHER!

Yes, those who wrote and said we must keep the pressure on are right. Share this story, and the issue of stoning and unfair laws regarding women in so many nations, with friends.
I post the story often on differing boards. I spend a lot of time on Face Book, under my real name, Donna Piland. It is international, and it also has two news streams where members can post links, or statements, about these or other issues. Please feel free to come see my page or contact me there or via my email.
DonnaJPiland2@gmail.com.

Also, there is a very good documentary out now, I saw it on HBO, called "For Neda." This documentary shows what life is really like for women in Iran now, and how many younger women are trying to fight for their freedom. Very informing, very tragic story of a young activist who was killed by the government. Partly because she was so young and beautiful, and this somehow frightens the regime. Go figure.

In any case, you can see that women in that country are very much like women here, wanting more freedom and equality, wanting to be allowed to reach their full potential.
Neda is lost to us, but her fearlessness and honor shine as a light for all women. The world is full of young women like Neda. I for one hear their voices, and will do all I can to make this world better for generations to come.
For Neda.
For Sakineh.
For those yet unborn. I hope you will join me in spreading the word about the brutal practice of stoning and also in helping to assure that Sakineh is not executed in any way, but instead set free ( her "confession" was given under torture ) to return to her family.
In previewing this, I see that there is a mistake in the way my email address is printed. There is no skipped spaces in the address.

I too have signed the petition yesterday. My heart healing and love I send to this woman. It is a horrific crime for a woman to suffer. For many women to have to still suffer and pay the crimes for nothing but just living their life. I say to especially pay the consequences for the crimes and beliefs of men and there own fears. For their need to control a woman's body, soul and to rip her spirit out and blame her for being a woman. Many over time have said oh she is the fall of Eve. My pun is was it really just a bone that they claim they took from Adam, or was it really his spirit and humane self. Then and only then to lead him to believing he is the only one who is great ,or the one deserving of power and decision over a woman's life; a life that is just as precious as he thinks his is. Her son to feel the loss every day and fight for her because's he needs his mother to be there and he has to feel sad and angry and witness her suffering on this endeavor of hypocrisy. Shame on the politicical attitude that degrades her and tells her she has no power. The shame for taking her away from the ones that love her.

I was saddened to hear that the government official is reserving the right to have an Irania woman stoned at his discretion. She is not being stoned,(as yet), but is in prison and being treated like an "animal" because this is their interpretation of a woman "on stay." We must keep the pressure on! It's still happening in Afganistan! Why are the troops not putting pressure on these governments? Terrorism has always been seen as an outside force. We need to also pressure our government to be accountable! Waterboarding is torture, so is being treated like an "animal" while awaiting stoning!
We need to continue to rally our hearts to the Injustice of woman! Even if it's compacency by our own officials!

Let No Man Judge Himself, and then Punish Woman! :_| Sheila

Thanks for your words of encouragement, Beverly, but we have very different views of our Secretary of State.

Personally, I wish that Hillary Clinton were president. I believe that she has the experience, passion, and can do spirit that is a daily inspiration to those of us who look to her as a role model.

While I honestly appreciate your kind comments about me, I don't feel that I begin to compare to Hillary Rodham Clinton. In fact, I am working to organize a "Draft Hillary for President" campaign, for the 2012 elections.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=17124346730
I also agree with this quote of Hillary's.
__________________________
"I also learned that a person was not necessarily bad just because you did not agree with him, and that if you believed in something, you had better be prepared to defend it."
— Hillary Rodham Clinton
__________________________

My defense of Hillary Rodham Clinton. via mostly her own words during her first term as First Lady of the US.
She received a great deal of condemnation for this speech, and some Chinese officials demanded that she "soften" these remarks. Hillary refused. Here is what she had to say.
______________________________

"It is a violation of human rights when babies are denied food, or drowned, or suffocated, or their spines broken, simply because they are born girls.

It is a violation of human rights when women and girls are sold into the slavery of prostitution.

