Need Advice For Handling New Wealth
Having just recently inherited mineral interests in the western North Dakota - Bakken Shale area, I am about to begin receiving oil/minerals royalties which will go on for decades.
My biggest concern (& prayer) is managing this new wealth wisely. I would appreciate ANY comments or advice about this...
Thank you!

Wow, congratulations! You may want a financial planner to explain investing and set up savings accounts and such, and maybe even a lawyer. -- Focused on Wellness For Women

THE BEST THING YOU COULD DO IS GET FINANCIALLY EDUCATED,MY BOYFRIEND IS A BIG FAN OF ROBERT KIYOSAKI AND HAS READ ALL OF HIS BOOKS AND IS VERY WEALTHY, I WOULD SUGGEST STARTING WITH "RICH DAD/POOR DAD" WHICH IS THE BOOK HE STARTED WITH AND JOIN AN INVESTMENT GROUP SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE INVESTING IN AND WHY, MY BOYFRIEND HAS CONSTRUCTED A PORTFOLIO OF DIVIDEND PAYING STOCKS FOR ME AND TAKES TIME TO EXPLAIN ALL OF THESE THINGS AND IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING SO I KNOW WHAT TO DO IN CASE WE ARE NO LONGER TOGETHER OR IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO HIM. MANAGING MONEY WAS VERY SCARY TO ME AT FIRST AND I ALWAYS USED TO JUST LET HIM HANDLE IT, NOW I AM CONFIDENT AND WE TALK ABOUT INVESTMENTS AND TRADES ALL THE TIME THE WAY MOST PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MOVIES. NEED ANY MORE ADVICE OR THE INVESTMENTS WE RECOMMEND CALL ME, IT'S FREE!! 503-410-1244

Robin, I just saw your post and thought I'd say hello. I'm a Certified Financial Planner® professional with over 30 years in the industry. I operate on a fee basis so have nothing to sell. I also am one class away from a degree in Metaphysics. I have a very strong spiritual component to the work I do. I wouldn't presume to give you specific advice online as I don't know your entire situation, but thought I'd offer that you may want to sign up for my blog where there is some free information, and more coming soon. I've just set the blog up recently and have a great deal of writing to do to get some of my wisdom out there. I management money for clients on a fee basis and if you're interested in more information I'd be happy to talk to you about that. You can reach me by email or phone, whichever you prefer: jtjohnson@jataj.com or 608-219-0113. I can offer you this -- I would recommend if you hire someone to look for a Certified Financial Planner and someone who works on a fee basis rather than commission. A person like myself who charges fees has less conflicts or interest than someone who sell products. Fee-only planners are regulated differently and at a higher standard -- they are fiduciaries, which means they are legally bound to put your interests before their own. That is not the case with a commissioned salesperson. You'll probably also need a good CPA to best tax manage this money you're getting. If I can be of further help, please don't hesitate to contact me. I always give a free one hour consultation to anyone wanting to learn more about me and my company. I wish you all the best! -- Janet Tyler Johnson, CFP® President JATAJ, the Center for Fulfillment and Prosperity JATAJ Wealth Management, LLC JATAJ Life Planning, LLC Author * Speaker * Teacher * Spiritual Mentor
