Starting a new business

Starting a new business

Hi everyone.

I am starting a new print screening business and am very excited about it. I have never owned my own business before and would appreciate some advise or insight on things to be prepared for. I came to this decision after I was laid off from my job of 8 years. I have always worked for someone else and am tired of that. It's time for me to do something for me. I look forward to hearing from all of you.

Have a great day!

Congratulations on your new venture! How inspiring to re-invent yourself. There is a lot to do for a business, such as making a website, promotions, taxes, employees, etc. You may want to contact a lawyer just to get all the details.

Getting reliable info on taxes and such very important at the beginning. AARP has wonderful free resources for seniors. If you're not quite there yet, check your community college for continuing education classes on starting a business, taxes for business, marketing, etc. Our local college here in Shelby, NC has very inexpensive classes on all those subject, for example.

Hi M.
You business sounds like a great idea. Have you contacted Universities as well? What about local offices? (ever been sick at work or known someone who was?) I don't know enough about your product to know who it is and isn't suited for. Sounds like something all first year college/university kids could use. To get to them, you need to get to their parents, who always worry about their kids when they leave home and are usually a few hundred miles away. They are the ones who would purchase your product for their kids. This I know from first hand experience....I was always worried about my daughter when she became ill while away at Univ. and I lived too far away to help her.

I have another great idea to help market your business and would love to talk to you about it. Please send me an email and give me your name and phone number, and a good time to call you. I live in the MTN zone.

I look forward to speaking with you.

Hello ladies,

I am also in the middle of a career change and starting a new business. When you come from a background of law enforcement and transitioning to Life and Health insurance...it can somehow be somewhat intimidating. However, being new in the business world, I don't really know how to get the word out on the internet and reading all of your posts has been helpful.

Help!!! I need ideas on how to raise start-up financing for my new start-up business. I have been working with the SBDC, did my reseach, market study, found a perfect location with affordable rent only to have trouble securing financing through traditional banks...even with a SBA guarantee.

I need to get creative in raising funds....someone mentioned offering shares at $1,000-$10,000.00 a piece. Does anyone else have any ideas?

The new business is a pet/pet supply business with a new twist....to promote socialization between people and animals and also offer rescue/unwanted dogs and cats for adoption. I think this could be done in a fun, educational atmosphere.

Any ideas? Interested in investing?

The business will be located off a major interstate in an outlet mall in middle Georgia.

I look forward to reading your responses.

Thanks!

I am a huge proponent of anyone starting their own business because it is the fastest path to becoming financially independent. I'm sorry about you losing your job but maybe this was the push that you needed to venture out on your own. I am glad that you made the decision to move forward to work for yourself.

Here's a short checklist for your start-up:
- Business plan for direction of the company
- Marketing strategy
- Team including an attorney, accountant, and business mentor (best if it's in your industry)

Good luck with everything and I know you'll do well.

...and don't forget (if you haven't already) to promote your business' website. Your url/website address needs to be on all your correspondence and business cards.

Good luck!

My business partner and I opened our store in October called Seeds of Wellness llc. The first thing I did was find as many free directories I could find on the internet to advertise the store. I was able to find over 20 free directories which helps bring your business information up on search engines like Google.

I worked for a company that did screen printing on clothes. The owner partnered with schools and local businesses to sell clothing with their names printed on them. We put together a flier showing the clothes that was posted in the schools and the business. We also had a website to show the clothing and for people to purchase online. The website is http://spiritwearmall.com/home.php, so you can see how they set up the website.

Before talking to the schools, come up with a generic design that will fit for any school and print out some samples to show the coaches or PTA. Also find out about sports groups for kids in the area who need uniforms for each team and team wear. If you have anyone that does embroidery in the area, you could talk to them about working together to market each others products.

Marketing is the hard part for us, and we are still learning how do it effectively at a low cost.

Good luck, and please share your successes and failures with us, so we can help each other and become stronger.

Hi Everyone,

In starting a new business it is very difficult to establish the client base and then getting the word out about your products and specials. I have a great way to promote your business and drive customers into your business.

Very inexpensive way to advertise. Most people are not reading their emails anymore they are reading their text messages. It is not a matter of whether you will use mobile media to promote your business it is just a matter of when.

TEXT - millertime to 90210 and let me help you promote your business