It is a violation of human rights when women are doused with gasoline, set on fire and burned to death because their marriage dowries are deemed too small.

It is a violation of human rights when individual women are raped in their own communities and when thousands of women are subjected to rape as a tactic or prize of war.

It is a violation of human rights when a leading cause of death worldwide among women ages 14 to 44 is the violence they are subjected to in their own homes.

It is a violation of human rights when young girls are brutalized by the painful and degrading practice of genital mutilation.

It is a violation of human rights when women are denied the right to plan their own families, and that includes being forced to have abortions or being sterilized against their will.

If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, it is that human rights are women's rights
-and women's rights are human rights.
Let us not forget that among those rights are the right to speak freely - and the right to be heard. (from 'Women's Rights Are Human Rights' Speech Beijing, China: 5 September 1995)"
— Hillary Rodham Clinton

_____________________________________

Just as she is now limited to doing what the president allows her to do, Hillary Clinton has been limited in what she could accomplish throughout her life in politics. She is just a human being doing all she can. After a women's market was bombed by the Taliban in Turkey, Hillary made some angry remarks regarding this and the lack of action in many of our nation's allies to capture key figures in the Taliban. For her efforts, she received countless death threats. As usual, she shrugged them off and kept up the pressure, using our nation's financial aide as incentive to help us in our battle to end the Taliban's terrorist attacks.

As is all too often the case, her efforts are not covered much by the media, but nonetheless, polls now show that she is the most respected and "approved of" member of President Obama's administration. As a woman in what has traditionally been a man's sphere, Hillary Clinton has had to walk a razor's edge to remain not only viable, but become increasingly well liked and respected. I have nothing but respect for Hillary Clinton.

Here is what she had to say to the Brazillian Foreign Minister as Sec. of State.
_________________________________
Remarks of Sec. of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, 2010

"It should be our goal that every child born in the Americas, or anywhere in the world, for that matter, has the opportunity to live up to his or her full God-given potential.

Now, this goal would be impossible, however, if half the population is left behind. So our memorandum of understanding on women and girls will spur greater cooperation on eliminating violence against women, combating the trafficking of women and children, increasing the participation of women in decision making, improving equality and equal pay in the workplace, and creating new opportunities for women everywhere. This is not only the right thing to do, but Brazil and the United States agree it is the smart thing to do. Investing in the potential of women and girls is one of the surest ways to achieve economic progress, political stability, and greater prosperity."

Remarks With Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Brasilia, Brazil
March 3, 2010

When you consider what this woman has managed to accomplish, compared to, well, who? First "First Lady" to run for, and win a seat in the Senate. First former "First Lady" woman to run for president of the United States. First woman to win a single state in any presidential primary, and then she went on to win state after state.

_____________________________
"We need to understand that there is no formula for how women should lead their lives. that is why we must respect the choices that each woman makes for herself and her family. Every woman deserves the chance to realize her God-given potential."
— Hillary Rodham Clinton (It Takes a Village)

"In too many instances, the march to globalization has also meant the marginalization of women and girls. And that must change."
— Hillary Rodham Clinton

And this is one quote very near and dear to my heart.

"Too many women
in too many countries
speak the same language,
of silence..."
— Hillary Rodham Clinton (Living History)

Here's to ending that silence, whether we always agree or not.
Again, thanks for your kind words for me. I really do enjoy a compliment now and again.

Ulyssa, this is wonderful news

Bringing awareness to this crimes, a show of strength, in these petitions to public officials, is the reminder that the world is watching .....

I did note that it was the British that spoke out on this atrocity

Our Secretary of State seems disinterested in anything other than herself.

I am not sure what she has done, in her two years in office

Our government seems to be interested only in matters that will profit the government.

They are only concerned with getting money, exploiting the natural resources of other countries, exploiting the poor for a cheap labor base.

In the absense of good government, it is very good to have ULYSSA, and all the other women she is able to network with.

Well done, ladies :-x
