Hey Roz Congrats and congrats. I am so happy for you and your family. It is such a blessing to bring a child in the world. I wish you and your family all the best. I am a stay at home home with a 2 years old, and I totally support what Dr. Sugar said. I breast feed my daughter for 17 months. When she stopped, I was really sad, but I knew she had to someday. I know I give my daughter the best through breast milk. I encourage every mom, if you are in the position to do so, please do. Plus in this economy, it save a whole lot of money giving your baby FREE MILK LOL to you and your family. Roz, How exciting to welcome Ruby in to this world! A big congratulations to you and your family. The community welcomes Ruby with open arms and on being the youngest member! I have a son in college but the best piece of advice I can offer is, if at all possible, put $5,000 in a interest paying savings account or CD now and Ruby's college will be paid for by the time she is 18. If this is difficult to do in one lump sum think about having a monthly amount that you feel comfortable with automatically deducted from your paycheck. I wish someone had told me this when my son was born so I wouldn't have to come up with $55,000 a year in this economy. Wishing you a lifetime of health and happines with your new bundle of joy. Roz There are so many reasons for breast feeding and I honor you for doing the very best thing you can for Ruby’s health. Here are a couple of reasons why breast-feeding is a great idea 1.)Babies who are breast fed: score higher on cognitive and IQ tests, have lower incidence of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), lower infection rates (less ear infections diarrhea etc.,) lower risk of juvenile diabetes, lower risk of eczema and asthma, lower risk of obesity and less cavities. 2.)Moms who breast feed benefit by having a much quicker recovery after childbirth, decreased bleeding, quicker return to pre-pregnancy weight, lower rates of long term obesity, greater feelings of attachment between mother and child, more confidence and lower incidence of anxiety, and lower rates of osteoporosis later in life Keep up the breast feeding – The American academy of pediatrics and the American academy of family physicians all recommend at least one year of breast feeding. The World Health Organization recommends two years. I sincerely hope that these tips assist. Congratulations again – My love to you, Alex, Baby Ruby, and all of your family!!!! What a truly joyful time in your life - - enjoy it!! Good Night! ELLIE - HAVE A GREAT FLIGHT - Give her a kiss for me Love, Dr. Sugar -- Giving you your dose of Medical Inspiration - Dr. Sugar Singleton, M.D. To your Total Wellness!
